Good video, Phil. Gimli indeed looks larger than 2200 people.
Whenever I hear about Gimli, I'm reminded of the Air Canada flight that made the emergency landing there back in the early eighties. My sister flew on that plane on a flight once, and they let her and her husband take their kids up to see the cockpit. The pilot mentioned that they were flying in the plane that had made that landing at Gimli. The Air Canada staff affectionately referred to her as the 'Gimli Glider'.
The Icelandic community in Gimli seems to maintained much of their heritage and community spirit. There's a similar, but smaller, Icelandic community in Markerville near Red Deer.

Highways & Byways I'm shocked he didn't Air Canada flight 143 from Montréal to Edmonton via Ottawa that ran out of fuel over Manitoba on July 23, 1983 and glided to an emergency landing at a former RCAFB that was turned into a racetrack at the time. The incident aircraft was a Boeing 767-233 registry number C-GAUN. The main reason the plane ran out of fuel was because the flight crew thought the ground crew was using kilograms when they reported the amount of fuel they put in the tanks when in fact they used pounds. It didn't help that the fuel load information system (i.e. the gas tank gauge) wasn't working.

There are a lot of surrounding cottages the town services plus thousands of tourists from Winnipeg come up all summer. Although the town amalgamated with the municipality a little while ago.

Thanks for visiting. It's the heart of Winter right now, so unfortunately it's not so warm in Gimli around this time of year. Believe it or not, that entire lake completely Freezes over (Lake Winnipeg).

Thank you very much for the tour of Gimli. I've covered every inch of the town on foot, but I haven't been back there since leaving MB three years ago. I was surprised that the red flags on the 50 km/h speed limit signs through Sandy Hook had been taken down. Unless it's since changed, the reduced speed limit is seasonal and the flags have always been in place in years past to alert drivers to it.

I wasn't even aware of the speed change through there.

Great video, Phil! I really like the added extras (or Easter eggs, as my son calls them) that you include in your videos.

Thanks! I think I'll eventually put some kind of competitions up for people that figure out the little easter eggs.

it's a nice place to head up to every now and then when you want to relax on the beach. Just a simple 1 hour drive north of Winnipeg.

Remember, for touristy places, such as a BIG lake a relatively short drive away from a major city, most of the real estate you see is quite likely seasonal and/or second houses. Local population numbers are HIGHLY misguided, especially well into the summertime!
There's a few (manmade) lakes in Southern/Central Missouri with beyond plentiful development. Despite there being significantly better access via 4 lane divided highways (NO traffic lights, but still a VERY far cry from interstate standard), I'm willing to bet that traffic, much less road safety in general all goes to hell thanks to the tourists in the summertime...
