I think I would use one as Rodan was depicted in Godzilla King of Monsters. The dragon has remained dormant instead a volcano for many centuries and something has caused it to awaken bringing untold destruction to the city below.
AJ have you done a video about Abeir? The reason I ask is because I thought I remembered you or Mr. Rhexx or Jorphdan(the PH is silent) talking about it saying that this is where the primordials went after AO split the world and that it was a natural landscape full of dragons. I call you guys the big 3 of D&D.
@@AJPickett, I know that I would love to see a video about Abeir. I always wonder if it has the same species of dragons as Toril, since Bahamut and Tiamat have no influence there.

I've got a party heading into a volcanic area to investigate draconic activity and I might switch it from a red dragon to one of these bad boys as they don't know what is actually there yet. Awesome video!!
I actually have quite a few "sages and experts" based on you, Jorphdan, Mr Rhexx, the respective crews of DungeonCast, Dungeon Dad and the Nerdarchy mascot (who in our campaign is portrayed as a composite of the Nerdarchy crew) all of whom are contributors for my party's "Enhanced" Mimir, which can function anywhere except the Astral Plane, Negative/Positive Energy planes and the Lady of Pain's Mazes (iirc Mimirs normally could only function on the outer planes). I don't remember who we gave what, but *all* of you were given room to comment from the Spell Plague from the perspective of different parts of the world.

"I should say roughly the size of a human (fist)" The "fist" in that was so quiet I actually had to rewind the video to make sure you didn't say it was the size of a human, period.
I remember that issue of Dragon. The primitive campaign article was some pretty good food for thought. The article about the dragon wasn’t as good. I always think there are too many varieties to choose from. It detracts from the awe inspired by them when there are a thousand different types to populate your world with. I tend to use them very sparingly, so they are more like major NPCs.
I am of the same mind concerning dragons, there are so many. How do they feed, mate and fight with so many of their kin around while the world is not in a semi-apocalyptic state?
I haven't thought about utilizing your likeness in my actual campaigns. I have used philosopher Alan Watts as a mage. I never did like the simplification of age and size categories. Dragons should be very unique and not easily categorized. In reflection, proper magic for fire and heat protection, some pick axes in the general area and one could walk away wealthy without angering the dragon encouraging the gem growth.
I go one step farther. Dragons are major NPCs, so most of them could be the rare Unique category of frequency by the seriously old-school players & DMs.
Put you in my world as an NPC Sage? Yes, I believe I will. In fact, Alejandro Juan Pickett shall be the sage to whom Lhaeo refers adventures, when they come bothering Elminister.
Does Toril have a similar mostly molten core like earth? These dragons could have a vast deep realm open to them, all the while the people of the 'Shallow Lands' think they are extremely rare in these isolated and tiny environments.
So, do these dragons get into conflict with Reds a lot? Fighting over the volcanic real-estate? Or maybe coming to an agreement since the Beljuril creates it.
Since Dragons are elemental energy made into flesh (oversimplification) is there a dragon that harnesses far realm energy? Again, thanks for the video AJ!
@@scratthesquirrel5242, there are Brainstealer Dragons and Elder Brain Dragons which can be classed as Aberrations officially. However, whether or not they are connected to the Far Realm in any way depends on your understanding of Ilithid origins.

Ah... should I DM a game within the foreseeable future, I will have a Sage of great repute named "AJ Pickett". Thanks for the green-light on that. I love these dragons you just introduced me to, but I already have in my home brew a Volcanic Dragon, it's a proto-dragon whose descendants became the Stone Dragon and the Red Dragon. It's a dim (human intellect) dragon with not-so-great magical ability compared to other dragons, but its breath weapon is devastating. It's a cone of flaming soot, as big of a blast as a Red Dragon bellow. You can reduce its effect if you dodge it while holding your breath and protecting your eyes (Save vs. Breath Weapon). Fail the Breath Weapon save... your entire being is incinerated and replaced with volcanic minerals (turned to stone, no save vs. petrification). Pass the Breath Weapon save... and get heat and chemical damage... reduce to 0 or less HP via that and still turn to stone like the save failure. The HP damage from passing the Save vs. Breath Weapon is a lot of HP of damage only in comparison to passing the save of other dragon breath weapons. They are immune to heat, fire, earth, and magma damage. They are also immune to any weapon damage done by any attacker not in contact with the earth, unless they are also not in contact with the earth. Their bite attack has a swallow chance for any target significantly smaller than them, swallowed targets are obliterated unless immune to all these: heat, earth, magma, petrification, acid/chemicals/corrosion, and edged weapons. Their claws, when attacking (and digging), have a magma enhancement. If something like Earthquake is used on them, and they are hurt, they WILLINGLY fall into the ground to get swallowed up... that restores them completely and reloads their breath weapon as well as being buried under even sheer granite does not stop them from just popping back up at the beginning of the next round. Their wings are a bit of a joke compared to other dragons. They can use their link to the elemental earth to levitate non-magically, making their wings go from almost useless to letting them be able to move through the air at the same speed they do on the ground. They have a LOT of the defenses of Stone Dragons. Since they are proto-dragons, their Draconic Fear is very low... despite them being devastatingly more lethal in some of their base attacks and defenses than their descendants. Their lair awareness is frightenly acute, like the best of a modern dragon and an Abyssal spider within its web. Their tail lash is like their modern versions. They only do that when on open ground, reluctantly, because they are not used to doing it save for in territorial fights against their own kind. Why did these diverge into the two modern dragons with their primary form going extinct? Sages argue to this day, dragons argue more. The pseudo-consensus is that Volcanic Dragons tended to be cannibalistic when territorial fights and-or mating failed. There is some evidence they ate their young when offspring when they didn't leave ASAP. Red and Stone Dragons seem to be the divergent extremes of this insane proto-dragon, theoretically speaking. Both those dragons have their own versions of these ancient dragons, really talking about how their own species is superior and that ancestor is far more like the other species. Both scorn the very idea that this proto-dragon links them as kin in any way.
What would happen if my character drank dragon's blood? Being magical in nature it surely has many uses besides being a rather strange aperitif. But would my guy, say, maybe gain some immunities or some sort of damage resistance? Would he gain some aspect of its awesome power maybe?
You’d probably have to do something to it to drink it first. I remember it being stated in one of his previous videos that eating something like a red dragons meat would be akin to eating meat soaked in the spiciest things in the world. It could cause you damage if not prepared correctly. In addition to that you have to take into account the fact that since dragons are typically elementally charged creatures you probably would get some sort of temporary resistance boost. I think a blood transfusion would be better for longer lasting effects.
If you're interested in exploring potential effects in third-party material, I'd recommend giving E.E. Knight's "Age of Fire" series a read. The first three books can be read in any order and the third (Dragon Outcast) explores a community of dragons who have taken steps to overcome their territorial instincts in order to live alongside each other and other species. I won't spoil too much in case you want to read, but there are events within that lead to the characters discovering that dragon blood has effects similar to anabolic steroids when ingested by humans, but obviously much more potent and fantastical. Excellent series and all told from the POV of three dragon siblings.
