My love story - parallels to this started at 68 years of age - he was 72, connected online, we met, we both knew quickly, moved ahead and moved in together, Dec. 2019 - our virtual marriage was in the midst of Covid-19. We honeymoon for life. I showed him the movie - these clips helped me to explain to someone who is romantic, just isn't accustomed to this type of all encompassing love - he shows it, just has not connect with this film.... Yet. He has gotten "Love Actually" now, there is possibility this one will be sealed in his heart too. New love grows after our 88 years (combined former) marriages. So new so blessed.

Ahhhhhh !! Il Romanticismo della Belle Epoque, niente parolacce, niente volgarita', ma solo tanta dolcezza, rispetto, educazione, comprensione, e dialogo !!
A dire il vero siamo in piena epoca Edoardiana (primi 10 anni del 1900) e il romanzo da cui è stato tratto (e altri romanzi di Forster), tratta di repressione sessuale, forse non era poi così bello a quei tempi, specie per noi donne. Il film resta comunque un gioiellino. Rip Julian Sands!

Helena is absolutely beautiful in this movie
I wonder if Forester was feeling cynical about life when he wrote his epilogue to RWAV. Julian seemed to have a noble and chivalrous view of love and wanted a lady to devote himself to for the rest of his life like a knight in a storybook. He wanted her to have her own thoughts and feelings even when he held her in his arms. I think in a war zone, he would have letters and pictures of Lucy and children in his wallet to remind him he had something worthwhile to come home to if he survived and that (in addition to the two or three decades together where they weathered other hard times) would have motivated him to stay faithful to her.
