- I am so overwhelmed by the love and support on the first part of this video. I honestly cannot say thank you enough!!
I hope this part is just as enjoyable!!
If you enjoyed this video, please consider liking and subscribing.
If you've any feedback on what I can improve in recording then please let me know as I would love to take the feedback on board. This is my first time recording offline content so it was a tad nerve-wrecking.
GAH - I was hoping to post this yesterday afternoon but the HD Processing on UA-cam took forever! Thank you all for being so patient.
Lesson learned. Don't film and expect to post it the same day 🥲
Another way to say it is:
"UA-cam is slow, sad, and a big bully😭"
rookie mistake
@@TheMupty Literally 😅
Another treat on Saturday? Damn that's great. :D I never bother with live streaming. In fact I prefer offline streaming. I'm sure there are others like this too.
PS: Don't worry about Geo/money. There is countless geo in hallownest. All through-out the areas. Just play normally exploring new places. Geo will happen by its own. ^^
@@kobarsos82 It may be released Sunday if the HD Processing takes forever but Part 3 should be out this weekend and then Part 4 will be out Wednesday!
Oh, and I can't believe nobody else mentioned this yet. You beat Hornet on your first try! That is very rare in first playthroughs, so congratulations.
Aw thank you!! I definitely was panicking a little 😅
@@drsophiedarling it took my about 2 hours on my first playthrough and I almost quit the game so well done!
@@giuf175 THANK YOU!!
Yeah, I was super impressed with the hornet fight too!! It took me probably 10 tries on the first playthrough 😅
@@ainokenttala AW THANK YOU!!
loving the stark contrast with zote from "get off my friend!" to "i'm gonna punt him into acid" lmao there's definitely a reason he's both a fan favorite and a fan least favorite
He started taking credit for my work!! The ego of him!!
How dare you, crawler! There are no bugs that do not revere and adulate Zote the Mighty! Do not dismiss him so easily, and you must refrain from laughter or pity, as you will be deserving yourself after facing him!
Had me laughing real good like “just you wait” haha 😂
Im a simple person. I see someone playing hollow knight for the first time, i stop what im doing to be envious of getting to experience the game with new eyes
Yas!! I'm so glad you are enjoying!
same i wish i had my memory erased so i can have the experience again lol
I like how the dude that was acting as a *gate* to get into the Greenpath was called a *Baldur*
Team Cherry releasing Baldur's Gate 3 *years* before Larian was a hell of a powermove, I tell you what.
AY YO!!!
The hunter is a real psychopath but his notes are incredibly funny, and at times surprisingly insightful. I love how he asks "do you feel the urge to stalk, to kill, to understand" as if those verbs are equivalent to him.
Honestly, not as much psychopath as just simple, primal being without much morale. But many of his notes contain philosophical, sometimes even really child-like vibe, and some are surprisingly emotional for such harsh a creature. Honestly, pity we didn't get more of him
Sophie: "I should have left you in the mandibles of that vengefly."
Zote: "BUT YA DIDN'T"
I SHOULD HAVE! >:(
22:04 “Most of my deaths are going to be to platforms”
Me who knows whats coming:
You’d think
"I'm not going to see everything, and that's okay." That's a good attitude to have! Stressing about what you aren't experiencing can stop you from enjoying what you are experiencing. And being led around by the nose by commenters wouldn't be particularly fun either.
Absolutely! I will definitely find what I can but unless I google or allow massive amounts of backseating then I won't see anything. I want this to be as authentic of a first play as possible so if I miss stuff then I miss stuff 🥰
Haha Hollow Knight letsplays have a way of attracting Hollow Knight fans lmao. Always nice to see a fresh playthrough.
It really does - I'm super honoured to have you all on this journey 🥰
Well yea obviously that's like saying "this football game really has a way of attracting football fans"
@@xavierdanner5620 I think what they mean is, kinda like they said, 'fresh' playthroughs. There are some games that won't be revisited as much when time goes by and the hype dies down, but new Hollow knight playthroughs always seem to get on people's radar, people keep being interested in seeing someone experience it for the first time. I've seen several channels have a growth spurt because of their HK playthroughs specifically and that's for good reason :)
@@drsophiedarlingyeah, we tend to travel in herds
We like a moths flying to the radiant light of a lantern
Yes!! I still love the fact you read all the dialogue!!! Even hunters journal!! Thank you 🙏 so little people actually take the time to read all the dialogue available!
I think the Hunters Journal is such a cute addition! I can't wait to read all the information!!
@@drsophiedarling I’m very glad to hear 😁
@@drsophiedarlingit's slower paced but I like it. I've already seen the speed runs of this game. I love watching fresh HK players.
I am so UNBELIEVABLY IMPRESSED with that Hornet encounter!!!
THANK YOU!! I was very shocked at myself haha!
“I should have just let him die!” Never a truer word spoken 😂 55:29
I stand by that choice!
omg the "I just got way more views than normal so I don't know what to do" panic energy is so real in this one xD
I expected like maybe 100 to 200 views and welp. It blew up way more than I ever could have predicted!
Minor tip : Bench respawns enemies but ALSO updates your map based on what you explored. You might have to use it some times just to help you on map updating.
PS: Inaccessible areas are normal in metroidvanias. You later get abilities to access them don't worry about it too much. The map helps a lot in finding missing areas or different path routes. You'll get used to it.
No one's first playthrough is perfect. Especially if they don't spoil it by watching videos. I love seeing honest, first-time reactions to this beautiful and interesting game. Please don't change! :)
That is a relief to here! I'm really enjoying this game so definitely don't want to spoil any of it!!
as someone with far more hours in this game than id like to admit: pretty much every run i've done after my 3rd run i did without the map. after playing the game long enough the labyrinth turns into a recognizable series of caverns and eventually you just don't need the crutch anymore, you can just find your way through
"get off my friend he doesnt deserve this!" *few minutes later* "okay maybe he deserved this" LMAO Zote is the kind of character that you love to hate
watching you walk past the Stag Station sign and straight into Hornet's room gave me so much anxiety i wont lie XD. that said, beating Hornet on your very first attempt is awesome to see, she is generally seen as the first big roadblock for new players to HK. most people who beat her continue playing, and most who get stuck on her end up dropping it, so it's nice to see you learn her patterns quickly and slap a win out of your first try.
i also find it HILARIOUS that you masterfully avoided ALMOST every single Fool Eater on your merry little adventure(the one on the lever is a tricky lil bugger), even though they're placed in exactly the spots most people would decide to take a little breather and check the map but NOOOOO Sophie here just barrels along and dodges every trap in her way (except the acid pits but we'll get there someday)
if there's one thing i know about the HK community, it's that we LOVE new playthroughs because it's pretty much universally agreed that if we could choose to erase all our knowledge of the game and play it again for the first time we would in a heartbeat. we can't really do that but we CAN live vicariously through any new players who give it a shot and we all swarm to watch and gently guide them through their own journey through the Eternal Kingdom of Hallownest and its beautiful story
I was stuck on Hornet for AGES when I first played the game, so congratulating on that! Another thing: you have to have space in your soul vessel in order to refill it using using the totems (those things you hit). If your soul vessel is full heal up your masks and then hit the totem, your vessel will fill up then.
"that's like malenia's waterfowl" yessss! i alway s say, hornet walked so malenia could run :p
OMG THE BATTLE WITH HORNET WAS SO ANXIETY INDUCING. I was screaming for you to heal when she was stunted and "don't panic!" when I was panicking and ahhhhhhhh.
It was very exciting! You did amazing! It took me like 30 tries my very first time and you beat her in one! This game doesn't stand a change against you, queen! You've got this :)
It felt a little slower than the previous episode, didn't it? And it's fantastic, to chill out and just spend time in this beautiful world 😊
And as you were not second guessing buying the long nail even though you were saving for the lantern, I'd suggest getting the gathering swarm from sly too, since spending on it will make you save up more from not losing the geo ^^
Yeah, I was taking my time now based on the recommendations in part 1 that I shouldn't rush through 🥰
Don't worry about your 'platforming ability'. When I first played HK I struggled just to get out of the starting zone as I've not played many platformers and found the coordination difficult, now I just fly through the areas. You're doing great!
Thank you!!
Same! i spent so long understanding the jumping. the only platforming I've done before never had that and I've never used controller too.
Tips on healing:
-While you're exploring, try to top off your health whenever possible. You'll always get more soul by striking enemies along the way, so don't worry about "wasting" it. That goes for using magic attacks like your Vengeful Spirit as well.
-If you come across one of those statues that recovers your soul, don't just whack at it immediately. Heal yourself to full first, then refill your soul with the statue. Most statues have a limited amount of soul that they will bestow, although they recharge similar to how certain enemies respawn.
-Benches will recover all of your health, but none of your soul, so don't heal yourself by focusing if you're just going to rest at a bench immediately anyway. Hot springs will recover both health and soul.
-When you hold the button to "focus", your soul will start to deplete, but if you let go of the button before you've finish healing, you will still lose the soul you started to spend without getting anything for it. It's ok to cancel out of a focus if you need to avoid getting hit, but try to avoid that happening by being deliberate about when you choose to heal.
-Just like in a Souls-style game, part of mastering bosses is about learning when and where you can safely heal. It takes a moment and makes you vulnerable, so you have to time it right.
-After you deal a certain amount of damage to a boss, you may hear an audio cue like clashing swords, and the boss will be stunned for a few seconds. If you hit the boss while they're like this, they'll immediately start fighting again, so it's usually better to use this opportunity to get a heal or two in while you can unless your health is already full.
Excellent!
I just found your channel and finished watching the first part. You know, not enough people talk about this, but it is SO hard to find a playthrough of one of your favorite games and to actually like the person playing it, as in their personality and play style, but it's such a happy and satisfying feeling when you find one. So, I'm just happy right now. :)
Thanks for the long-form videos. I like longer videos, so I do appreciate it very much.
I hope you enjoy your journey through this masterpiece of a videogame and that you get everything you want out of it.
Omg you'll actually make me cry!! That's so very sweet!! I'm so glad you are enjoying the playthrough and that you can enjoy reliving the game through my first experience!! 🥰
@@drsophiedarling I mean it. Thanks for the vids. :)
You figuring out what gap you were remembering was so satisfying. I definitely can empathize with the feeling of gaslighting yourself in this game. Great video series so far…KEEP IT UP! 😌
Thank you!!
"I wonder if anyone does a challenge run of this like 'Im not gonna do it with a map'" Oh you sweet summer child.
It's a thing isn't it? 😂

I have played Yoshi's island, and find it excellent. I played it through and through many many times when I was younger. That rolling big spike enemy was one of my favourites, together with the birds and their long floppy wings. ^^
That was the most agresive vengefly king iv'e ever seen XD
Incredible job with Hornet, those souls instincts paying off
Aw thank you Justin!!
Great job defeating Hornet on your first try! A lot of people struggle with her the first time (like me!)
I'm impressed by how quickly you're moving through the game! Looking forward to more episodes!
Aw thank you!! I think if it wasn't for all the Souls games and challenge runs I've done - I'd definitely be struggling a lot more 😅
Yay! Pt. 2’s here … Wait a minute! Did I hear correctly? I’m. A. Darling?! What a way to start a video!
YOU ARE INDEED 🥰
Another great episode! I loved how confused you got sometimes in Greenpath. Such a throwback to my own first playthrough! Although.... beating Hornet on your first try? Can't relate to that whatsoever! 😂
Aw I'm glad you are having such a good time here!! Yeah, I was getting a little lost. Still taking some getting used to but I really am enjoying this game!
You healing a lot is great! Smooth button holding for topping of that health bar is the key to victory, as all the cool kids say nowadays.
Wooo, part 2!! Chuffed to have finally found a playthrough where someone tries to find all the dialogue and lore and actually reads the Hunter's Journal! Speaking of, be sure to check on it whenever it updates for cool tidbits and such!
Yeah - I kept checking to see if it was updated haha! I'm so nosy for the Hunter's info on them!
From what I've seen the Hollow Knight community are really really chill and great with not providing spoilers, compared to other games. I think this is a good game to choose to start producing more offline content.
Your doing great and keep it up.
Thank you so much!!
Wow, you're genuinely doing great at this so far! Beating Hornet on your first try was amazing, _and_ you're checking out the lore whenever you can! And you're doing pretty well with the platforming too! You do maybe struggle a bit with maps and directions, but everyone should have at least one flaw to keep them from being insufferably smug! 😀
HAHA yeah I've never played a Metroidvania so the direction/maps is taking some getting used to. Whereas Souls you could just wonder around aimlessly and find your way haha!
The just mid talk stop then “I committed a murder” only to go back to talking normally got be dying
HAHAHA I have two brain cells and I just get distracted so easily and forget what I'm saying!
I can't believe you beat Hornet in the first try, she totally obliterate me when i played it hahah, you are doing great!
Also, the title hahahah, keep it up Taylor :D
Aw thank you!! Honestly your comment made me laugh. I used to get it all the time when live streaming so the fact I'm getting that on UA-cam as well is just so funny! 🥰
@@drsophiedarling hahah this is the first time I've seen you, and you look so much alike that I was afraid it would annoy you 'cause you probably get it all the time, but fortunately it made you laugh haha

"I'm a bit of a perfectionist." Oddly enough, the only tattoo I have is of the Knight, and the words "Progress, not perfection."
Which is all to say "keep going, your killing it."
NO WAY! That's such an amazing coincidence!!
Oh my God!!! You're actually reading the journal and you beat Hornet first try!!! Wooooow (a little envious of your gaming capacities, but anyway: congrats, you're great!!! I'm looking foward to keep watching 🎉🎉🎉)
Aw thank you!! I love the journal!!
SO much more a fan of youtube dedicated posts as opposed to streamers. Everything annoying gamer-wise is in the streamer world... spoilers constantly given by chat, not paying attention to playing the game, mostly just talking to chat, trying really hard to push personality over actual content. All that to say I love that you are going down this path. Especially when it comes to games that deserve all your attention. You are doing great, both in the game, and in your approach!
Hah - yeah, the hollow knight community LOVES watching new people experience the game, and theyre by far one of the best, friendliest, and most welcoming game fanbases I've ever met. This happened to SymbaLily too, LOL - hollow knight boosts channels because all its fans just love watching people find it.
Don't worry about missing things! You can always find them another time. HK is a game that deserves multiple playthroughs, and in fact requires them to get some achievements.
Oh, the soul totems - if your soul vessel (the globe next to your masks) is full, hitting a soul totem doesn't do anything.
Yeah, I realised that I was making a mistake with the totems haha!! Silly me 😅Honestly, you have all been so lovely and welcoming. I'm super grateful!!
15:11 "I do hope you guys enjoy this video as much as the last one. I know it's not gonna be as exciting" Hey don't judge us! Some of us just want to watch more of HK.
I just found this series and I am enjoying your playthrough immensely. There's real joy in watching someone encountering this game for the first time. You're doing a great job of sharing your thoughts as you go, which to me is the best part of watching a HK game.
I've had this game on steam since forever, started playing it a couple of weeks ago and just finished it yesterday. What a lovely game, rage inducing at some points but it's just so good.
I hope you have a really good experience with this gem of a game.
The idea of approaching Hollow Knight players (or any players tbh) and trying to tell them - even coyly - what they missed in their first hours of play is so wild to me
like, even aside from the fact that most of these people are blind to their own playthroughs and have long since forgotten how much they missed, the game literally gives you new powers as you go, and slowly shows you how to look at old things in a new way, and expects you to eventually revisit places (this is also why it feels like it's being a bit unhelpful about telling you how to play. When you do your revisits, you might even notice some rooms are set up in ways to very gently hint at tutorials, without ever being gauche enough to push you.) Even an incredibly, unnaturally astute player will be blinded by information overload sometimes.
It just feels like it makes players feel like they're two steps behind the curve all the time when they're not, it's not a very kind or thoughtful thing to do.
Seconding all the delight over the Hornet boss victory, awesome! Makes the death to Gruz Mother all the funnier, lol
Appreciate you!! I completely don't take it to heart as I know people are excited about sharing the experience but it can be a tad frustrating when navigating the comments and feeling as if I'm being told that I'm playing wrong, or having my hand held when I'm a grown woman and definitely capable of figuring out this game as I go haha!! Thankfully I'm getting better at engaging and ignoring what is too excessive in terms of hand holding 🥰
You're doing really well! A special thank you for healing when you're injured. It's a me problem, not a you problem but it stresses me out a little when people have health missing even though the have full soul. So thank you for that. :)
Yeah I don't want to give people anxiety haha!! I've definitely started to get better at keeping it full!
I love your let’s play! Your running commentary is so much fun! FYI, jumping off walls comes later. Like Metroid, as you acquire new skills you’ll be able to come back and explore areas further. As others said, the experience is about exploration and discovery and there’s no set time line. Just enjoy and have fun! Thanks again for your great content!
That means so much!! Thank you!!
Also want to say that you’re the first content creator I’ve seen actually reading the hunters journal! So cool to see your attention to the small things
Aw thank you!! Yeah I like to learn as much as I can!!
hey :) good job defeating hornet on the first try. i think there is big difference between people on twitch and youtube. on the twitch people wants quick action, or are loosing concentration and starts talking to each other about random stuff. on the youtube people wants to enjoy game :) so dont be afraid when you are not doing a big progress. we like watching hollow knight even when you running around and just farming geo :-D
That's really reassuring - thank you!!
I love seeing someone so positive and cozy do a play through of Hollow knight! My favorite things about the game are the story, art, and music, and I feel like a lot of Hollow Knight content on youtube favors gameplay and speed running. This is perfect cozy watching for me and helps calm me down!
WELCOME!! I'm so glad you find it cosy and relaxing. I'm definitely not a super HYPE person. I just like to chill and experience these games for what they are!!
Hey Sophie! UA-cam recommended me your videos and I've watched both episodes of your HK adventures in a sitting lol Just wanted to say that you're doing great (and, specially, amazing job defeating Hornet in your first try! Not many people achieve this) and that your content is really comfy and enjoyable. It's always a nice experience remembering how a casual playthrough looks like after years of speedruns lol
OMG I'm so glad that you enjoyed it! At least you won't have to wait long for Episode 3 which is ready to go for tomorrow afternoon so some cosy Sunday watching! 🥰 I'm really enjoying the game so far and beginning to get a hang of the mechanics at least!
Don't worry about constantly trying to open a map you don't have yet - bringing up the map overlay quickly becomes so ingrained, and everyone does it.
It's just instinctive!!
I just started watching this playthrough and im having so much fun ! Please keep uploading more 😊
Aw I'm so glad you are enjoying the series!! There's still a lot more episodes to go!!
i could literally watch an entire video of you reading the whole hunters journal
Just started watching this series. Love watching a fresh play thru. Beating hornet your first try is no small feat! Well done!
1:10:00 - "ambient lore" or "world building", maybe?
(also, it cracks me up when you pronounce "deity" as "diet-y"; I've always heard and said "day-it-y" :) It's a cute localization quirk, I bet!)
One actual tip: Be cautious about walking into a room and leaving before fully exploring it. You're already marking some of them with your map pins, which is a FANTASTIC habit to get into, but there will be times when you go somewhere when you're looking for a bench or an exit and you don't think to do it. Those rooms are harder to keep track of by nature, so I guess the lesson here is "don't be afraid to take your time even if you end up dying"- it can absolutely be frustrating, but much like in the Soulses it's not the end of the world :)
I wish i could add a like on your videos every time i watch them.
You have a real soothing vibe
Omg you're too sweet 😭❤️
I think Greenpath is one of the most maze-like parts of the game, so don't feel bad about having trouble navigating there.
And Zote my beloved! Everybody else seems to hate him, but I can't help but like the lil guy. I have a soft spot for charming (or grumpy) narcissists.
I think he might grow on me eventually!!

Don’t feel like you need to have a perfect game run. Us HK fans just enjoy the raw reactions from your experience. I particularly enjoy when you realize how amazing the game is. Those little moments is what makes me want to watch you. So just relax and enjoy it. ❤
Aw thank you!! I think it's just nerve wrecking as I'm so used to live streaming and gauging reactions from chat that you aren't quite sure if the video is entertaining until the comments roll in! Thank you for the reassurance!
Lets go! excellent Playthrough ! i love that you just keep exploring, please do not let other people stop you from keep exploring the areas, this game is all about exploration and taking time to do it, keep the good job!
Aw yay! I'm doing my best to try and find the right balance between exploring and progressing haha!!
Well done on Hornet. First attempt. I struggled so much with her. I know I just suck at Hollow Knight and never completed everything in it but you made Hornet look so easy😮
Ah no!! I just have quite a bit of experience with Souls games and have done challenge runs so I think that definitely helps me reflex wise!! I'm sure you don't suck! 🥰
Congratulations on beating Hornet first time! She can be tricky but is so much fun.
Hollow knight is my favorite game. It's so fun to watch someone play without any prior knowledge!
My non-spoiler tip is to make sure you're using quick-cast instead of focus for spells (if you're not already!). It starts the animation for the spell on frame one instead of a lot later and makes combat a lot tighter.
OH SHOOT I think someone mentioned quick cast on my Part 1. It's RB right?!
@@drsophiedarling it should be but don't hesitate to rebind if something else is more natural!

Since you brought up the subject of offline content versus live streaming: Offline works for me, because it allows me to to view videos when I have the time and find myself in the right mood. It would be pure coincidence if these windows of opportunity matched with a live stream. Twitch is simply not for me.
Yeah, I've been absolutely exhausted trying to balance Twitch with IRL. UA-cam offers me a lot more freedom and the bonus is people being able to watch when they have the time and feel up to it!
@@drsophiedarling It is a mystery to me how content creators manage to produce material on a regular basis when they live an adult life with adult responsibilities like jobs, families, and so forth. A live streaming schedule seems quite impossible to fit in, and even offline content creation is something I would not be able to pull off. The risk of a burnout seems much too high.
@@rseichter Yeah that's why I came to UA-cam!! I can pre-record on my down time. I do minimal editing so that doesn't take long. Then when it's processing I can just do other stuff that I need to do! I don't record in the week because of work so everything is usually done Friday and Saturday!
The Moss Chargers will only spawn on the platform if they have enough space, which is why it wasn't spawning when you stood in the middle of the platform, and when you started running back and forth you gave it just enough space to spawn. That's why you kept running into it x'3
It will always spawn to the side furthest away from you.
