Dallas Willard - Are Reason and Spirituality Compatible?

The question Socrates relentlessly pushed upon his fellow citizens, was “How should we live?” He understood that only the correct deployment of reason and spirituality, in cooperation with each other, could answer that question. They are not only compatible, they are made to work together, and if they don’t human life falls into chaos. Today, of course, historical forces have forced them apart and in opposition to one another. “Spirituality” is a matter of feeling, ‘faith’, and arbitrary decision. And, sure enough, chaos has descended. A deadly opposition of faith and knowledge now reigns.
Socrates famously said that “the unexamined life is not worth living.” Taking this as a starting point, Eric Metaxas thought it would be valuable to create a forum that might encourage busy professionals in thinking about the bigger questions in life. Thus "Socrates In The City: Conversations on the Examined Life" was born. Dallas Willard was honored to be invited to participate in these conversations as a guest lecturer on April 11, 2012.

I wrote my senior thesis with Dallas Willard on "the Good Life". At the time I was not a Christian but seeking answer to how we should live. I experienced God that semester through Dallas - and he subsequently wrote the book, "In search of Guidance" which described some of my experiences. I became a Christian that semester and hope others will find God by simply seeking the truth about the good life. I believe if you honestly ask that question and seek the answer to, "how should we live you" will find God - He has some good suggestions....
Absolutely brilliant. Although Willard passed away ten years ago, his lecture and his response during the Q&A are relevant for today's culture. Listen, ponder, take notes, and digest it slowly. Good food for the mind. Thank you Dallas.
Just an hour ago I was having a conversation with someone about this same point. I asked the Lord to see me to a way of thinking about the topic of the physical and nonphysical and how they interact, and here’s my answer. :)
