My wife will be receiving radiation therapy after mastectomy. She will receive this treatment at a cancer hospital in Thailand. The treatments will be for 6 weeks, 5 days a week. The oncologist mentioned to us the reason some hospitals are able to reduce the amount of treatments is they increase dosage thereby being able to reduce the amount of treatments. With this in mind, the concern would be negatively effecting other tissue such as heart and lung. Is there an official standard whereby this type of treatment reduction is allowed? If so, are there any negative effects from the reduced numbers of treatments versus the full 6 week course?

Although necessary, radiation can cause long term problems like MDS. (Blood/bone marrow cancer)

What about the within 2 years causing bone cancer? Is that not still the case? It was the bone cancer that killed my previous husband when he was 29. Have there been better ways found?
