From 55:20 to 55:53 is just absolute happiness. From the little laughs and cheers from Penny, to the satisfaction of the well timed jumps, there's just this sheer amount of enjoyment that's so easy to get lost in. This is a moment out of many that make this playthrough of Astro Bot special.
I really like the subtle connections some levels have for their VIP Bots. The ice level in the final galaxy is basically a big reference to each character having iconic ice/snow scenes in their games. - Jodie takes on a mission in an arctic setting - Sam delivers mail across snowy mountains - Connor (and Hank) visit the creator of the droids while it's snowing. Not to mention something I can't really talk about here because of spoilers, but if you know you know.
I realized that each cameo level comes from different consoles in chronological order Ape Escape (PS1) God of War (PS2 despite the fact it was modern GoD) Uncharted (PS3) Loco Roco (PSP) Horizon (PS4)
(I lost the actual timestamp while writing this comment and YT is being super annoying on mobile, so I'm just gonna go with the vague 1:08:00 timestamp) I think, regarding the whole "Astrobot pats itself on the back for celebrating old series that they haven't done much with" point--while I definitely see the article's point, I feel like it treats Astrobot as a product of the executives instead of what I think it is: a love letter to Sony games, by Sony devs who seem to genuinely love and respect their IPs, from the very popular to the super niche. It would have been incredibly easy for this game to be something like Playstation All-Stars or even Nickelodens Brawl (or God forbid, the Funko Pop game); games that might show the devs research and dedication but otherwise feel like they're pointing at certain parts of it and going, "Look! Isn't it cool to see X and Y on the same screen?" Which isn't bad by itself! But what makes Astrobot shine in comparison is its charm. It's a super charming game. You can tell the devs really had a lot of fun working on the gameplay, the level design, picking out game reps and what their interactions would be like. Hell, the fact that some trophies are so specific like Kiryu's and Crash's makes me really happy, because it's clear they wanted to add a little extra something for players that go out of their way for these interactions. Even the big title levels like the Ape Escape and God of War ones, you can see how they add little callbacks and references for players familiar with it. (Honestly the music for the God of War level alone tells me that they had fun creating this game.) Again, I see the articles point but I think it feels disingenuous to the people who went above and beyond for this sort of premise. I genuinely believe that, even if all these IPs had gotten new games in the past like, month or so, the game would still be how it is now: a very charming and fun celebration for all things Sony. This REALLY could have ended up like Funko Fusion... but, it didn't. And I'm really glad for that. I think Astrobot, at its core, is the perfect example of how nostalgia can be utilized to make great things. I'm so proud of the team asobi and I really hope this wins GOTY.
This is a bit off topic, but I also want to argue against the idea that these IPs should be "treated well." In a world where almost everything is a sequel or a reboot, I'm happy and proud of Sony for continually letting their studios create new IPs. They could have forced Sucker Punch to keep churning out Sly Coopers and Infamouses. They could have kept Guerilla Games on the Killzone train forever. Force Naughty Dog to do Jak or Uncharted forever. But instead Sony lets these studios try new ideas and go entirely different directions and we get things like Ghost and Horizon and The Last of Us. Would I like to see these old franchises revived? Yeah of course! But would I rather have a brand new idea from these teams where there's no baggage or expectations? 100 times yes.
What a game. What a playthrough! I'm glad you enjoyed Astro Bot as much as I did, Penny. I recommend going back to Playroom and getting that last special bot (it's the one in Memory Meadow), since 305 is the total number of bots. Well, it'll be 310 when the DLC comes out but I digress. Thanks for playing!
"I really need a solid Horizon playthrough on my channel" she said literally hours before Horizon Remastered was announced. Now say "I really need a solid Ace Attorney playthrough on my channel" :)
At 2:57:05 when I made the pyramid, the Pyramid Head bot actually ended up at the very top and I always thought that was a scripted thing to happen lol.
I adore the mental image of all the bots pulling the limbs off of one particular bot that nobody likes because Astro needed new limbs and he’s like guys please it’s me Ken bot and they’re like fuck you ken bot you never did anything nobody likes you astro bot needs our help. That shit is comedy gold
I know its kinda unrelated but its driving me insane Can someone tell me what the song is actually singing in the lava worlds because I keep hearing something like "I know there's water in your hearth" DONT TAKE MY BODY FLUIDS PLEASE
Definitely not stolen from a comment from that song's YT upload: " I lit a fire in your mind I don't mean to be unkind But can't you see that you are blind? Because my fire's in your mind I lit a fire in your mind I don't mean to be unkind But if you look, then you will find I lit a fire in your mind " Before reading the lyrics it thought it said something along the lines of "fiery homage" I was so goddamn wrong lmao
1:24:41 , Does this mean you think Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will be the most popular game of 2024? Or that you think it's just the best game so far, not that it will win the GOTY award
among gaming publications and studios and just generally people who are extremely likely if not obligated to have access to a PS5 and familiarity with the title, i think it’s a strong contender! you never really know of course, but TGA is a popularity contest in the sense that people can’t recommend a game as being the best they played that year if they had never heard of or played it yknow. rebirth apparently underperformed from a sales/general audience perspective but it received glowing reviews at launch and had a very strong social media/marketing presence. so it definitely made a strong enough impact in an otherwise relatively slow year, imo.
@@SnapCube2 I see, thanks for your response. I did think it would be tough since Rebirth is only one console, but it has happened before. I agree that Infinite Wealth is the the rival due to being available on all platforms, or Tekken 8 since there is barely any competition
>uploads finale part
>playstation announces free DLC same day
Penny you HAVE to play bloodborne
Honestly, Penny needs to do a Playstation franchise marathon. Lots of cool history to pore over.

i'm so happy to see someone as happy to see sackboy as i was
I wouldn't trust Penny with my infant 'cause she would snatch them from my hands, and she'll be like "Go upside down."
the fake credit roll at the end is genuinely such a funny and surreal bit
That locoroco level kind of made me emotional ngl, I did not expect that what a sweet surprise 🥺💕
Lol. Here's me patiently waiting all this time to see you get to the LocoRoco part and the first thing you say is "Is this Patapon?" XD

Totinos used to have a Spicy Pepperoni pizza roll and those were the best. They had Orange Chicken ones a while back and they were the WORST.
[5:40:39 for peak music.]
Seriously, the Thunder Force series has some bangers- especially IV and V.
Bubbling Under is such a cool level. It's kind of redundant to say, since most of the levels in the game are cool.
Oh wow, I didn't see the magnet phase in the final boss! I got the squid. Cool how there's a variety of things to do.
super delightful playthrough!! I love how joyful this game is and how much you resonated w/that ^_^
2:02:50 KAT FOUND MY DAY IS MADE
