I know it's traditionally a female name, but it's Christmastime, and holly is known to be prickly but pretty and pleasant, just like a hedgie :) Speaking of new animals, how are Cookie and Dough doing?
This is so cute but also weird. Here in Germany we also like them but we have them as wild animals and noone is keeping them as pets. People do take in baby hedgehogs or injured hedgehogs and nurture them up and then return them to the wild. Groce but interesting: Wild hedgehogs will chew on disgusting stuff like carcasses, turn it into a paste with their saliva, and rub it into their spines. So other animals attacking them and getting stung have an elevated risk of getting a nasty infection. The reason why he likes the leather gloves is just due to his impulse to try to turn it into a bioweapon.
Same in France, hedgehogs are not a pet. They live in the wild, sometimes in garden, I used to have a pair, very useful to keep the snails and slugs population down. They were also feeding in the food I left for the feral cats. It would not come to me to take them as a pet.
@@felixtheswiss If they can make hybrids with the wild variety, that would be a reason why you need permission to keep them. The one in the video also seems to be a color variety, normally they have dark fur.
So strange to me that people keep hedgehogs as pets, I've found a wild hedgehog a few years ago while exploring a forested area in Scotland so my name suggestion would be Scotty. I love our wild hedgehogs here in the UK along with all our other wildlife, even in my large town I still get to interact with many different species even had a fox walk past me a while back but I stood back against the wall (I was in an alleyway so there wasn't any room for me to give the little guy a good amount of space but he slowly walked up then passed me with a scared yet also interested look on his face. Then last year while my partner was over I had an amazing encounter with a rarer species to find in England in the form of a young legless lizard found for some reason down my street, it wasn't a good place for the little guy to be and could easy get caught by a bird so on this occasion I decided to interfere and picked him up. I showed him to my partner who was over from Northern Sweden so it was new for him to see a wild reptile then we both went out to my local woodlands (their ideal habit that wasn't far from where I found him) and let him go in a place where he hopefully wouldn't be disturbed by walkers and their dogs. Animals are just amazing and I appreciate all of them
My first time seeing a hedgehog was walking back from a pub in Scotland and I had no idea what I was looking at! I may have been just a _bit_ drunk... I always think of Scotland when I see a hedgehog now. 🙂
Lol I’d call him Schnozz, cos he’s got an impressive one lol. I like hedgies, but unfortunately here in NZ, there’s a bit of a schizophrenic attitude towards hedgehogs. They like many creatures here, were imported by the white settlers as a reminder of home…..a nice thought but disastrous for a country with no native mammals other than bats, and lots of unique, and more importantly, ground nesting birds. Hogs will eat birds eggs and nestlings. So environmentally they’re not really approved of. Also, they’re vectors for bovine TB which is an issue in a country that produces milk as a major export, and they carry ringworm, fleas and mange all of which can be passed to pet animals. But, there are also hedgie rescue groups who take in sick hedgies(usually mange) and treat and release, and ofc gardeners like them cos they chow down on slugs n’ snails. Me, I like em. I love our native birds too but the fact is, hogs are here, eradication is all but impossible, might was well learn to get on together.
Can we just all agree that this adorable child is a Pickles? He is the most adorable hedgehog, and name that's a variant of Tickles would be absolutely perfect :)
Pinecone! Too abstract? Either way. I wonder, do the noises of other animals around the building end up bothering the animals, or do they just sort of adjust to it?
A few names: 1) Norman (the giant hedgehog from monty python) 2) Nelson (after Nelson Mandela, another ambassador) 3) Other people mentioned Twitchy and Tickles, and don't mind hopping into those camps
Apollo - Greek god of archery (pointy things) and healing. And, hopefully a future an ambassador for good stewardship of our furry (and prickly) friends.
Love that name! It’s my son’s middle name, Kaden Rhys. Jonathan Rhys Meyers & Jonathan Rhys Davies are both well known actors, which is where I got the spelling. It’s the masculine spelling of Reese.
since you mentioned the "looks like he has two faces" thing, I'm gonna put forward the name Harvey. I think that'd be a pretty cute name for a hedgehog
Twitchy - that nose! He’s actually not that guarded. In your hands he sticks nose out, then tucks back in, then out, then in again. He’s actually a fairly venturesome little fellow.
Omg he is to cute!! 😍🥰😘 Maybe name him…Dapple!!! I love the name Dapple I always thought it would be a cute name for a horse or a dog with dapples on it! 😘 I LOVE HIM! 🙂🙃🙂🙃
Hedgies are a lot of work. They are also insectivores, so their diet is a bit messier and more expensive than most other pets. Not really a starter pet. Sorry to bust bubbles.
A hedgehog was my first pet. I loved her so much I have had 6 different Hedgehogs now. I think people get rid of them because to have a social/friendly hedgehog takes a lot of time and work.
@@AmandaGarrellArt I fully agree. Though a completely different species, I've spent a good deal of my life taking in and rehousing chinchillas. They too (sometimes) need a lot of work to become social. And yes, at least a quarter of them come to me because they weren't getting the attention they needed. I've got a pair of Beiges right now that took over two years before they stopped drawing blood (very rare to find them that aggressive). Most came to me because the previous owner had changes in their lives that meant they could no longer keep the animal (Chinchillas live anywhere from ten to twenty years on average - yes, a wide span). Always good to do serious research and check if your desired pet suits your lifestyle, personality, free time, and that you know and can commit to their needs, longterm. There won't always be a rescue option available to you if you make an error. That being said, I've babysat hedgies before. They are EXCEPTIONALLY adorable. Chinchillas just suited me better.
A few years back I adopted an African Pygmy Hedgehog and named her Snufflepudge. She was similar to this lil guy and had hardly been cared for, never mind handled. I also wore leather gloves to handle her and she got used to it really quickly. She wasn't so much scared as grumpy as all get out, once she realised I wasn't going away she kind of just went about her day and pretty much ignored me. She was absolutely unafraid of my cats and would huff at them until they left her alone. Such a cool little creature :) And I think this guy could be called Harvey after Harvey Dent aka Twoface in Batman
Spruce! I think that would be a good name cause his spikes are kind of like the needles on a spruce tree. And the little spruce branch was the first thing I noticed about his enclosure. It would be really cute to just always have one there as his namesake.
That wheel is not going to be good for his back in the long run. I suggest the Carolina storm bucket wheel. Then he does not have to curve his spine when running.
I like Picket for him. He's spikey and guarded like a fence.
Love the idea of Picket!
so so cute
Picket is good.
Fits for his defensive nature, like a picket soldier as well :)
Yes to this name!
I think Smudge or Charcoal would be cute, since he's got a little smudge on his face! :)
Smudge
Aw, Smudge is such a cute name for a hedgie!
I really like that name for him, Smudge!
All i can think is that he’s a crotchety little man and it’s the holiday season so he should be Scrooge
Great minds--but I was thinking Ebenezer.
I know it's traditionally a female name, but it's Christmastime, and holly is known to be prickly but pretty and pleasant, just like a hedgie :)
Speaking of new animals, how are Cookie and Dough doing?
I think Thimble would be a good hedgehog name
I like Thimble
I like Thimble too.
That is a sweet name, and contrary to him being the prickly one actually. That seems so well suited
Oscar the Ouch!
If he has two faces, then he must be Harvey!
Came here to say this!
Yep, Harvey 100%
i just commented this, but then i saw your comment and deleted mine lol

It is great that you can offer him a home! For a name, I humbly submit Mr. Tiggy-winkle in honor of Beatrix Potter. 🙂 Welcome, little hedgehog!
Splendid idea!
Tiggy-winkle is too cute!!!!
Great idea!

Pear - cause he’s a prickly pear :)

I wondered this too, if the bird noises especially would impact him as birds are their natural predators.
Pinecone is good, me and at least one other commenter had the same idea, I think it has a chance of winning.
Zoey's like "hey, hey, where's my food?! It's feeding time!!"
A few names:
1) Norman (the giant hedgehog from monty python)
2) Nelson (after Nelson Mandela, another ambassador)
3) Other people mentioned Twitchy and Tickles, and don't mind hopping into those camps
Tickles isn't a good choice
Janus(JAY-nus) , the two faced Roman god of new beginnings.
nice one!
Hogrid, a play on the name Hagrid. Or Harvey, after the Batman villain 'Two-Face' Harvey Dent.
Think the obvious name is Pokey!
This my my first thought. Now I like the sound of Huffy after she said the word so many times.
Percival was the fist name that popped into my head. Formally, Sir Percival of Floofy Duvet
Or Perc for short
I hope they name him Sir Percival of Floofy Duvet, and that they don't shorten it to Percy, but instead always refer to him as Percival.
Grinch! Because he seems so grumpy but he will warm up eventually!
Or pricklepit, just because it’s a cute name
I suggest "Arthur" or "Schopenhauer" to name it after the "Hedgehog's Dilemma". To match his attitude.
He’s so beautiful! Just discovered your channel and I love it!
Should name him Bulstrode :)
Bulstrode like the barge? I like it.
I like the name Figaro for him. Somehow I can imagine Pavarotti singing in the background while he is rummaging around in his shredded cardboard.
He looks like a Hank.
I name all my hedgehogs after food! Our newest one is Hagelslag which is dutch for chocolate sprinkles!
Also I would suggest a bucket wheel at least 12" diameter. Theres one called the Carolina storm wheel that is very popular.
That's a good one
Apollo - Greek god of archery (pointy things) and healing. And, hopefully a future an ambassador for good stewardship of our furry (and prickly) friends.
Lovely to meet the new lil guy!! The first name I thought of was Coconut, because he looks like he's covered in desiccated coconut sprinkles.
Name him Fieri. With that spiky do, he looks like Guy Fieri.
You should name him Thistle!
Thistle for sure
Tickle and thistle is a good pair
I loved that music playing while he was in his little "ball pit" - what was it?
He’s got smart little eyes, it made me think of Sherlock
I like the name Rhys (pronounced reece).
I've only come across that name in the game Tales from the Borderlands. Is that where you got it from? Just curious ;)

Spiny Norman is the perfect name for a grumpy hedgehog. Old school Monty Python fans will no doubt get the reference.
"Dinsdale..." 🦔

I thought the same thing!
I guess Sonic is a bit on the nose (pun intended), but what about an homage to it with the name Sonny?
Two faces? That screams for "Janus".
My daughter likes Thorny as a name.
I like Harvey!
Maybe sprinkle for a name? For some reason I think it fits with the spikes?
His name should be Mushroom. It's the first thing I thought when I saw him. 🙂
Mushroom is good
Omg Mushroom is to CUTE!!! GREAT idea! 😗😍☺😉😗😝🥳🤩🤪
Twitchy - that nose! He’s actually not that guarded. In your hands he sticks nose out, then tucks back in, then out, then in again. He’s actually a fairly venturesome little fellow.
Since he dislikes humans, I vote for Shadow or Mewtwo.
Names … Harvey Dent (two face) or Huffy ❤️🩹 cuz They get so huffy! 😂 we had a hedgie for a long time! Their bellies are so soft! Her name was Marge 🥰
His spot looks a little like he has a half-mask on. How about Eric or Phantom if you want to be on the nose?
idk why but the name Toffee came to mind looking at him.
My dogs name is Toffee
How about Rudolph since he has a splash of pink on his nose? Plus, he arrived just in time for the Christmas season :)
Name him Prickles!! It makes sense lol
I second Thistle
Thistle is getting suggested a lot. It's a good one.
Prickle’s, Kimchi, Mr. Nettles, Thistle,Gorgonzola, and Pepper might all be good names for his strong personality!
Kimchi , Thistle, Gorgonzola

I like Sam for some reason! :) Thank you for taking him in!
My 7-year old Maeve suggests these: Marshmallow, Chamomile, Fennel, Dragon, or Frank. Congrats on the new addition!
Ebby: a diminuative version of Ebenezer in honour of that grumpy face that will find joy eventually, as in A Christmas Carol

AV is in homage to our sweet girl who wandered over the rainbow Bridge to live in Asgard.

I def prefer Speckle to Speckles.
Rambutan - like the fruit
Adorable. Looks like a Joey.
Quillem Dafoe like Willem Dafoe the actor who usually plays really grumpy roles lol
