I love this video! I spent the first 30 years of my life in Lebanon. So many family and friends still there. And Shane, my mom also worked at Pittston during the strike of ‘89…and my dad was a Union coal minor on strike…interesting times for sure!

Yes, that Pittston strike left a huge impression on a lot of us. I’m thinking about doing a video about it soon. Thanks for watching this one and really glad you liked it.

I used to live outside of Lebanon in the country area known as "Spring City" (between Lebanon and Cleveland). Lebanon was my shopping area. I also lived in Burke's Garden, Virginia. These two places hold fond memories for me. I'm not in Virginia at present, but my heart is! It's beautiful in "my Virginia!"

Thank you for this wonderful video - lots of great memories. I was part of the CGI team that helped to establish the facility in Lebanon, and I have nothing but great appreciation for the welcome that the citizens of Russell County and Lebanon specifically gave to our team. Thanks again for sharing this view of your hometown.

Thank you both for a really happy and entertaining Video, looks a cool Town, love the Accents. I live in North Devon, Southwest Britain and most the local Folks hereabouts still speak with a good old Devon Accent, I fancy that some of the Folks who settled in Virginia back along must have come from round here. Keep safe.

I spent some of my childhood in Lebanon. My mom lived there till she passed away. My granny lived across from food city, she had an apple tree and rolling apples down her driveway was my entertainment till they built the bypass. Lebanon sure has grown. The three bridges on the bypass were built in Bristol VA at Carolina steel.it was the original food city before they moved it. Dollar general was originally a Roses. They built the McDonald’s is 1990 by the way. Used to be a trailer park where Hardee’s is and Taco Bell across from the old motel

Really enjoyed this one. Brought back a memory you will like. Growing up in the shadow of a cotton mill in Roanoke in a "shotgun" home we heated with a Warm Morning coal stove. We had a coal house out back and my job was to bring in coal every day. One of my childhood memories was when I was about nine and first saw Superman on TV. I got one of our big bath towels and made me a cape like Superman and thought if I jumped off the coal house I would fly. I didn't! Skip Salmon

Samuel Pressure Vessel is a company that builds (welds & fabricates) tanks (vessels.)
My ex husband has worked there for like 10+ years. They was in abingdon but moved there when that other business moved out. Which I can’t remember either. 😂

Also, my entire family was at the Pittston Coal Strike. My mom was in high school & skipped school to go protest 😂 I guess since my whole family mined coal & was affected.
Well - her loud mouth got her interviewed by a news station & lo & behold, my grandmother (her mom) seen the news 🤣 she got in trouble for skipping school. I also got footage of their friend getting thrown in a van to be hauled off to jail while struggling with police. 2 officers had to carry & throw her in the van. The way they was treated was God awful.

I grew up over the the mountain in Cleveland, which has a great deal of history itself, up the river. I went to the elementary on the river, the junior high on the hill and Lebanon High school that was up the hill from the Piggly Wiggly in town. Unfortunately my folks decided to move in the middle of my 10th grade year, so didn't get to finish as a Pioneer. I would visit my best friend in Lebanon and we would ride bikes from one end of Lebanon to the other. Great times! I remember going, if memory serves me right, to the Russell Coal Corp to get coal. And yes Shane, there are lyrics to the bonanza theme song, Loren Greene Sings it!!

Lebanon is my Grandmothers, and all her Siblings and their mother, my Great grandmother was all born & raised right there in town. Other side of the hill from slap town. Back then downtown had a piggly’ wiggly downtown. Years & years ago. The town has grown since back then. Most of the homes back then were shot gun shacks and or Big Annabella type homes. Old movie theater Dt to. Great grandmother was born in 1892, grandmother 1920. All them buried there up on a hill if the city hasn’t bulldozer down the grave sites. No tombstones really just a cross and all over the graves. Lots of historic things there.

Nice to see you all touring around such a pretty area that looks prosperious. This area, especially the road you started the video with looks like the drive on KY Rt9/The AA Highway out east of the Cincinnati area. Kind of makes me homesick. Between Dayton and Cincinnati, Ohio, we have a town named Lebanon and it's pronounced the same way you pronounce this town in SW Virginia. This is such a pretty area. Nice tour. The Old Mill Restaurant looked kind of neat. It's the kind of place I'd pull in to give it a try. Too bad it closed but at least it's gonna be replaced by a place you say is a good place to eat at, at another of their locations.

There was a Bonanza on the property of Dogpatch USA back in 1979 and 1980. It was probably the most rural area a chain steakhouse was ever built in. There was a Dogatch, AR Post Office also; it has since reverted to Marble Falls, AR, I believe.

Funny enough, my dad operated a heavy equipment parts business out of the building to the left of courthouse from around 1997-1999 called Heavy Tech. I was born in Belfast, where I lived until I was 10, at which point my family moved to Wise. I graduated high school from John I. Burton, graduated college from UVA Wise, and then moved to New York (in 2018) for an internship. I ended getting a great job after the internship, so I stayed in NY. I thoroughly enjoy y’all’s videos all the way up here in Valley Cottage, NY!
p.s.- For anyone from back home that wants to know, NY is a great place to establish a career, but it isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. It’s convenient having all kinds of amenities close, but that’s why the taxes are so high. They don’t know how to make cornbread up here (people make it like cake) and you can forget about soup beans, lol. I plan to move back south (probably to northern KY) in a couple years, to be closer to my family. There’s no place (and no where more peaceful) than the mountains.

FYI, the confederate statue was originally installed in the center of Rt19. It was moved in the 1930s due to traffic concerns. Nice that you did this video but it lacks any real history substance more than 10yrs.
No mention of the fire that burned down the Court House, or the fire that burned the School board building next to CH. Or how about the middle school, that used to be the high school, or was built as a women's college. The school campus was voted Most Beautiful multiple times. The Coal Corp coal tipple was torn down in the 90s.
