My fav cooking video thus far!! Great tutorial & such precious footage of your elders...thank you for sharing 😊
It's dishes like roti ,doubles and pelau that does make me love TnT more.
You're keeping it alive Reshma , and that's a gift that has been passed on to you, thanks for sharing and keeping the love and tradition alive God bless those hands 🕊
What a beautiful heritage - thank you for sharing this with the world. I’m not trini but fully love and appreciate Trini made buss up shut!!!! So delicious 🙌🏽 🇹🇹 ❤️🙌🏽
Beautiful video..such great memories..teared up a bit👍👍👍
This has to be the best video on paratha Reshmi. I moved from Trinidad at 17 years old but I vividly remember these family occasions. Thank you for sharing this part of your family with us. Job well done!!!
Side note- I love the fact that you kept that strong Trini accent. Don't ever lose it.
Such a well thought out tribute to our history and culture. I didn't want to blink because I didn't want to miss one second of it. Love it Reshmi!
I know this roti as paratha. Indian food is the best in the world! Everybody loves it. My Nani taught my mom to cook South Indian food. I’m from Jamaica 🇯🇲 we have a lot of Indians in Jamaica, Indian arrivals day in Jamaica is May 10 and 176 years. I am living in the states NY. Btw I love watching your cooking, my bestie from Trinidad.
Thank you for sharing. Very informative video Reshmi. I am a roti lover like most. 👍🏽😋😋😋 I love to eat bus-up-shut roti with channa and aloo, with stew chicken.
🙏 that is a video to treasure 😊 thank you for sharing😊😊😊
Oh snap you already did it! I've been taught but always forget. I'll watch this now everytime I need a hand. Your a blessing from God and Goddess.
I watched totally fascinated as your mum made a batch of buss-up shut roti. It's just as therapeutic to watch too, I just love that dabbler action! The enamel cup technique is really good. A fantastic meal to celebrate Indian Arrival Day with. Great memories, great skills! 🇮🇳🇹🇹😋👍🌟
Had to say a special thanks for this recipe! It was a winner! I normally make my paratha with lukewarm water, but man does this make a huge difference. The roti was literally pillow soft! The warm water really makes a difference. Thanks again
*Buss up Shut, is one of the best gift brought to Trinidad.*
Reshmi, I can't believe i am now watching this video you made three (3) years ago. Not only was the tutorial a great one, but the history you shared was necessary and amazing. Continue to share the culture. Many thanks.

Love this! What a great tribute to your Nana, them longtime cooks had real sweet hand. Your paratha looks flaky, silky and soft.
I enjoyed this vlog. Keep up the great work Reshmi ♡
Great video. Love the nostalgia and the narration. This demonstration video is definitely one of, if not the best for paratha. Thank you so much for sharing your family’s memories and the country’s cultural traditions. I’m trying this, this week!
Thank you for the kind words! Happy you enjoyed the video- especially the cultural aspect of it. Happy roti-making!
This looks amazing Reshmi! I want to try this. I love how you added videos of your family in it...it’s a great way to remember family and carry on the family tradition in the love of food. I live in New York too! Yay! 🥰

This is the BEST and educational video on how to make this roti. I am so happy I found this, so easy to follow and comprehend. I appreciate the time that went into making this so easy for us to follow. Great job and thank you.
Awwww love this video so much. It bring back memories of my Nana as well. He used to make roti, doubles, urdi bara, pulourie, sahinas etc etc. I wish we had a camera in those days to flim him. Thankyou for sharing.❤
I love when my hubby makes this it's one of my favorites 💕🇨🇦
It looks so easy
I would definitely try it
Masterpiece. Love the vintage videos. Thanks so much.
Thank you for these priceless videos🙏🏽
Nice video, very appropriate for today's festival.
You made me happy to see the old way and your way of doing this dish. Thanks for sharing it was so interesting 🤔. Love Roti and I’m not even Indian .
Love the tips and authentic traditional techniques. Thank you. On a side note: “Uncle Pitchoil” 🤣 always love to hear the funny origin stories of our old time nicknames for people.
Glad you enjoyed!! Hahaha omg....the names really make it even better. I'm sure there is a funny reasoning behind that name.
Happy Indian arrival day to everyone and your family
I love watching your vlogs
Very Beautiful, and sentimental video. Even though he is no longer with us, his memories live on. Looking forward for you to see your Uncle again.
I totally enjoy this video, love the history you share, and the many amazing cooks in your family, saw where you got your skills, TFS . Working on on paratha roti skills, will be dropping mines very soon.
I enjoyed looking at the pics of your nana making roti. It reminded me of my wedding in 1998. The scene was so similar. Thanks for sharing😊
Happy you enjoyed, Denise! Glad to bring back memories. This was actually for my aunty's wedding :)
I will learn how to make this some day, it's on my bucket list.
Thank you for sharing such a beautiful video & your wonderful memories with us Resh 🤗 Your Nana must be watching proudly over you as you continue his legacy ♥️
My son learnt some history today - he didn’t even speak once during the entire video! You’d make a good teacher 😊. He also wants to help me make some buss up shut later so I’ll see how that goes! I remember back in Trinidad we would have it for prayers served with chataigne, karhi, pumpkin, bhagi, etc. but I mostly preferred just channa & aloo and mango (& curry shrimp when I’m not fasting 😋). It’s quite a rich and heavy food and I remember usually feeling a little sleepy after, but totally satisfied ☺️.
We are very lucky & honoured to belong to this unique heritage. May we never forget our roots and all the hard work and sacrifices our ancestors made to pave the way for us..
Happy Indian Arrival Day 💕 xxxxxxx
You're welcome! Thanks for the kind words.
That's amazing! Happy that your son is interested in making roti. I love it with all those dishes you mentioned.
It's funny you said that- when I asked my husband what roti means to him, he said "sleep aid" lol
So true. I'm doing my best to preserve and continue the traditions in hope that the younger generation will do the same.
Take care and thanks for watching!
Roti looks scrumptious 😋I love the video from 24 years ago of your family making roti ✨✨what wonderful memories
Very nice video, you made look so simple...thank you...❤
Awesome video, you covered everything in this lovely video. Thank you for sharing your family's rich history with us. I will definitely be trying this one. Happy Indian Arrival Day and have a happy and productive week. 😊🥂
I made this recipe today. It was my first time making roti, and it was a big success!!! Even my picky daughter liked it. Thanks so much for sharing. It came out flaky and nice, and paired nicely with the chana and aloo I made.
Awww! Thanks for using the recipe! So happy it was a success in your home 🙏🏼🙂
this video was done really well. I love learning about culture with foods. I'm making buss shot right now 😋. (made it many times)
Reshmi at 12:36 minutes in, it looked like I was looking at heaven. I'm watching this kinda forlornly because I'm starting my Keto Diet on Tuesday so I won't be having this for a while lol! I appreciate the history and honor of your forefathers and fore-mothers as well. It's trying times out here so it is great to be able to watch something as warming (and hunger inducing!) as this video tonight.
Oh gosh!! I asked Kevin what roti means to him and he said "sleep aid" lol He keeps talking about going back on keto.
So happy you enjoyed the video. Hope you are staying safe!
Happy Keto eating!
This was one of your best videos to date. A bit more than a recipe with a personal story but also a very good sequence and well described options for making the roti.
I was transported back home. I like Roti, with curry mango, chic peas, and potato and curry prawns. YUM
Hey Reshmi, just love watching your videos. I just saw how you made buss up shut. Happy Indian arrival day.
Best
Nalinee Edwards.

Hi Reshmi that’s what we the children and grandchildren have to do keep their legacy alive I also does the same thing because my nana came as a little toddler to this country happy arrival day to you and your family.
I really enjoyed watching this video.. you took time and made this video and it was made beautifully..
One thing I love about the Indian Culture is that u got to learn to cook...love it
Making this today, thank you so much for all your awesome videos.
Great video! I'll eat buss up shot with anything curry but my fave will have to be curriied- goat, duck or seasoned chicken. I 💖 it...
I have try and try over the years to make buss up shut but you see this recipe I have really learn how to make it now. I tell you something that warm water when you use it that is the Secret in making a very soft buss up shut and also making sure your baking powder is not expire because that was one of many mistake I made in making my own buss up shut . Thank you for sharing this video and a little history of your family,I must say I enjoy it.
Great traditional Trinidad memories.

You did an amazing job with this video.
Your Nana would be so proud of you 🙂

Wow, my father used to make those ginormous rotis like your Nana, he doesn't anymore, he says he isn't able to do it, coincidentally my mother and I cooked parathas yesterday and today not as huge as your Nanas but they were big. Your paratha looks soft and flaky
Love this.
Lovely. I remember growing up, buss up shut making for large gatherings was one of the most fascinating things to see, our dear older generation prepare.
Your way of doing paratha is the best...like how you explain..Thanks so much ...stay safe.
