Prof. Israel Finkelstein is a leading figure in the archaeological and historical research of Ancient Israel. Throughout forty years of field work and study Prof. Finkelstein has managed to change the way archaeology is conducted, and to greatly influence the way the bible is interpreted, and the history of Israel is reconstructed.
Prof. Finkelstein is a professor emeritus at Tel Aviv University and the head of the School of Archaeology and Maritime Cultures at the University of Haifa. Prof. Finkelstein is active in the archaeology of the Levant and is an applicant of archaeological data in reconstructing biblical history. He is also known for applying the exact and life sciences in archaeological and historical reconstruction. Prof. Finkelstein is the current excavator of Megiddo, a key site for the study of the Bronze and Iron Ages in the Levant. Prof. Finkelstein is a member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities and an associé étranger of the French Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres.
Dr. Matthew J. Adams is an archaeologist who specializes in the Near East. He is currently director of the Jezreel Valley Regional Project and a Co-Director of the Megiddo Expedition along with Prof. Finkelstein.
Dr. Adams sat down with Prof. Finkelstein over several sessions to talk about how a lifetime of work has informed the story of Ancient Israel. These conversations became the series The Rise of Ancient Israel with Israel Finkelstein.

The similarity between the plumed head symbol on the Phaistos disk and the Egyptian depiction of the Peleset with plumed head dresses provides support to the Cretan provenance of the Philistines.

Where the sea people came from isn't known, they seem to be many people who made a pact to raid the civilized coasts of Levant from Turkey to Egypt and the Philistines were one of the many tribes who raided the Levant and may be locals who joined the loot. The Jews can only be confused as they stand to gain from discrediting the Philistines. Prof Israel admits the Philistines were known for a long period before the Ramses II's war with them.

Can there be a connection between Sea People and Trojan War, and people running away from destroyed Troy ?

Thank you, I watched his videos, he is saying some very interesting new ideas. But looks like his new ideas will require to understand many history of that area differently that we used to heard and learned.
      Thank you again.

Did the Philistines have a writing system?

The short answer is yes. We recorded an episode with Prof. Meir about the Philistines - he spoke about their writing system.

This is terrific listening. I think all religion is silly, but the Hebrew bible offers great reading when taken within its historical context. Indeed, the Hebrew bible would be more interesting if it were historically honest, with added notes on religious (cult) practices or prescriptions for those who wished to sign-up to them. The insistences of all religions are really about control of the many, by the few. The God Delusion (Richard Dawkins) offers greater insight and life enhancing philosophy than the Hebrew bible. They're not alternatives - it's illuminating to read both.

The Philistines were native cananites who lived alomg the coast of Palestine and were expert traders and sea farers who along with their fellow cananite phonecians settled in and traded with the agean, introducing the cananite lettering system that lead to greek and latin lettering system. They also introduced european goods and animals such as pigs to palestine. The ancient hebrews, were ancient nomadic arabs that invaded canan and mixed with the local philistine and inland cananite populations. Philistine society was by far the most well developed and established with advanced city states and thriving populations. Cananites are all ancient arab netufians that can be traced back to 15000 b.c. There is later influence on these populatiins from various empires that conquered them but to this day these people exist in their homeland and as a large diaspora known as the palestinian people. In fact, the Palestinians are the ancient israelites philistines and cananites, etc. May they be free again on their native land.

Secularism = elected officials and govt servants should not utter any religious bias or opinion. Religion should be funded by the adherents and not from govt coffers (where tax is not collected from only one religion)

Wow- you are describing essentially the Jewish to Israeli experience since 19th century to- the British, like the 'Egyptian's'- pulled out 1948 and the successively Jewish immigrant waves (Aliyah) just kept coming and through time and- $, tech and your own Court-system the inhabitants (Palestinians!) were eclipsed, marginalized and reduced to 'their-area's' today!

You are essentially describing the 'Israel Experience' of today! As The British, like the Egyptians at the end of the Bronze Age moved-out- the Jewish 'waves' of immigration just kept coming, and coming and through time, $, tech. Numbers and your court-system utterly replaced the local population- reducing them to 'their area's'!
