This song was written for Johnny Cash. Chris Martin and Johnny Cash were supposed to release an album together called Til' Kingdom Come, but Cash died before they could start recording it.
Steal my heart and hold my tongue. I feel my time, my time has come. Let me in, unlock the door. I've never felt this way before. The wheels just keep on turning, The drummer begins to drum, I don't know which way I'm going, I don't know which way I've come. Hold my head inside your hands, I need someone who understands. I need someone, someone who hears, For you, I've waited all these years. For you, I'd wait 'til kingdom come. Until my day, my day is done. And say you'll come, and set me free, Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me. In your tears and in your blood, In your fire and in your flood, I hear you laugh, I heard you sing, "I wouldn't change a single thing." The wheels just keep on turning, The drummers begin to drum, I don't know which way I'm going, I don't know what I've become. For you, I'd wait 'til kingdom come, Until my days, my days are done. Say you'll come and set me free, Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me. Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me. Just say you'll wait, you'll wait for me.
This song was played as I walked down the aisle at our outdoor wedding this last summer. My husband and I picked it out together and I still get chills when I hear it.
After first hearing this song, it is a song that I really wish I heard Johnny Cash sing because it awesomely depicts his love for June Carter. If this is a song dedicated to Johnny Cash, here's why. June was everything to Johnny Cash, and in a lot of ways, she was the person who saved him. I can see him singing this song, reminiscing about his feeling towards June during the latter parts of his years. There was a time when he was lost. He was lost for a long while due to his addictions. They plagued for many years, and June was there to help him in the end. She was the reason he cleaned up. She was his life. When he saw June, there was "The One." He had to be with her and could not live without her. June died in May of 2003, and Johnny died in September of 2003, just four months later. I can hear Johnny asking June to wait to enter the Kingdom with him, and I like to think that she did. Before the CD came out, Coldplay had a special on MTV where they played all the songs on the album and chatted about what each piece was about. When Chris was talking about this one, along with the fact that he had written the song to be performed by Cash, he said that this was one of the few songs he'd written that obviously wasn't about a girl. Not to say anyone's wrong for thinking it depicts Johnny's love for June Carter or is about two lovers; it can mean whatever you want it to tell, but it seems like Chris' focus in this song is his spirituality.
Amazing song, amazing tribute to Johnny Cash. Imagining this song sung by Cash sends shivers down my spine, it's too bad he passed away before Coldplay could record it with him. Regardless, it's a incredible song. One of the best by this band.
dont be a music snob so what if they heard it through spiderman the point is they appreciate the music its not like you were the first person ever to listen to coldplay !
OMG, when I heard this I thought "wow, this sounds like Johnny Cash" but I had no idea this was a tribute to him! Which just goes to show Coldplay has incredible talent.
I LOVE this. It's an acoustic performance, it's so raw and genuine. I never thought any band except Coldplay could do this song justice, but Castlecomer do a cover in 5 part harmony - it made me cry....
One of my favorite Coldplay songs. I cry when I hear this though, reminds me of someone very precious to me whom I've lost contact with and miss so very much.
I don't know who had written it, but Martin had planned to sing it together with Cash, but he unfortunately died before it was able to be recorded, masterpiece though.

Is Mumford and Sons inspired on this song? 0:11 = "not with haste" in the beginning 0:40 = "little lion man" in the chorus 1:36 = "awake my soul" in the ending (right after the pause of the song and back to the chorus) Just kidding, but really sounds like....
I love this song, especially the beginning, because it really makes me feel that they are enjoying themselves when they play, and I just wanna join in and sing!
Coldplay wrote the 100% all of it: music and lyrics. Cash was planning a follow up to his 94' Grammy "American Recordings"; but unlike the earlier CD, this one was going to be collaborative effort, allowing JC to work with newer groups/artists like Coldplay. Johnny Cash invited Coldplay to join him, they in turn wrote the music and lyrics with his musical style in mind, and then JC passed away before the duet could be recorded. To honor him, they placed it as a hidden track. End of story.
Uncertain the reason but this song "Til Kingdom Come" by "Cold Play" seems very Dylanesque to me. It sounds like Bob Dylan wrote it. Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this I do like the song, its passionate ie strong emotions and it moves me very emotionally. A great emotional song. I wonder who wrote it.
So true, I loved the film, and I have to say Andrew Garfield definately nailed the role a whole lot better than Toby, sorry but thats just the truth for all of you who got caught in Sam Raimi's tangling mess of a terrible way to follow the real story. Sorry, the rest of you can get back to enjoying the sweet melody. :)
@WellConditionedChimp The tuning goes: C, A, C, G, B, C. And basically all you do is make a C shape but then drop the midle finger and slide up and down, in time with the song. It takes a bit of getting used to, but once you do, it's fantastic and a very helpful tuning.
no.. its not all chris martin.. chris is a big part of the group and i'm a big fan of him! But i think its a pity that a lot of people forget that there are more people in the band, who are, next to chris, awsome to..!! Cause without them.. Coldplay wouldnt exist!!
what kind of sick humor was put in this "movie" you speak of? what movie would put down this great band? Cause I'm not gonna be watching that movie, cause if a coldplay hater can't possibly have anything else good to say in that movie...just saying...
