I love these two. Brad is straight up good folk. Lex is a rocker to her very soul.
You got that right they are awesome and she's definitely a rocker
R.I.P. Dusty Hill, mainly just the bass player , but once awhile he'll sing a song to two.
Two, to, too, Bishop Desmond Tutu, the Tutsi ethnicity, the Hutu ethnicity, wearing my tutu and playing my tuba.........
He was also Hank's embarrassing cousin.
@@sqidvishus Hank wasn't really into rock music. He was a member of Christian Youth for Christ as a teen. They "were good kids."
Damn underrated singer too.
He was a really good blues vocalist ... he fit ZZ perfectly
I think Lex is thinking about the old honky tonk bars with a mechanical bull...like Gilley's in Texas...
That place was enormous, accommodated 6,000 people. It was featured in John Travolta's "Urban Cowboy". It's a classic, great acting, great soundtrack.
BillyBobs
@@daviddow8150 Yup Ft Worth. That’s where I rode my first mechanical bull.
An old family legend says that way back in the day a cousin once busted Mickey Gilley in the mouth for banging his wife.
Also known as a Roadhouse. Been to Mickey Gilley's back in 1980, I was 18. Right after the movie Urban Cowboy was made there.
This is just good ole Texas boogie blues. ZZ Top are a Texas treasure. Billy Gibbons is such an amazing guitar player. Y'all should check out “Just got paid”....tasty song
Just got paid, just got paid, just got paid vote vote vote
Yes--And "Waitin' for the Bus"!!! 😊
and Jesus just left Chicago
Interesting thing about Billy's sound is, he uses the absolute thinnest, lightest gauge guitar strings you can fit to a guitar. He barely needs to touch the frets and strings and the guitar howls, so he needs very delicate control while at the same time keeping up a good, solid strum. Needless to say, he breaks strings all the time playing live.
RIP Billy you will be missed but your music will live on for generations to come
"I'm bad, I'm nationwide " is a gangster ZZ Top song.
The sound you’re noticing is called “slide,” produced by wearing a piece of tubing over the little finger of the left hand. The old Delta blues players used it a lot.
ZZ Top "That Little Ol' Band From Texas", were very good at finding a topic and a riff, and making it a song. Songs just like Tush.
"Honky Tonk" is the word your looking for Lex! And Yes it sure did rock every single Honky Tonk bar from Texas to both coasts! RIP Dusty!
Also perhaps "Saloon", or "Rodeo Bar".
"like when we were down in Texas." Yeah, Texas blues/rock doesn't sound like anything else. These boys live/d about a half mile from me down the Houston way. Ive helped offload all of their equipment a few times when they came off tour.
Hey, neighbor. I'm from just up the road outside of Conroe. Stuck in Arkansas right now. Tell Billy and Frank, "Howdy!"
@@stevefriery9086 Dusty lived in The Woodlands. I used to see his Hummer at Carraba's On I 45.
The songs of this era...those of us who vocalize along with...you didn't just know the lyrics....you memorized the guitar "vocalizations" too! This song is a perfect example!
He's playing with a slide which gives it the bluesy feel.
Alot of what we hear is the pick used. Peso's my friend!
You guys are the best. She is so right that the guitar is more immediate, and doesn’t go through 1 million filters in production. And I love that he is like “no man I don’t understand what you’re saying.“ It’s the best. You guys authentic af. Love it
I LOVE IT WHEN LEX SAYS "OH!" WHEN SHE FIRST HEARS THE MUSIC! Lex is such a sweet-heart! Brad's a lucky man!
Texas Blues at its raunchy rawness. R.I.P. Dusty 🤘😔🤘
That sound is most likely just a guitar plugged straight into a tube amp, cranked up and recorded with a microphone, so you can actually hear the tone and character of the guitar and amp, with little to no effects or signal processing. And as others have mentioned, a slide, which gives it that smooth and, well, slidy feel.
If you like blues, you gotta love rock ‘n’ roll, because rock ‘n’ roll’s roots is blues
The guitar was just over driven. One of the greatest guitarists of all time. His pick harmonics are off the chart… legend. Period!
Met these guys when I was a kid. They even went camping with us (my best friend's dad grew up with them). Had NO clue who they were lol!
That sound you're talking about is the old school distortion that was produced using the vacuum tubes in Marshall Amplifiers back in the 60's and 70's. It was a very organic, full bodied sound that sounds "alive" as you said, compared to modern guitar tones that rely on complex solid state electronics, which sound more artifical and precise.
That old school distortion is what you hear in Black Sabbath, Stevie Ray Vaughan, ZZ Top, Jimi Hendrix and all of the classic rock up through the mid 80's. The mid 80's ia where the electronic gear started to play a larger role in the guitar sound.
To add onto what you said, that sound would become referred to as Overdrive or Fuzz so as to differentiate it from the more mechanical Distortion.
Lex just never disappoints! Her attempts at sounds and parts... she makes me chuckle so much! "More raw than, like, a seamless techno... you know what I mean?" I can NOT stop laughing! I'm surprised I haven't seen an SNL skit on you two yet! And I'm not making fun, it's just funny. I understand "This Is Spinal Tap" and why that film is so hilarious. This is... similar! Girl, don't you ever change because it does bring joy to those who know people like you are not easily found. You're a treasure indeed!
Gotta love the 12 bar blues... One of my favorites from ZZ Top =) You need to react to Pearl Necklace next!
ZZ Top. Blue Jean Blues. Greatest song.
This song takes me back to running the back roads of Coosa County Alabama in a 69 mustang . Great times.
ZZ Top is an unparalleled band in any genre. They played music with only the 3 original members, for 51 years.
ZZ Top was my 2nd concert, I was around 16 years old, never smoked before, but had a contact high probably 2 songs in.
That type of bar used to be called a ‘honky tonk’. Going to see them in a couple weeks at a Oklahoma casino. Wish Dusty was still around
I was Lucky and caught their final show in Louisville. Dusty was a trooper, you could see he was not feeling good, so he mainly leaned on the amps and kept playing
@@Sportsref13 one to remember! Just doing at their age and his health shows the love
Back then every little country town in Texas had a dance hall with live music, they played a lot of them back in the day.. "Beer drinkers and hell raisers" describes it a bit. Most are long gone now, I haven't seen one of those old dance halls for years and years now. Used to go out to em regular back in the 70's as a young man.
Some of the most chunky, funky blues, rock, and soul you'll ever run into, east, west, north, and south of Texas.
ZZ Top is one of a kind. You wanna hear some great blues by them, check out "Fool for Your Stockings".
My favorite!
@@mikecreger9702 Mine too!
Yep. I like “I want to thank you” also.
The Lil ole band from Texas. ZZ Top are legends. RIP Mr. Dusty Hill.. Mr. Elwood is doing great on the live shows
RIP Dusty. Saw them a couple of weeks ago in Macon Ga. Even without Dusty, it was still a hell of a show.
Tulsa outside venue, 1975, saw them live. July, hot, beer, mud. Perfect
I saw these guys 5 times. Never disappointed. RIP Dusty
He’s so straight laced etc, she’s such a spirit.
This song was perfectly used in Dazed and Confused. I highly suggest watching it!
That's my auto-biography pretty much. It's amazing how well Richard Linklater captured the spirit of the late 70s.
@@deanroddey2881 My favorite Linklater film which is saying a lot. The older you get the more rules they are going to try and get you to follow. You just gotta keep on livin' man. L-I-V-I-N.
The entire soundtrack on that movie was great
Great song, and a fun reaction. These guys called themselves the biggest little band in the world.
It's called a "clean" guitar sound, with a little "overdrive". Awesome!
Organic sound lex. It's real and natural sounding, unlike overly processed computer generated effects. And that is beautifully put to use by Billy's emotional, expressive style of playing.
This is called Texas blues raw, and a true Texas treasure. Rock blues if you will. Love you guys y’all are fun 😊
The guitar sound you're thinking of is from distortion, often known as Fuzz, probably due to the pedal. I think he also uses a lot more overdrives than most people do.
The song was big on the radio when I was in high school around 1974 here in Texas. ZZ top was almost like God's to us teenagers. Frank, the drummer of the group grew up in a little town about 30 miles from where I lived.
Yeah, Honky Tonk bars in Tejas! ZZ Top/Billy Gibbons always had a very down-to-earth sound, with very few more dreamy exceptions, like Blue Jean Blues or Asleep in the Desert. And then the 80's happened 😃
A Texas saloon is often referred to as a honky-tonk. The oldest one is Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, TX about five minutes from me. They do not have a mechanical bull, but ZZ Top has performed there.
ZZ Top one of a kind and very proud to say from Texas. Fun fact, the only member that does not have the long ZZ top beard is the drummer and his name is Frank Beard. Keep up the AMAZING work you two, and Peace and Love from Texas...
There is a documentary about ZZ Top called "That Little 'Ol Band From Texas" that you have to watch. It's about the formation of the band until present day really. It a story about a band that actually got along. (Also, given the recent death of bassist Dusty Hill its a good time to watch about this great band.)
Billy Gibbons is one of the all-time great guitarist, and they talk about it in that show. (Also how they opened for Jimi Hendrix.) Oh they did address Billy's unique guitar sound that Lex picked up on. He didn't start off with that sound, but their recording guy made Billy do some things and he liked it and now he has that sound. (I think it was something about turning his guitar a half pitch lower or something.)
They also have information on how they got their infamous beards (and the irony of the fact that drummer Frank Beard is the only one without the beard).
According to Billy Gibbons "tush" in this song is an expression in Texas that means deluxe, luxury, lavish. The pronunciation apparently leans more toward rhyming with "rush" than with "push."
Of course, it's possible that ol' Reverend Billy could be laying some bullshit on us (as many musicians like to do, especially when talking about the meaning of their songs). It could also be intended as a double entendre, which only Texans (and maybe other Southerners) would get. In any case, I don't think they mind that most people think Dusty was looking for a piece of ass.
I think he said its slang among gearheads where he's from.
Primo- High quality
Plush- Decent quality
Tush- Low quality
So lookin for some tush just means he's just looking to fuck any chick, he doesn't care if she pretty.
Analog for cush. Luxury. High end.
Tush means ass, he was looking to get laid.
Yeah ........We read the liner notes on the "Greatest Hits" album too........
"Cheap Sunglasses" is one of my favorites!
One of my favorite songs. It's a great rock jam. Light hearted fun. I don't ever want it to end.
Got to see ZZTop in LaGrange TX. What a great time!
Beer Drinkers, Hell Raisers is a good one ✌️
Best 2 second guitar intro every
"Raw" guitar? It's basically electronic distortion. Sometimes referred to as "crunchy." And Lex... you are just flat-out adorable!
the guitar tone is raw af. you can hear the small details like the pick hitting the strings. just pure tube distortion on some bouncy thick strings. love ZZ Top. to top it all off, I'll be in Dallas, Texas all next week for my mom's bday!
A '59 Les Paul gold top with a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates.
@@justaguy214 yes, i was gonna say something like that but didn't want to get too technical 😁
@@bigtexyogz I'm actually a drummer moreso but I've been playing guitar since 1987 (4 yrs old) and I'm meticulous about the technical stuff and I liked to know the specs of my favorite artists. Sorry if I came off snobby.
I'm pretty sure he was using a hot rodded Marshall Plexi Lead as well.
@@justaguy214 nah man, u good. i've been playing since 1992 and i love to geek out about stuff like this. i have an epiphone standard with parallel axis and pearly gates HB, and i also have both setup with split coil for extra variety. i also have a black Mexican Fender that i like to call the 'blaxican' :)
Love this "heavy blues" style! 😍 Another song with that "heavy blues" sound is imho for example "Night Prowler" by AC/DC.
Pretty sure this was Billy's LP "Pearly Gates" through a Fender Tweed, those amps have a very acoustic nature to them. Probably Tweed Deluxe, like Neil Young uses.
Tush makes the world go round...
Some bad ass blues rock from some masters
To stay on topic, try “Tube Snake Boogie” by ZZ Top.
And Pearl Necklace
Yessss! Both thinly veiled sex references 🤣
Yes thats a great song, Brad, it will make you laugh.
ZZ Top were probably the best band I ever saw in concert. Simple and really really good. They always had great lead in bands.
The Duster at one of his finest walking bass lines, galloping bass and slide guitar so good you could cook on it!! RIP Dusty Hill we miss you in Texas ......
When this song was made they were just practicing and Dusty just went up and started singing what ever was on his mind! He would always joke there wasn't much going on up there! That he wasn't no Bob Dylan!!! RIP Dusty!!!
She’s talking about hearing real music how you can feel the human aspect of the sounds. They almost come to life
Best concerts ever! Saw them five times.
Billy Gibbon is so cool ice cubes fall out of his pockets when he walks.
This classic groove is called a "Shuffle." You could do a whole live-stream of shuffles.

There has been a hundred songs written using the same chords. But this is a cute clean use of the chords.
That sound your hearing Lex is that twangy southern guitar sound with no effects and gimmicks, just loud n proud
Waitin' for thr Bus/Jesus Just Left Chicago is one of the best songs ever! ZZ Top has so many great songs.
This is early ZZ right here. They evolved a bit in the 80's. Still were bluesy, but adapted a little more hard rock. Sleeping Bag will blow your minds. 😉
Great song.
cheap sunglasses is another awesome song from zz top
Billy Gibbons would actually dentures his guitar to make that unmistakable beautiful sound.
Another great one from the 70's. You guys are rockin'.
He played guitar with Hendrix. Classic stuff
Billy Gibbons on vocals and slide guitar
We played this for a HIghschool talent show. Thney made us change the lyrics to :I'm just lookin for some lunch" 🤣
Such a BIG awesome rabbit hole to go down! ZZ Top is one of the greats! 💙🎸🎼✌️
Classic tune, RIP Dusty Hill, Bass player, and yeah Billy is a real raw guitarist with some groove 😎
Les paul with pearly gate pickups thru a overdriven marshall. Straight magic
What I love about this is it's simply good old toe tapping rock n roll!!
🎸🎛🥁🎤🎶
ZZ Top ... Waitin' for the Bus & Jesus just left Chicago !!!
This song was written spontaneously during sound check before a show in beautiful Florence, Alabama at Norton Auditorium at the University of North Alabama in the mid 1970s. One of their best "lightning in a bottle" numbers according to Billy Gibbons. ~~ ZZ Top have been playing Texas blues for 50 years now.
"Mmm, ya, baby. I'll take me some of that Texas-fried rock, a large fry, large orange drink, and a basket of that tush. To go, pleez."
"Bowlin ball. Throw the bowlin ball."
The singer was the bass player, Dusty Hill.
Because the song was so short they always played it twice in a row in concert.
ZZ Top, "sure got cold when the rain fell".... "Mexican Blackbird"..... "Beer drinkers, Hell raisers".
Fool For Your Stockings, I'm Bad I'm Nation Wide, Cheap Sun Glasses, Legs, Manic Mechanic. Oh, and about 100 other awesome songs.
The ending had a clean guitar tone and the riff was like from the 50's but the rest had distortion texas blues rock.
This band had a board that had been a part of the house where Muddy Waters was raised. They took the wood, turned it into a guitar, and donated it to some museum.
Billy Gibbons does get a pretty organic distortion sound from his amplifier most of the time.
“A certain type of bar…”
Honkey Tonk bar is what you’re lookin for
Classic song. Classic reaction. Thanks Brad and Lex.
I love the word "tush." It can be innocent, as in "that baby has the cutest little tush." Or ZZ Top, "I'm just looking for some tush"... and that tush, that perfect tush, is different for everyone... but you know it when you see it.
I believe what you're looking for is Honkey Tonk. That's the kind of bar that you'll find the mechanical bull. There was a 1980 movie called Urban Cowboy that centered around mechanical bull riding. I grew up just outside of Chicago and we had bars with these things. It was a fad.
Billy plays with heavy brass strings I think. It gives a richer sound but you can hear the squeak of the chord position changes. Buzzes too. I think that's what you all are hearing.
The “little band from Texas”...love “Legs”, “Sharp Dressed Man”, and “La Grange” by ZZ Top
Billy used a slide thru most of the song. It's a metal tube placed on one of his fingers, used to glide on the strings. Very cool stuff.
Brads reaction and face is EVERYTHING in this one! Great song. Anything they used for the Dazed & Confused soundtrack y’all should play!
ZZ Top is a Texas band! That is some distortion on the guitar. They can make so many sounds.
My favorite band of all time.
“The human-ness” Yes!!
Gotta love raw music.
I was really hoping for some detailed lyrical analysis from Brad. I really need his insight amd breakdown of this song.
