I agree with you. I always thought it was mainly because Robyn wanted Meri to commit fully to the "business" while she had Kody's babies so she would have an excuse to not work.
To not work was always her plan.

I think it’s all about keeping Meri down in any way she could.
Maybe there is something deeper like Robyn didn’t want Meri to get smarter or something. Didn’t Meri want to take psychology. Then Robyn wouldn’t be the in-house therapist. I don’t know, just a thought.

I would add that both Jenelle and Christine are college educated. If Meri also finished a degree or diploma, Robyn looks and feels like an underachiever. Robyn is petty.

This was before the catfish too. I wonder if Meri would have had been encouraged to complete college if she would have developed friends from college instead of seeking validation, support and friendship online. In any case, it was selfish for Robyn to not support her. Robyn is a leech.
Because she would get a life, make friends, learn more about how manipulated she is, possibly quit the show, and not be able to work for Robyn's business. Meri shipped all orders.
It could have been a tactic of just keeping Meri conditioned to stay all in .She couldn't get more educated.That would be bad for the cult mentality.

I agree. I also think it's about control. If Meri had gone to school, she might have pulled away from the family sooner and had more resources to do so. It's weird though because what were they keeping her in for? We know now Kody had cut her off, even back then. Robyn wasn't really letting her around the kids. So it's like they were trying to keep her in the family just for the sake of it?
Meri was being kept on the fringes of the Brown plural situation so Kody could keep her income but she was not really a part of the family & some sister wives did not like her & some of the kids have reason to feel she was abusive towards them either physically or mentally or both. She is completely out of the Browns. Janelle & Christine see each other as sisters with all the children they have together.
@@g.flesch9731 I agree and Robyn used this as a way to manipulate Meri, by giving her false hope and making false promises like the surrogate offer she never intended on doing and Kody would never let happen, Kody also takes Meri out for a concert and later a fancy dinner to work on her about the divorce, he does tell her just prior to it that nothing will change between them (he wasn't lying on that) and just like on the AZ trip that it could be a new beginning for them then after he gets the divorce they both ghost her not even allowing her to witness their courthouse wedding. She was really brainwashed.
@@mjc42701 I remember well when Meri & Kody & Robyn, for what reason except as a thorn in Meri's side, witnessed at the attorney's office as Kody & Meri (tearfully & with sorrow) signed off on their divorce. Kody did not even thank Meri for her SACRIFICE of granting him a divorce to marry (evil minded) Robyn. K& R did not invite any of the 3 wives to their "paper shuffle" wedding at city hall. Kody & Robyn were all dressed up & smiles for miles. Kody was stoked he had his true love (lust) fulfilled. It was quite the display. Kody was like a 22 year old groom with 3 wives, 12 kids & Christine's 6th pregnancy waiting in the wings. Than off to the honeymoon. Kody disgusts me & Robyn. Both of them are selfish monsters.

I see your point too. I first assumed she didn’t want the “family” to be used on Meri & not into Robyn’s family budget.
Robyn didn’t have school and felt inferior to those who had.
I have said this since it aired, to me it was so obvious she was Kody's favorite, she had the hair done all the time, the jewelry (Not SW closet stuff), the clothes, the designer handbags to match her different boss lady outfits, even though she came into the family, cap in hand, with over 30k debt, Kody hires a lawyer to help restore her credit and Janelle cashes in her 401k to pay Robyn's debts, then Kody tells the builders to build Robyn's home first even though they still had not submitted all of the paper work, mean while Janelle and Christine's homes are last on the list, Kody even asks Christine if she will take the extra money in her budget and give it towards his and Meri's home since it was over budget, then says he was joking, didn't sound that way, he never asked Robyn to give up anything and to date she still has never held a real job since courting Kody. So blatantly obvious that she was the one and only to Kody and didn't care if the OG 3 got anything, she expected them to work full time and then also work for My SW Closet, while she had a nanny and did nothing.
The Browns never discuss money but, word on the street is that their moves were prompted by their inability to pay debts especially the balloon payments on Vegas mortgages. The early episodes read poverty imo. Robin's master plan is centered around her demonstrating/feigning ultimate dedication to Kody. Until very recently, many fundamentalist sects viewed education as potentially disloyal through independent achievement and exposure to contravening ideas.
Yes, fundamentalist sects view education, beyond high school, as suspect. It will expose their kids to other opinions, ideas, progressive ideas, is anti-Christian, gives women the ideas of being other than a wife & mother, opens the possibility of sex before marriage. The very idea of knowledge & broadening your world is anti-Fundamentalism.
The cult sect mind-set is to limit the world to the exact religious ideas they want people to live by & to not give choices of the kids stepping outside the belief system. They want more babies to provide more followers. These are truly cults. Everything is viewed as black and white. And, the outside worldly ideas are bad & corrupting to their people.
IMO the Browns fled Las Vegas with the 4 nice homes in the cul-de-sac with the perfect environment for all the kids, because of some money issue. Maybe balloon payments on 4 mortgages. Whatever, besides Robyn's son going to college in Flagstaff, there was some other issue on Kody's plate. Another idea is that Kody got the equity of the 4 house sales in LV and with some of that money could buy Robyn her big house.
Plus, they bought property they cannot afford to develop which makes no financial sense. Chances are Kody Brown will lose the property or have to sell the land to make ends meet.
Hopefully Janelle & Meri get legal help so that if the Coyote property is sold they get money back that they put in. That does not count the money Kody got to buy the mansion for Robyn from Janelle & Meri. Hope to see Janelle get some of her money back so she can have a home for herself.
I think you’re right! Robyn is a very self centered person who only thinks of how others can serve her.
I think Meri was doing all the work! I would be surprised if Robin did anything but design!
Robyn designed - ugly. One episode she was walking around the house & shielding some piece of jewelry because it was a secret. She obviously did not know how to design jewelry. She needed an actual jewelry artist designer where Robyn gets approval of designs from a person who knows jewelry design. So another fail for Robyn, cannot design jewelry & too prideful to get help.
Gwen said Aurora and Breanna were doing the packaging later on.
Once they moved to AZ, they also didn't want Meri around during Covid even though she followed Robyn's crazy protocols.

Robin does not know how to do anything. She needed a workhorse….Meri
Robyn is too lazy to learn how to do anything.
Robin doesn’t like to work. She never has any aspirations to be anything but a stay at home mom. But she soon realized that everyone was expected to pull their weight to come capacity in this family and doing this “business “ was her way of pretending she was contributing. She assumed because the other women worked that they loved it and would work for her.
They where in Vegas when Meri started LLR. I have bought from her and no problem in shipping!
Of course she wanted Meri to continue do that grunt work! Later she has her daughters doing Meri's job according to Gwen.
Hmmm....good possible point about the money... That would be used . But ultimately Robyn is a mean selfish person. Meri is mean girl too

@@kristinesharp6286 that's true. Meri working for or with at risk youth. This could have beneficial for Kody finding a even younger wife through Meri .not saying that Meri would have done that. The possiblity is there. Remember Kody said it himself Meri was the bait. 🐛🎣

Robyn probably told Meri behind the scenes she would help her get back into Kodys good graces. I’m wondering if part of Meri’s disappointment about school helped fuel her loneliness making her an easy mark for the catfish.
Agree, that was the main thing to keep Meri as her worker bee so she could sit on her butt. I think it goes even further that she wanted to put & keep Meri in a position where her role in the family was to pick up & do everything that Robyn did not want to do. It's partly about limiting and diminishing Meri since Robyn in so insecure and needs to feel superior & partly about having an unpaid assistant so she could live her life of leisure.

Robyn wanted to be the “designer” and business owner, but didn’t want to do the work. I could also see a part of her not wanting to be the only non college educated wife. But that was way down after wanting a worker who couldn’t quit.

Again not surprised Meri did shipping & customer service for the Closet business. Robyn did what for her business? She is lazy & got the other wives to help out so she could give Kody another kid. Like Kody Brown needed an 18yt kid to add to his list. Kody's kids were a list. Sad to say but his behavior towards 13 of his kids proved he is not dad material. And that is very sad. Feel bad that innocent kids got burned by Kody's agenda.

Meri was in class when the catfish started. She ended up going for the spring semester.
Kody and Meri were the main drivers of storylines. Kody picked vacations, Meri was doing doctor appointments and B&B negotiations. I think Robyn knew she wasn't contributing to show drama and was happy to let Meri drive storylines. If Meri has school and carrer outside the family, then those storylines don't include Robyn who is making the same money as Meri.
I think Kody and Robyn are obsessed with keeping the show and the show is what drives many decisions.
Meri started Lularoe in December 2016.
I just rewatched. It was cause she would be outsiders and better herself and have more life choices and maybe leave. You can’t dress up polygamy. It was not to help with childcare she could not take the 4 year to see their sibling in Utah at college for a few days.
