Kat, so I caught my first jumping spider last night. It was on my pillow. I've never seen such a big jumping spider and am having trouble identifying it. Can someone help me please.

One of my daughters had arachnophobia really bad but me and my other daughter love jumping spiders so after getting 3 of them my daughter with arachnophobia actually holds our spiders, I literally never thought I would see the day! Lol they really are amazing spiders. Very sweet and calm and adorable! I love my spiders!!!❤️
I've always been scared of spiders but loved snakes. After finding out how awesome jumping spiders are I picked one up "in the wild" at my niece's soccer game and instantly fell in love with these awesome little guys. They're so intelligent and I look forward to having one to care for of my own one day soon.
You are soooo brave !!! I hate spiders too but also love snakes. I have a snake 🐍 . There's was a jumping spider in my car and I tried to Kill it. I don't know where it went. My husband thinks they are adorable. I don't know how I'm able to watch this. My hearts in my throat.

I found a wild tyrrelli a few days ago, she took to me so fast and enjoys jumping between my fingers. Always love the orange with white and black strips looks like a kitten to me 😂

I wrote a very long comment that had a few links, but I it keeps getting deleted. Anyways, the ones labelled as Phidippus borealis are Phidippus johnsoni, I have had to speak to multiple about this who have been receiving these “borealis”, apparently they are just collected somewhere in Montana.
The boreais labelled as “grey” is a Phidippus purpuratus, they are similar to Phidippus borealis, but more closely related to Phidippus ardens and texanus.
I personally keep and breed Phidippus borealis, and no, I have never seen any that look like this.
I just played with one I found this morning. She was so beautiful and curious. She walked right up to me, so we hung out for a bit. If I notice they are hungry, I always help them out 😊

Kat, have you seen or kept any Habronattus jumpers? I have seen pics of several recently and they often have darker coloring in tiny patches near their eyes that make them look like they are doing little puppy dog eyes--I don't know, it's just the cutest thing, and I feel like you need a couple 😊

So cute I decided to get a jumping spider it was a baby and it’s start eating very well until my three year old cousin and opened the lid of the terrarium and it escaped so now I’m sad and I hope I get a new one and by the way you’re jumping spiders are so cute😅❤

As an elegant arachnophobic, you definitely convinced me to get a jumping spider.
I said "elegant" cause I never killed a spider.
I am that guy who engineers a whole situation in which no spider will be killed, even when confronted to a huge beast.
So, you and others already convinced me to get a jumping spider.
Or rather two. Cause I really think such a clever and curious animal feels better when it has interaction with a sibling.
And I am aware that their lifespan will cause pain in a sweet heart like mine.
My main and only fear is that it'd jump and disappear in the charming mayhem my flat is.
Now I recommend you a good book.

Those jumping spiders are adorable! I've been thinking about trying to catch one around here, but haven't seen any. I did get my first tarantula, a G. pulchra, yesterday, though! It is currently occupying a repurposed food container until its Tarantula Cribs enclosure shows up today. It's only a 1.5" sling, so not sure if it's male or female yet. For a name I've decided to go with Frey, and if it turns out to be female, I'll just add an 'a' at the end to make it Freya. Thanks for the inspiration to get a tarantula!

Phiddipus borealis are really cool. I live in BC i see them all the time. I have even managed to catch a female then a male. The second the male hit the terrarium floor. He was doing the mating rituals. Freaking cool. Also did you know a bigger species lives in a place like Yellowknife Canada. The Phiddipus purpularis Is a chonk.

I found a jumper a few days ago and identified it as Johnsoni. Then after some research I figured it might me Arden’s. Now I’m watching this I’m noticing it could easily be Borealis. Is there a way to find out forsure?

Lots of other ppl are easily influenced, and lots of them eventually neglect half their animals. Absolutely not saying that's you, your a great keeper, but you know how people can be and how quick things can change.

Just had my first experience letting a spider on me! I had one of those fears you know is ridiculous but can't get over. A couple of years ago, i noticed them around my house. They seemed smart and interested in me! So one day, i killed a fly, sorry buddy!, and held it in front of the spider. It took it out of my hand. So i started losing my fear.
I'm outside just before and look down, and there's a little jumping spider just staring at me. So i put my hand down and after some careful thought he jumped. Then he was just jumping all over me. It was so much fun. It didn't want to get off, but i didn't want to kill it. So i hope it's alright. I already told everyone i know. But I wanted to share the story somewhere someone else like me could read and maybe have a cool experience!
I have a p borealis, and i thought they were VERY VERY common then i did researchand realized that they are (kinda) rare.

I'm kinda scared of most spiders. But since my friend Jumpin Jack the bold jumping spider found his way into my apartment i have grown to love him and call me crazy but i am half tempted to let him loose again inside. Yes, i said inside. 😬 I know huh.
Well you see i have grown attached to the awesome little guy and i know that Phidippus Audax's are excellent spider hunters and he would very likely do a great job of eating other spiders inside my place and I'm starting to feel bad for him as i watch him locked up in his enclosure. After i caught him. The first meal i fed him was a false widow that i found under my cupboard and he loved it and wasted no time taking the false widow down.
How does the saying go? If you love someone let them go and if they don't come back it wasn't meant to be and if they do come back, jump and run like hell because the sob will probably end up in my bed. Something like that anyways. I think i got it pretty close.
Does anyone have any thoughts? Should i keep my little buddy inside his vlasic pickle jar mansion or should i let him have the couch as long as he does his spider hunting chores and doesn't touch the tv remote?

Jumping spiders are spiders. There's no logical sense for the craze over them. Let them be and do what they want to do naturally and stop glorifying them as pets.
