It sound more like a slight rod knock and to much steam from the engine bay to be head gaskets so it was a rod sent thkw the block with some type of liquid getting on the block so the engine is blown
Coolant leak, blown head gasket, bad thermostat and/or radiator cap. Stalling and sluggish behavior could also mean crank or cam sensors, bad plugs, wires or coil. Unlikely, but possible that the torque conver is locked up and stalled the engine, bit that wouldn't explain the overheating. Also could have ran it without oil. Would explain the steam, weird sounds and piston knocking.

The mechanic said it was the head gasket. I got a second opinion and it turns out it was just the coolant return outlet -- $200, good as new. When you find a good mechanic, cherish them. Seriously, send them a Christmas card and invite them to your BBQs.
I believe a car has a chance to sound like this if one of its connecting bolts get loose and it starts vibrating alot. Both an engine and washing machine vibrate yknow
They're fine. A car engine can actually catch fire and not explode. It will just flame merrily for the ten or so minutes it takes the fire department to get there. Don't ask me how I know this.
