That is mean. Anyways, speaking of goalies, the fans of the Predators in playoff games would chant "It's all your fault!" I don't know if they still do it.

I'm a Canucks fan but I could absolutely root for the Jets if they made it to the finals. I know there's the narrative of whether or not Canadian fans would cheer for other Canadian teams, and usually people say no, but I think the Jets are such an underdog most fans would be hard pressed not to. The smallest host city of any nhl team, the team has had its fair share of issues, and the city gets a bad reputation unfortunately. The Jets going deep in the playoffs is quite honestly a team I think many could rally behind.
Habs fan here. Jets are my second choice but I would always like to see a Canadian team not based in Toronto win a cup. I think NHL's nightmare is a Winnipeg vs Ottawa cup final
My favorite was in game 7 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals, when Avalanche goalie Patrick Roy was pulled after the Red Wings took a 6-0 lead (on their way to eventually winning 7-0). At times throughout the remainder of the game, the Red Wings fans chanted "We want Roy!". This was a reference back to Patrick Roy's final game as a Montreal Canadien a few years later, a regular season game also against the Red Wings. Detroit had scored nine goals against him on route to an 11-1 victory, and Roy was furious that they had left him in the net so long, so upon finally returning to the bench he had told the Montreal GM that he would never play for them again. He subsequently refused to attend any team activities to force a trade, until he was traded to Colorado a few days later. In 2002, Red Wings fans wanted to do this to Roy again, demanding that Colorado put Roy back in net so that they could score enough additional goals against him to get him to force another trade. The Colorado coaches were smart enough to ignore this chant and keep Roy on the bench.
Philly fan here, Last season I was at a flyers devils matchup late in the season. There was a huge fight in the nosebleeds of the stadium. A devils fan almost fell from the second story. He was taken out by security.
You’re a young man. I’m 47, and when I was a kid, I would hear some horrifying chants coming from the msg crowd during Ranger games. The Flyers specifically got the worst of it - the crowd would chant “buy a Porsche” after the death of Pelle Lindbergh, and would throw sugar packets at Bobby Clarke, a diabetic.
Whoever would’ve guessed the OG version of the Winnipeg franchise would one day be located in the Mormon capital of America, without a full team name and mascot. Crazy stuff.
Hahah I’m behind the empty net goal in the yellow pens jersey. I thought it was hilarious hearing the chants. Couldn’t help but laugh even though my pens were losing 😂 was nice being 2-0 in the first
I haven't been to every stadium for a home game. I've only been to a devil's game and my Bruins, but my God, we're the devil's fans, something else, and I love you all. The fact that they scream the other team sucks Every time the Devils gets a goal is amazing and hilarious and as a lover of chaos, I appreciate it, and it's great.
As an English man, I can’t watch NHL without thinking how much better the games would be if fans actually created an atmosphere with real chants. Need to take some inspiration from our Premier League fans and amplify this by 10x haha. Maybe there wouldn’t be so many empty seats too, it’s always a shame to see such empty arenas. I went to a Redwings game last season and found it eerily quiet, no atmosphere besides and occasional “let’s go Redwings” chant. Poor form😂
I have no problem with a chant like this being "risky" as I don't think it's really tied to the outcome of this game. It's more directed at Rutger (and his new team) as he's essentially already "lost" -- because he's playing down in the AHL and eating his humble pie.
The last few years when I've gone to Sharks games I've chanted "We want Bedard/Macklin/Hagens," but I don't quite think that's what you were talking about. Also, few if any people join in. If we have the choice based on where they are now I'm also leaning a bit towards Martone for us, maybe Schaefer.
McGroarty got sent down because he's waivers exempt. He was doing well, on the third line with Puljujarvi and Eller, but once Rust came off IR, they had to make a move, and Rutger was the only one who wouldn't have to clear waivers. They'll have similar issues when Blake Lizotte comes back from IR. Defenseman Jack St. Ivany is the only one on the NHL roster who is waivers exempt.
Hey, remember when they started chanting "Laine's Better" when they won that game vs the Leafs years ago? This chant is probably going to age just as well as that one lolol
The one I’ll alway cherish is a shout out from a single fan. Way back when, the Jets were hosting Gretzky and the Kings. Rob Blake was a promising young defensemen who happened to get laid out by one of the Jets. Based on the result, not the actual hit, the Jets player was penalized. As the Kings set up for the PP, guess who skates out to take a point position, Blake of course. After laying on the ice for 5 minutes and practically given last rights, he’s out for the PP? The guy in the crow yells, as clear as day, “Hey Gretzky, Blake’s a better actor than your wife”.
Meh. I dont think they were tempting the hockey gods. It's not like rutger was gonna storm down the tunnel and score a fatty to win it. He's not there. The chirp is valid. It doesn't factor into the game at all.
Forget all the drama and chants. Like if a young player ask for a trade like that without proving himself. That’s a massive red flags throughout the league, YES INCLUDING THE PENGUINS. You bet you ass some of the penguin players hates that kinda shit. Deserved hate for sure
Love the chant. Rutger is entitled. Most villainous is a toss up with Flyers, Rangers, and Islanders who throw trash on the rink even onto their own team.
Not sure how the score relates to the chant. They could have been losing 4-0 and Rutger would still be in the AHL and not there. A very score neutral chant.
We need more of this and less of Go whatever team Go. Why don't we have chants like European football. I'd pee myself if i heard a crowd singing about how McDavid is a nonce. They come up with the funniest stuff.
The NHL needs some spicier chants, it's an old league by now with some pretty clear and defined rivalries Like, how were no fanbase dummying vancouver for the rioting they did when they lost in the stanley cup finals?
Vancouver fans have been flamed for the riots for several years. Thing about it is that it happened in 2011, around 13 years ago, so eventually people kinda got board and moved on.
As much as I love our team, I gotta say the Oilers are pridefully toxic sometimes lol. I almost got beat up on the train during the 2024 western conference final because my buddy jokingly called me a dallas fan after we lost an away game.
