Growing Big Bass in a Fertile Pond Farm - A Simplified Pond Food Chain
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- Growing big bass requires a healthy bluegill population. A healthy bluegill population requires a healthy phytoplankton population.
These photosynthetic micro-organisms form the base of the pond food chain and are essential for a healthy pond. This is why pond water fertility is so important!
Agricultural ponds usually receive abundant nutrients from runoff, but other ponds may need supplement fertilization to boost plankton populations. Join us as we discuss the importance of pond fertility and perform an electrofishing survey on a very fertile pond.

All the residential ponds in my area are fertile because they get fertilizer runoff from people’s yards. Same goes for golf course ponds and they all have that same green color
Now thats a trophy bass pond! Just big bass after big bass!
Damn those are some healthy fish!!! Nice work
Thanks Drew!
looks like some nice bass already in that pond
There are. This is one of the better ponds that we've ever surveyed.
Best video I’ve seen this month
Thanks Parker!
Enjoyed this
Thanks for watching Randy!
great content. thanks guys!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks like some 120%ers there. Beautiful fish. 👍
For sure!
That is one healthy fishery
Great content 👌🏿 👏🏾
Appreciate that
Awesome stuff 👊🏻
Preciate it!
What makes them easy to catch , those strings you throw in water or
Those "strings" project an electrical charge when we push the foot pedal on the front of the boat. It stuns the fish temporarily so we can net them and put them in the live well. Once we measure and weigh each fish, they're each safely returned to the water.
Probaly a dumb question but can the blue gill population get to big in size to we’re the bass can’t properly eat them? Beautiful fish by the way!!!!
Not a dumb question at all. You'd be surprised at how big a bluegill these monster bass can eat. They can easily eat one the size of your hand. But I presume there are some bluegill in this pond that are too big for a bass to eat. Those big bluegill are going to be great for the pond though because they'll spawn multiple times a year and help keep a constant supply for the bass in the pond.
Can you give some recommendations on what type of fertilizer to use and application methods when not near agriculture?
We hope to do a fertilization video soon where we'll explain this in more detail.
Weird.. if you did that in my 5 acre pond.. you would be pulling out 10 bluegill or bass out at a time. Blue gill are bigger than those, but bass are way smaller.
Did you notice any sores from being previously caught by anglers ?
Every now and then we'll notice one, but it isn't a regular occurrence. Don't remember seeing any on the fish in this pond. We see gashes in the prey (bluegill) more than we see any hook damage on the bass.
What would you say the biggest bass weighed
Seems my blue gill are pretty thick.. I have a lot of bass, but they don’t seem to be getting over 20” and about 1-2 lbs.
You need to get rid of about 35lbs of bass per acre every year and you’ll get bigger bass.
Where is this beautiful pond located
For privacy purposes, we don't disclose the exact location of our customer's ponds. But it is in south GA where we are located.
@@TLCPerfectPond I figured as much my I should have asked what state thank for replying looking forward to seeing more episodes
can you have a pond like that in ND
Not sure about ND. Our pond management experience is in the southern states where ponds are predominantly bluegill and largemouth bass.
@@TLCPerfectPond I totally understand I'm from GA and absolutely love bass fishing (largemouth) specifically but they barely exist up here. Bass fishing "real" not smallies would make this place a utopia. And didnt know if it was possible to start a personal pond here with largemouth.
Looks like they can be found as far north as the Great Lakes, so I don't see why not.
@@TLCPerfectPond Well thanks so much for the reply and I look forward to seeing more of your establishments videos
Oh my God, where is this pond and how can I get to take my son's fish it
Just read u don't disclose it and I respect that
Yeah we keep the locations of our customer's ponds private. But no doubt one of those big-bellied bass would be fun to catch on a pole!
Why the musick maybe some explanation of what's going on....
There's a very loud generator on the boat that powers the electrodes on the shock boat. Can't hear anything while shocking. That's why we just film the shocking action and put music over it -- because it sounds better than just a generator running.
I just want a job
It's definitely fun!
@@TLCPerfectPond do y'all come to Alabama
@@charlesincharge8502 We don't currently have any customers in Alabama. But we wouldn't be opposed to having a few in southeast Bama.
Great vid….just purchased a home with a nice pond……UA-cam’n it up to learn how to grow Monsters
Where are the toothy monsters?? These ponds need some pike or musky
We don't have those this far south. We do see an occasional chain pickerel in some ponds that we survey.
