- This detailed video will show you exactly WHAT tool I used and HOW I physically removed and replaced ALL EIGHT plug wires and spark plugs on a 5.3L V8 GMC Yukon 2013. No glossing over or skipping the plugs that are hard to remove! You will see EXACTLY which combination of socket, extensions, pliers, or pry bar is needed for each step, and HOW I physically reached in and did it for each plug! Using using only basic hand tools! This same procedure applies to all GM V8 engines from roughly 2000 through 2014 on Silverados, Siennas, Tahoes, Suburbans, Yukons, Denalis, Avalanches and more GM vehicles. No bad words or F-bombs needed!!!

I'm going to start off by saying that I am not a maintenance guru and barely know the basics of a car but you really made it easy to do yourself. I have a 07 Yukon and when the check engine light came on I went straight to here to see what's going on. I changed out only 7 of the 8 spark plugs and all the wires but because #8 is a pain and I'm at a Walmart parking lot I will have to call a mobile mechanic to get that. And I will replace all the ignition coils Saturday.
You really been a great help and I just wanted to say thank you.
@@elijahmatthews2781 hey that is great I hope you get everything figured out and back on the road soon!
The best and real video. All others show the easy driver side. And before and after. Wish he showed details on how to get to #8 from bottom up.
Yeah there was no way to see the plug at all if I filmed that part from the bottom. Glad it helped!
Perseverance pays off. That you for your thoughtful tutorial.
On the #8 plug, after removing the boot, I used a thin wall 6-point 16MM spark plug socket, half-inch drive with a breaker bar. Old timers called those a 'strong arm'. I haven't heard that term in well over 45 years I'd say. Once I got the #8 plug loose, I switched to a lighter 3/8" mini socket handle and spark plug socket. I'd looked over the job well before setting out to do it and had taken the time to gather the tools to do the job. Of course that #8 plug is even pointed _backward_ to the firewall just to add another degree of difficulty.
Great points!
@@ApacheRanch Thank you. Keep up the good work. You helped people with this video of yours.
This is the real deal video. Thank you for posting this. Helps all of us out!! Nice work!
Glad it helped!!
Dude... I love your video! It showed me how to do this without getting highly frustrated. If I didn't see some of your tips and tricks, I certainly would be a mess!
Very glad it helped! I found that most videos did not explain 100% of the potential issues. So I tried to do that. I appreciate your feedback.
Your video saved me about $600. Thanks for helping this single mom stay on the road. That last passenger side plug hurt my feelings. 😅
This video was so helpful, especially trying to figure out #8. Thanks again for taking the time to post it bro!!!!!
Awesome! Yeah, I saw too many other videos out there which only showed the easy steps. I tried to make this as accurate as possible. I appreciate your feedback.
This guy is the grandfather of all goats...ya know why ... It's time to get it done...no bull.... You can tell he knows what he's doing... And been changing spark plugs for many years... That's why you listen to this guy...I'm calling it skill..
Do I need to pay for this endorsement? Many thanks!!
Nope not at all... I can just appreciate a good job when I see it... My dad was an old Chevy Ford Dodge mechanic... You pumped some old memories into my head... Always thought my dad was Superman when it came to auto mechanic work.. I learned everything I know from him...
@@rickbadessa4897 That's great to hear about your dad. I wish you the best!
I have a 2008 GMC Yukon Denali I'm about to do this! And crank censor ! Thanks for the refresher 👍🏽 good one
Glad to help! Good luck!!
Wow, that looks like fun. Great detailed video.
I remember that #8 plug on the 69 Camaro w/ac , it was difficult then too.
Those were the days. Plus you had to know the firing order , now you don’t, that’s progress for you!
I have PTSD from watching you work on that 8th plug. Had me laying across the engine bay begging for mercy!
Git ‘er done!
Great video! Came here for #8 help, 07 Tahoe ppv. Thank you. P71 and ppv for life!!!! 😉 11:14
Glad it helped!!
I just did time today and this video really help me a lot with what tools to use and everything thank you
Glad it helped!!!
Great guide, it litteraly took me several hours to get that number 8 plug and always ruined a cable or 2
Yeah I can totally understand that. It’s such a tight fit that it was hard to even film it! Thanks for your comment!
Great video so clear and very descriptive!
Glad it helped!
Best video on this by far. Thank you.
Awesome! Glad it helped you!!
Easiest way I think, if it's anything like my 09 silversdo, is to take the tires off and then the plastic wheel wells. Then you have total access right in front of your face to each plug without having to stand on a step stool and lean over the fenders. The so called hard #8 is easily done with a Spark plug socket, swivel adapter and long extention. You might have to slightly lift the heat shield that is back there by #8, but the extention with swivel will make it to the plug and come out.
Yeah, good points. And using a vehicle lift would simplify things also. But short of all that, this will get the job done.
Great video work, very helpful, thanks
Question did you have to gap the plugs before install??
No. Plugs these days come gapped. I checked one and they were as expected.
I think if you cut a temporary hole in the passenger foot well, you probably can change it from inside...make sure the hole is big enough.
How long did it take for the driver side and the passenger side sir ?
Driver side - 15 minutes
Passenger side - 30 minutes
❤ after a year how are the sp running still good .or any problem
Good as new! I got over 100,000 miles out of the first set of spark plugs, and plan to get another 100,000 out of these! Thanks for your question.
Did you remove the wheel well cover to change number 8?
No, it's described in the video. I reached it from underneath.
@@ApacheRanchsorry I meant to get your second arm in. I guess I need to find a different angle my wheel well cover doesn’t allow a second arm in. Thanks for the reply
@@OhKee12 if I remember I just had my single arm in there. Using that spark plug socket on my ratchet in the way I described so I could get a small turn each time on it.
@@ApacheRanch yes sir that 3/4” socket saved my bacon. Thanks for the video and response!
Glad it worked out for you! (It’s such a pain!)
How do you get the #8 boot off the spark plug if it broke in 2 pieces
I think I’d be using that spark plug boot tool, but hard to say. Maybe a set of small angled channelocks?
I just did my wifes 07 Tahoe, none of the plug wires came off that easy, even with the long pliers they were a pain in the a$$.
@@ronc4762 yeah they can surely get burnt on there. On all of mine I had to pull really hard and use the tool otherwise they weren’t gonna give it up. Thanks for your comment.
is this possible without swivel attachment ?
I don’t believe so…
But if you do it, let us know!!
@@ApacheRanch lol I’ll be tackling the problem early am I’ll give an update ,hopefully I can shoot a video too
FU GM for #8 engineering...
Passenger side wasn’t that bad especially considering there was no dipstick or fill port. Take the wheel well liner off and the plugs are right in front of you.
The anti-seize lubricant is going to throw off the torque and it won't be accurate.
Yeah, but my torque is based on my arm so I’m not accurate anyhow. lol. But you are right.
@@mac9955 I thought everyone put anti-seize on spark plugs
