The one thing you do that I tend to disagree with, is your choice of stopper knot. You use an overhand knot. I prefer a figure8 knot. It takes no more time to tie, but a better knot in my opinion. Anywhere an overhand can be used, a figure8 can. To each their own...

@@halkael2317 Also, the figure eight knot is larger so it is less likely to slip through whatever size hole you are "stoppering." And the figure eight knot is easier to untie than the overhand after the knots get wet and over-stretched. On the other hand, in his example of turning a slip knot into a jam knot, I believe the overhand is more secure, since the figure eight could capsize into another figure eight and "walk" off the end of the cord.
You have legitimately created the most user friendly video guide to tying knots i've seen. Even back to your original bowline videos. They truly are OUTSTANDING. thank you for taking the time to share. I know I have learned a lot from them.

you rock, Corporal! don't stop the simplicity! I love that you repeat the same knots in different videos IN CONTEXT so I a) learn the knot and b) understand the context in which it is used. For those of us who are spatially impaired, and have little to no experience, it is more helpful than any other survival channel out there for learning the basics and feeling confident. I think I've watched your "minimum shelter kit" video 50 times to learn the bowline, prussik, and trucker's hitch in context of putting up a basic shelter, LOL! there are lots of great channels on survival for those who already have the basics - so KISS works for both beginners to gain confidence and to remind experienced folks of the power of simplicity!
I agree, as an example take a lock set, there are those that have only a few tools - 2 Picks, 2 Rakes and 2 L shaped to push the lock open - which is all you really need to pick a lock, than at the high end, you have those that have say 100 tools to choose from. Me, I'll take the fewest number that I know how to use and under what conditions. The 3 knots you show are the basics you need to get started, from that add only those knots you feel will need and practice them in that situation. Thank you for a great video, as all your's are.

I was homeless for 6 years; and wish I had learned some of these knots, hitches and such, back then. Now, I have made it a mission to learn the most valuable knots; and eventually, I will teach them to other homeless people. I understand what you say about simplicity. When I would wrap my bedroll; I found a way to simply wrap (spiral several times) the two tag ends around the main lines, which caused a lot of friction to keep the tension, without having to rely on knots. Undoing the whole thing was very simple. I would squeeze the roll in order to remove the outward pressure and simply pull from the center or the beginning of the windings.
Something else that I can imagine would come in quite handy; is that palm wrap thing that you did in another video... keeping the cordage nice and tidy and instantly deployable, while remaining free of tangles as you unwind it. Brilliant!
I've watched a bunch of your videos and followed along using my own cordage; and what I've found is that you have an amazing gift for making things very simple and easy to understand. Thank you for that. It seems a rare thing.
For me, I've watched a ton of videos on different ways of tying the same knots and have learned multiple knots; because my aim has been to UNDERSTAND THE ESSENCE OF KNOT TYING. And I think I'm beginning to. That way; if you were to come across a situation you had never prepared for and had to get creative - understanding the ESSENCE of the different kinds of knots and how they function in different ways can give you a leg up in creating a viable solution. For instance... I noticed a similarity between the cow's hitch, the lark's head knot, the prusik knot, and the cat's paw. They all use the same basic movement; while the cat's paw adds a twist to both sides.
I watched a video on the Marlin Spike Hitch; where the guy gave something like 5 different knots that could be created from that one knot. One of those was the slip knot, another was the bowline. There again... it pays to understand the INNER WORKINGS OF KNOTS and how you can transform them to other knots. If you know the reason WHY something works; you can easily work out how to tie these same knots or new ones, or even ones that are better.
I’m glad that you are persistent, I am a 72 year old lady trying to learn these knots, I have been using the truckers knots for years and didn’t know that it had a name... I sit with a small green rope (which I know probably has a name) trying to do these knots! You are right though about keep your brain busy, thanks for what you do, have a blessed day
I keep a piece of cord about a foot long on the coffee table..good for practicing during commercial breaks...or while waiting for a new vid from the corporal..:) nice work!

Until last year I was not very much into camping or shelters or anything like that. I saw your videos because of the paracordknots/hitches I was interrested in. The way you showed how to tie the hitches is simply great! Because of your videos I am now able to set up a tarp in a very short amount of time. For me it was really helpful that you have shown your hitches not in a single video but in several videos where you set up a line. The repetition is the reason I've learned it. I appreciate the repetition and the simplicity of your system. I've watched a number of your videos and the repetition in them has allowed me to learn some of the knots without having to back up and re-watch the same video time and again. I'm excited to get out and try them. I've always been a tent person but I'm wanting to take my tarp out and play with it to utilize the quick-deploy ridgeline system I made modeled on what you do. Been fully furloughed for a month now due to covid 19. So needless to say its a challenge to fight the boredom. It’s a cold windy morning here in the Texas panhandle so outside activities aren’t a usual option. But i started watching your knots and lashes video, grabbed a piece of rope, and started learning the knots. It truly helped time go by easily and i found myself smiling and talking to you in the video. You never know just how a video will help someone out there. Thank you for helping this ol retired fireman with a passion for survival fight the boredom off till my hospital maintenance job returns. What you do is appreciated far more than you know...

my boat friend required that I tie at least 100 bolins a day L and R until I could do it automatically with either hand

When you do a running commentary on knots saying things like, “away from me”, “around the tree”, “back through the hole” etc it really helps explain what you’re doing but also how to remember the steps later on. I usually get your knots first time. Thanks!

Ha Ha! Thank you! Ive struggled trying to make a bow line and i amaze myself how many different ones i make and all different. Your version of the marlin made it finally simple for me. Im glad you repeat them because though simple for the experienced it is very complex and hard for me to learn unless i can get it down to memory mucle as you said.

You are absolutely right, I've studied the knots and lashes you use and I really don't see where I have need for many others although I do have an app on my phone that goes into some more different knots and lashes but some are very complicated and complicated sucks, I'm too old for all that. Muscle memory is so important! It was difficult for me to earn to tie my shoes in a different way (in order to make sure they would not come untied without a double knot -which still comes untied!) but now I know no other way! I intend to tie things over and over till I get to produce the correct knots every time.
Knots splices, hitches, and slings are very useful. I have found them so. As most people cant tie them. Its just practice really, you soon het the hang of it.
I served in the Royal Navy uk, and have found them very usefull, in both my naval service and out side the service.

The prussik that he showed is actually a modified one. More for mountaineering. A true prussik only loops around twice, not thrice.
