I was a firefighter and was there on 9/11 The things we seen there aren't meant for human beings to experience without facing some psychological problems. Yes the real hero's are dead I certainly agree ,the rest of us have to carry on and teach the generations ahead of this tragedy and keep the memories of the victims alive.
We did NOT care for each other. White people cared for each other. Muslims and middle eastern people faced racism and harrassment. My mothers best friend had her hijab ripped off her head and was spit on.

it actually was misunderstood by you guys. what Dr Luft was describing what most other physicians would typically redice them to. he was also describing his stance of seeing them as actual human beings in need of help and wanting to get to know them as human beings. therefore, he started the clinic as well as his project of recording the things they had to say about the tragedy and working at Ground Zero.
Forgive me for just watching this. I had heard about the people that went to ground zero and having health issues all these years later. It is not right they are in debt or can hardly survive b/c of medical bills. Come on people these guys went into a 'war zone' to help others on the worst day of our lives! They could of went home to be with their families but they didn't. They risked their lives to help others & are still risking their lives b/c of the toxic air they inhaled! There's truly something wrong when our first responders retired or not can't get the healthcare they require after saving or recovering people. I know this is late, and you may never see this, but a boy I know of knowingly ran up the steps that day. He was a firefighter and his colleagues said they tried to stop him because they all knew the steps werent stable anymore. He got all of the people down the steps on one floor and out of the towers safely. He collapsed with the stairs that day and didnt make it out. He was a good man

It's now 18 years on. We watched that day from UK in absolute horror. I was a carer in an elderly people's home and the residents thought they were watching a film.. I was so scared, I thought another war had started and we might be next. I cried, like many others here and have never forgotten what happened. The bravery and sacrifice of those first responders was beyond any call of duty. God bless them all.
As an American, one of the enduring memories I have is a group of British military members playing our national anthem in front of Buckingham Palace a few days after that horrific day. It was a brief bright spot in an otherwise horrible time.

PTSD is something you learn to live with. I don’t know how long it takes to learn, because I’m only 8 years into my diagnosis. A smell, a person, a memory or a dream can make you panic and dissociate. Sometimes you don’t even know why, but your scared, you can’t breathe and all you can do is either freeze or get to a safe place so that you can collapse. It helps tremendously to talk about your trauma. The only problem is that few people care to hear it over and over and over and over. If you know someone like this, listen and just tell them you’re going to be there for them. 😕
Pls search help in therapeutic trauma work. There is a lot nowadays. Working with the body it can help you release storaged stress.. that stress response from 9/11

I wasn’t there. I was at home. My son was at school, my husband at work and I was going to work at 1:00pm. I was laying on our bed watching Fox News. I saw the first reports then as it was covered live I saw the 2nd plane coming. I saw it hit the building, saw people screaming, running, crying. I barely left the TV for weeks. Just to go to work, take care of my family and that’s about it. That was almost 18 yrs ago. I’ve seen all of the documentaries. Every year around 9/11 I watch all of the documentaries again. I know the names of some of the people who were there or on the planes. I know their families names. During that horrific time we said we’d never forget. I hate to say this, but people did forget. After the cleanup, after it had all died down people forgot. I never forgot. Neither did my husband, my sister...how could you forget that? God bless you all. You ARE heroes. Don’t ever forget that. Yes, the ones that lost their lives that day were heroes, too, but that doesn’t take anything away from you. God bless you, all that perished that fateful day, and their families. I worked in EMS both with the fire dept and ambulance service for 20 years as a volunteer. I can fully understand and appreciate those who wanted to go help because I myself wanted to go. I did not know how much I could help but I wanted to do something. When you are in a field such as EMS you become a family. Regardless if you are paid or volunteer we are all brothers and sisters. Thank you to all the EMS that helped in this situation. RIP all the innocent lives that were lost.
I’ve never seen the actual picture of people jumping out the buildings... i was 2 years old but i still come back every year in tears listening to the stories
There are some videos you can see when there is paper furniture flying in the air and than bodies jumping out specially out of the second tower. I was in middle school when. This happened. I had nightmares for days. Till this day. Breaks my heart and really breaks me emotionally. That day my teacher screamed in pain cuz her son was on the flight that hit the first tower.
Every year that the date 911 arrives I remember what I was wearing, where I was standing exactly, the scent in the air, and the horrible kick in the stomach, my knees felt weak, when I saw the news on TV knowing people I knew worked in those towers and the floor they were in only they and God know exactly what moment he called them to return home, I remember and pray for them, that they guide and make themselves present for their children. Some of the hardest days of my life.

I was 2 as well, and I do the same thing. I come back each year in September to listen to their stories. I keep them in my mind for not only the month of September, but everyday.
For the first 35 years of my life I didn’t really think about first responders much. Through some challenges I faced in my own life, I ended up starting a Telehealth therapy practice with a couple of partners. That led me to start working with more and more first responders dealing with job-related issues. I’ve even been privileged enough to get help to a handful of people that were there on that fateful day and for the traumatic days/weeks that followed. It’s been the most rewarding experience of my life. This population is so grossly misunderstood and criminally underserved. It’s quite humbling to have your worldview changed at this point in my life, but I’m grateful to these unbelievable people. I plan on spending the rest of my life trying to do what I can to give back to such strong, inspirational people. I hope we, as a society, do better by these people-they deserve it.

It pained me when they discussed their medical issues. Considering what they went through, there should be more support for these people and their loved ones. I can't believe that they've had to not only shoulder their traumas all these years later, but also shoulder their medical bills as well. There needs to be a lifelong lifeline for these people set up so they have their medical concerns addressed without fear of bankruptcy from medical bills.
Is a day I will NEVER FORGET. Even 20 years later the image of that plane hitting is stuck in my head. So so sad. INCREDIBLE bravery of the first responders, 400+ perished. Shame. RIP TO ALL

Watching this during the Covid Pandemic. I will NEVER FORGET! I remember where I was at the time, holding my newborn and watching the terror unfold on TV. I saw the 2nd tower hit and I screamed. I frantically called my husband's cell with no answer. He was a OTR truck driver & I just needed to know he was OK. Thankfully he was and came home several hours later. I remember when this happened thinking that there is no way anyone should be breathing the air in lower Manhattan. All those fluorescent lights, computers, insulation, etc turned into dust along with 100s of floors of concrete. If you just drop 1 fluorescent bulb in your house you're supposed to wear a mask, open the windows, vacuum, use adhesive tale to try to remove all the microscopic residue. Multiply that by thousands. I would still be wary of any environment that might have residual dust or digging under the surface soil in that area. The EPA knew this better than me and should be culpable for leading people to their eventual deaths. How can we ever trust these institutions?
....and the bodies. survivors all covered in what you decribed and the bodies of human remains. it was horrifying. unimaginable. I lived in the west village and i had that dust on my windows, on our streets, on us walking the streets. however the wind blew it brought 9/11 to our front door
I am a U.S. Marine veteran, deployed to Afghanistan in 2009 and 2011. Been shot at, had brothers killed. All that still doesn't compare to the horrors responders had to face on 9/11. They are real heroes.

I was in labor with my first baby and at 11:37 that night I held my son Micah in my arms and cried in confusion that I had been given this amazing beautiful miracle while other mothers would never see their miracles again. I was confused and yet so in love. He turns 19 this year. How has almost 2 decades pass?

I heard many stories of people who still are suffering after 9/11. It never really hit me hard till I got cancer in my lungs, and now know how it feels for many of these wonderful Americans. Early today I mentioned in my FB comment, how we need to pray for, and thank, the people, and their families who are still being effected from 9/11, both physically, and emotionally. Not many others mentioned them. After watching this, I am posting this, in explanation for my comments today. I pray others see how important it is to acknowledge these wonderful Americans. You are always in our hearts!
I understand your reasoning for saying that, but you and I both know that those people are also heros. Just because you didn’t die does not mean you are not a hero. You are too humble.
Never, ever, forget. Never forget how horrible that day was. Never forget who caused it. And most importantly never forget the heroes who died that day.
Going through a traumatic event is terrible. These people were bombarded with traumatic events and images, one after another. I can only imagine how many of the people that went through that ended up addicted to drugs, going insane or commiting suicide. No one should have to go through that. And no matter how they ended up, I highly respect each and every person that decided to help.
It’s 9/2019, I remember that day and where I was. In all these years I’ve never heard it put in this way: the heroes are the ones who didn’t make it... I will never forget.
I felt so helpless that day. After the second tower fell we closed shop to go and donate blood. I went to three hospitals (by foot since the subways weren't running any longer) but at that point they had all run out of forms and could not take anymore volunteers. In the evening we went to the Westside Highway to cheer on and applaud the first responders driving down in busses at the end of their shift. Some of them waved at us and blew kisses, others slumped down in their seats and started crying at the sight of us. the next day we donated socks and T-shirts and i called business partners like Phillip Morris to ask for donations like cigarettes etc. We went to the Westside Highway for the next month every evening cheering on the first responders, it was all we could do. Volunteering was next to impossible cause so many people wanted to help, there was just no spot to get (like handing out coffee or cleaning the first responders quarters), you had to know someone to get something. I went to the site for the next 5 years on 9/11 and every year less people came. Hard to believe it's been 21 years, it feels like yesterday. Bless these men and women!
i was there for the same thing in the north tower. I hope that we will never forget this day but not get so attached to the day and my cousin worked in the south tower and died so when it comes to that time i have a roller coaster of emotions rushing through my body.
I was living in NYC on that day...like many others I went to Union Square in the proceeding days and weeks after. We talked, hugged strangers , cried, put up posters of those who were still missing in hopes they might be found. I remember a cop stopping me as I crossed the street ro go to Union Square..he must have recognised me from going down there quite a lot ..he said nothing he just put his arms round me and hugged me..a lady down there gave me a yahrzeit candle, we both held it and stood at the Square with tears in our eyes..I still have the remains of that candle to this day. NYC will be forever in my heart..that day will never leave me. God bless New York City and everyone who lived through that terrible day 🙏 You will be in my heart forever ♥
Those who prays, let's pray daily for all the victims of 9/11, for all the first responders who died aftermath and those who are ill and struggle. They sacrificed their lives, health for those in trouble. We have to always remember that sacrifice and pray for them. They do need it.
I don’t remember seeing this when it first aired. That is one of the saddest things I’ve seen in a long time. I found myself sobbing a couple of times while watching that. We all carry some sort of baggage with as we move through life... these people have a very heavy load.
20 years later, and I remember 9/11 like yesterday, as most Americans do. Life has never been the same. Our children will never know of life before. The worst day of our lives brought out the absolute best in Americans. I cannot even address the anger and bitterness I feel toward what is happening today in this country, and in the Middle East. 9/11 victims, their families, US troops and vets, deserve so much better. This still breaks my heart. I live in OKC & I remember the day before which is my b-day, it rained real hard later that evening. So hard that after it had an light orange-ish covered skies. I was in spanish class in middle school when it happened & we stopped to watch it. From class period to the next that's all we did.

Thank you to EVERY single one of the people that did all they could! First responders, doctors, nurses, civilians, those that saved the plane from crashing into pentagon. Every single person. You’re all our heros! Our country NEEDS to do more for these people, these heros!

It's now 18 years on. We watched that day from UK in absolute horror. I was a carer in an elderly people's home and the residents thought they were watching a film.. I was so scared, I thought another war had started and we might be next. I cried, like many others here and have never forgotten what happened. The bravery and sacrifice of those first responders was beyond any call of duty. God bless them all.
As an American, one of the enduring memories I have is a group of British military members playing our national anthem in front of Buckingham Palace a few days after that horrific day. It was a brief bright spot in an otherwise horrible time.
Just crazy how all that smoke and toxic dust can do all those 1st responders are true heros much respect to them 🇺🇸

@AmyBEgirl Not all have forgotten. I remember the day exactly. However I am guilty of not remembering the 2nd set of heroes all of our first responders who are still living.

PTSD is something you learn to live with. I don’t know how long it takes to learn, because I’m only 8 years into my diagnosis. A smell, a person, a memory or a dream can make you panic and dissociate. Sometimes you don’t even know why, but your scared, you can’t breathe and all you can do is either freeze or get to a safe place so that you can collapse. It helps tremendously to talk about your trauma. The only problem is that few people care to hear it over and over and over and over. If you know someone like this, listen and just tell them you’re going to be there for them. 😕

Pls search help in therapeutic trauma work. There is a lot nowadays. Working with the body it can help you release storaged stress.. that stress response from 9/11

I wasn’t there. I was at home. My son was at school, my husband at work and I was going to work at 1:00pm. I was laying on our bed watching Fox News. I saw the first reports then as it was covered live I saw the 2nd plane coming. I saw it hit the building, saw people screaming, running, crying. I barely left the TV for weeks. Just to go to work, take care of my family and that’s about it. That was almost 18 yrs ago. I’ve seen all of the documentaries. Every year around 9/11 I watch all of the documentaries again. I know the names of some of the people who were there or on the planes. I know their families names. During that horrific time we said we’d never forget. I hate to say this, but people did forget. After the cleanup, after it had all died down people forgot. I never forgot. Neither did my husband, my sister...how could you forget that?

I worked in EMS both with the fire dept and ambulance service for 20 years as a volunteer. I can fully understand and appreciate those who wanted to go help because I myself wanted to go. I did not know how much I could help but I wanted to do something. When you are in a field such as EMS you become a family. Regardless if you are paid or volunteer we are all brothers and sisters. Thank you to all the EMS that helped in this situation. RIP all the innocent lives that were lost.
I’ve never seen the actual picture of people jumping out the buildings... i was 2 years old but i still come back every year in tears listening to the stories
There are some videos you can see when there is paper furniture flying in the air and than bodies jumping out specially out of the second tower. I was in middle school when. This happened. I had nightmares for days. Till this day. Breaks my heart and really breaks me emotionally. That day my teacher screamed in pain cuz her son was on the flight that hit the first tower.
Every year that the date 911 arrives I remember what I was wearing, where I was standing exactly, the scent in the air, and the horrible kick in the stomach, my knees felt weak, when I saw the news on TV knowing people I knew worked in those towers and the floor they were in only they and God know exactly what moment he called them to return home, I remember and pray for them, that they guide and make themselves present for their children. Some of the hardest days of my life.

I was 2 as well, and I do the same thing. I come back each year in September to listen to their stories. I keep them in my mind for not only the month of September, but everyday.

For the first 35 years of my life I didn’t really think about first responders much. Through some challenges I faced in my own life, I ended up starting a Telehealth therapy practice with a couple of partners. That led me to start working with more and more first responders dealing with job-related issues. I’ve even been privileged enough to get help to a handful of people that were there on that fateful day and for the traumatic days/weeks that followed. It’s been the most rewarding experience of my life. This population is so grossly misunderstood and criminally underserved. It’s quite humbling to have your worldview changed at this point in my life, but I’m grateful to these unbelievable people. I plan on spending the rest of my life trying to do what I can to give back to such strong, inspirational people. I hope we, as a society, do better by these people-they deserve it.

That Day Is Tomorrow. Can't Believe It's Been 17 Years Since That Tuesday In 2001
It pained me when they discussed their medical issues. Considering what they went through, there should be more support for these people and their loved ones. I can't believe that they've had to not only shoulder their traumas all these years later, but also shoulder their medical bills as well. There needs to be a lifelong lifeline for these people set up so they have their medical concerns addressed without fear of bankruptcy from medical bills.
Is a day I will NEVER FORGET. Even 20 years later the image of that plane hitting is stuck in my head. So so sad. INCREDIBLE bravery of the first responders, 400+ perished. Shame. RIP TO ALL

Watching this during the Covid Pandemic. I will NEVER FORGET! I remember where I was at the time, holding my newborn and watching the terror unfold on TV. I saw the 2nd tower hit and I screamed. I frantically called my husband's cell with no answer. He was a OTR truck driver & I just needed to know he was OK. Thankfully he was and came home several hours later. This needs to be seen and I find it odd these people carry such a burden. I feel they should be honored and cherished
I remember when this happened thinking that there is no way anyone should be breathing the air in lower Manhattan. All those fluorescent lights, computers, insulation, etc turned into dust along with 100s of floors of concrete. If you just drop 1 fluorescent bulb in your house you're supposed to wear a mask, open the windows, vacuum, use adhesive tale to try to remove all the microscopic residue. Multiply that by thousands. I would still be wary of any environment that might have residual dust or digging under the surface soil in that area. The EPA knew this better than me and should be culpable for leading people to their eventual deaths. How can we ever trust these institutions?

I am a U.S. Marine veteran, deployed to Afghanistan in 2009 and 2011. Been shot at, had brothers killed. All that still doesn't compare to the horrors responders had to face on 9/11. They are real heroes.

Thank you for recording these stories. There are others of us who were changed by that day much differently than others. I was in labor with my first baby and at 11:37 that night I held my son Micah in my arms and cried in confusion that I had been given this amazing beautiful miracle while other mothers would never see their miracles again. I was confused and yet so in love. He turns 19 this year. How has almost 2 decades pass?

I heard many stories of people who still are suffering after 9/11. It never really hit me hard till I got cancer in my lungs, and now know how it feels for many of these wonderful Americans. Early today I mentioned in my FB comment, how we need to pray for, and thank, the people, and their families who are still being effected from 9/11, both physically, and emotionally. Not many others mentioned them. After watching this, I am posting this, in explanation for my comments today. I pray others see how important it is to acknowledge these wonderful Americans. You are always in our hearts!
I understand your reasoning for saying that, but you and I both know that those people are also heros. Just because you didn’t die does not mean you are not a hero. You are too humble.
Listening to the stories of those first responders is something that I can’t even imagine. So sad.
Never, ever, forget.
Never forget how horrible that day was.
Never forget who caused it.
And most importantly never forget the heroes who died that day.
Going through a traumatic event is terrible. These people were bombarded with traumatic events and images, one after another. I can only imagine how many of the people that went through that ended up addicted to drugs, going insane or commiting suicide. No one should have to go through that. And no matter how they ended up, I highly respect each and every person that decided to help.

I remember rushing to our nearby blood center and waited in line for hours, to give blood, only to find out no one had survived 😟

It’s 9/2019, I remember that day and where I was. In all these years I’ve never heard it put in this way: the heroes are the ones who didn’t make it... I will never forget.
I felt so helpless that day. After the second tower fell we closed shop to go and donate blood. I went to three hospitals (by foot since the subways weren't running any longer) but at that point they had all run out of forms and could not take anymore volunteers. In the evening we went to the Westside Highway to cheer on and applaud the first responders driving down in busses at the end of their shift. Some of them waved at us and blew kisses, others slumped down in their seats and started crying at the sight of us. the next day we donated socks and T-shirts and i called business partners like Phillip Morris to ask for donations like cigarettes etc. We went to the Westside Highway for the next month every evening cheering on the first responders, it was all we could do. Volunteering was next to impossible cause so many people wanted to help, there was just no spot to get (like handing out coffee or cleaning the first responders quarters), you had to know someone to get something. I went to the site for the next 5 years on 9/11 and every year less people came. Hard to believe it's been 21 years, it feels like yesterday. Bless these men and women!
i was there for the same thing in the north tower. I hope that we will never forget this day but not get so attached to the day and my cousin worked in the south tower and died so when it comes to that time i have a roller coaster of emotions rushing through my body.

I was living in NYC on that day...like many others I went to Union Square in the proceeding days and weeks after. We talked, hugged strangers , cried, put up posters of those who were still missing in hopes they might be found. I remember a cop stopping me as I crossed the street ro go to Union Square..he must have recognised me from going down there quite a lot ..he said nothing he just put his arms round me and hugged me..a lady down there gave me a yahrzeit candle, we both held it and stood at the Square with tears in our eyes..I still have the remains of that candle to this day. NYC will be forever in my heart..that day will never leave me. God bless New York City and everyone who lived through that terrible day 🙏 You will be in my heart forever ♥

Those who prays, let's pray daily for all the victims of 9/11, for all the first responders who died aftermath and those who are ill and struggle. They sacrificed their lives, health for those in trouble. We have to always remember that sacrifice and pray for them. They do need it.
I don’t remember seeing this when it first aired. That is one of the saddest things I’ve seen in a long time. I found myself sobbing a couple of times while watching that. We all carry some sort of baggage with as we move through life... these people have a very heavy load.

20 years later, and I remember 9/11 like yesterday, as most Americans do. Life has never been the same. Our children will never know of life before. The worst day of our lives brought out the absolute best in Americans. I cannot even address the anger and bitterness I feel toward what is happening today in this country, and in the Middle East. 9/11 victims, their families, US troops and vets, deserve so much better. They deserve compensation from the enemies who took part, and they deserve COMPLETE justice. We will NEVER forget those we lost, and those left behind to pick up the pieces. 🙏🏻🇺🇲

This still breaks my heart. I live in OKC & I remember the day before which is my b-day, it rained real hard later that evening. So hard that after it had an light orange-ish covered skies. I was in spanish class in middle school when it happened & we stopped to watch it. From class period to the next that's all we did.
