Accidentally Epic Kinetic Sculpture

- I accidentally created my favorite sculpture so far 🤷♀️
•••
This originally started as a test print for the larger ball shooting sculpture I’ve been working on. I wanted to test the method for mounting the tracks to the wall.
•••
That simple task morphed quickly and became this kinetic sculpture, which might be my favourite thing I’ve created so far! Something about the combination of a little ball action mixed in with some chaos and unpredictability just works for me.

It’s all fun in games until you hear the click for the 500th time and wanna rip it off the wall
*quietly turns off power and slowly puts back on wall*
I was thinking the same lol at first i thought relaxing but after haha 😂
why... wouldnt u just turn it tf off.....
Use a rubber ball
I’d still be okay with it, I’d probably leave it on all the time. Actually.
Brilliant.
This design is a stepping stone for ever greater things.
I can feel it in my bones.
We shall see!
It’s a spinning piece of plastic hitting a ball? I mean, it’s a cool little gimmick but stepping stone for ever greater things?
@@Engineezy call it stepping stone, if you think about it. It's just like a stone stepping in water. The only difference is that there is no water and it's infinite.
Name idea inspired by VSPA TMX
@@user-mu5sl4vh7m I mean to be fair this isn't an innovation, but the idea could lead to other ideas. Like we used to use rocks which weren't very cool in and of themselves but we eventually got to where we are today.
@@bubberducky3060 still can’t quite see how an amusing little contraption will lead to the second industrial revolution
If you adjust the timing a bit you could keep on adding energy to the ball
Maybe possible! But it's a sort of chaotic system which would be really hard to tune perfectly
I thought about using hidden electromagnets and a ball with something metallic inside to achieve this tunning
@@Engineezy I don’t think it is chaotic…
@@Strongelite well you're wrong, the real world has slop tolerance and play and is generally chaotic
Even before you asked, the first thing that shot into my brain 🧠 was Kinetic Kickball.
Love that! On the list :)
@@Engineezy nah may man that's a real life ayatan sculpture
I like that name
@@Engineezy director
The catless. All I can think is a cat playing with a ball toy.
Name: "Too loud to turn on for more than a few seconds."
Not untrue 😅
Rubber ball, speed controlled stepper with tmc driver out of the question? Def be less loud and still awesome.
You can calculate the diameter. Speed, etc. so you can get it to turn perfectly every single time and use some AI with a sensor if you want it to adjust for any random issues and still nail it every time
You don't need AI to time hitting a ball Everytime. A little programming and some cheap sensors is all you need.
@@Wheresmy240 yes
Yup! Or a camera would be cool
You know. You can just straight up say that you had invented the first randomized second ls counter
Nah it's not randomised because the leg thing always kicks at the same time
I love this so much. Also I'm convinced it would make a great cat toy, mounted at floor level.
Hahah very true!
We are literally watching how JBV is creating his life with these videos! Incredible. I see schools as a great target - sell access to school districts to these files and create some basic print outs for them to make some classes in. Of course the speciality classes, not math or English.
Thanks Jessica! Love where your head is at!
Hit and miss kinetic kicker
Reminds me of an old hit and miss farm diesel engine!
This guy is a huge fan of spheres and circles.
I'm so proud of you making it into the UA-cam Shorts and 3D Printing community, Mr. Jerry Seinfeld
What's the deal with that?!
You should paint the gyrating part like a leg with little soccer cleat and paint the ball like a soccer ball. Call it the perpetual punter.
*The Ball Flicker* Its what I call my finger too for when I have a scratch.
The Flick clock wheel
Because its like a hand flick and sounds like a clock
So satisfying ngl
I love all of your projects JBV
So simple yet so satisfying
Agreed!
It is time to support our new inventors out there 😆😆😆 artist and science together are a great combo
Thanks Derpy!
The wackawheel
Needs a little foam or something on the edge where the kick collides to reduce sound
Ballslapper has to be the name
Idea: attach a clock component to the center with hands in front of the thing. Then make your machine the alarm clock thing. When the arm hits on the bottom, make that stop acoustically interesting or the ball have a bell or something to make it more alarm-like. No idea how you do this, but it would be sweet.
Love where your head it at!
If you can make it hit forever, it will be the best thing ever
Definitely possible with some tuning!
We should call it the clock cause it looks and sounds like one
Wow, such a kicker
My neighbors though the thin walls love it!!
😂
why does it look so hecking clean though
That white filament and low sampling rate combination 👌
Simply. The ball kicker.
I dont know but I like it so satisfying to see in action
“There are no accidents.”
Charlie Brown I guess, idk.
it looks like one of those free-fire motors from the old days
The name of that gorgeous invention should be the ball slapper
Maybe put some rubber on the striker. Hearing that repetitively would get old really fast 🤷🏿♂️
The 360 kickflip.
It just came out of my head either way it's so satisfying to watch.
Does have skate vibe to it!
The Ball Flick
Call it the kicker! It seemingly kicks the ball! I wish it were silent though!
I think it would be cool if the ball accelerated more and more. maybe you can take another ball that is heavier?
but that's pretty cool :)
Its possible! Thanks :)
I just. I love the sound!
“Lemme know what you guys wanna name this thing”
My mind: Spinning balls
Ball slapper
@@curb9254 oooohh yeah i didnt think of that much bettah
U r underrated bro... Hope ur get's the attention that it deserves.
Thanks brother!
If you get the radii and the fulcrum length optimal with the contact slot you can get it successfully dialled into a specific frequency and rpm values.
I'd call it "the kicker" because it looks like a leg kicking a soccer ball when it flicks
Hook it up to an Arduino as the switch. You can have it so it acts as a clock, flipping on the hour(1x for 1o’clock, 2x for 2o’clock, etc.)
You can also have a basic switch for on demand flips
you can even be fancy:
While(switch flipped)
{do 1 flip}
That way it stays “in line” with the same resting position.
I'm thinking the same thing!
The kicker. Also, imagine if you programmed it to go off every hour...
This can be done! Cheers 👊
The printer: wheres my Credit?
Call it the Kinetic Clock
I think a cool name could be the kinetic clock since it kinda looks like a clock with the arms hitting the ball
it looks like a clock people would stare at trying to figure out the time lol
It's like a pinball clock!
So you basically created a mantis punching mechanism
The ball knocker.
The ball tickler
Add a light around it and a glow in the dark ball
The ultimate ball slapper
Name suggestion:
The Ball Fondler
You should turn it into a clock and use the ball being hit as a metronome
The "ball slaper"
Add it to a thick glass box so it’s not so loud
The roundhouse kicker
Reminds me of a Mantis Shrimp because of how hard they "kick". Could call it a Mantis Clock or something like that.
Nice! Those things are gnarly 😳
The Kinetic Overclock
"The loud thing with the ball inside"
Very literal, love it!
Now you make bets with your friends when you have a drinking party about how many times the ball will get hit before it loses momentum/stops
You should call it “steams arm” because it looks like the steam logo and also looks like an arm that a robot would have
Kinetic kicker is a decent name
OMG, you put a base on that so it can sit on the floor then cover over the middle mechanism and this would make an AMAZING cat toy! =D
Lolz!
That's super cool but that sound would drive me nuts if it was left running
Haha this is true!
This is very very satisfying, it should be named kickler because it makes a click sound and it kicks the ball idk
So satisfying eh!
Business Cat: "Hello, I represent a board of very interested investors that would like to make you an offer."
😂😂
I would call it banger
If it didn't make so much noise, it would be a cool house item
Working on a quieter version!
The Knockem Circle
I can't unsee the steam logo
'Harvey Wall (Ball) Banger'
[Based on the beverage...]
Roly-doly idk why I think it fits
The ball Circular roundabout 😂😵💫
That there is one genuine Thwacker.
Like the singing wall bass, sooner or later someone's going to smash it.
It would be pretty cool if you could get that thing in a sort of a timing set up so it would go around once a second and then have another one that went around really slow obviously at once a minute and then have another set up that would just either drop or shoot a ball once an hour call it the obnoxious Clock
Pretty sure ya would go crazy with the toc toc toc noise in less than two hours
I think we should call it... Kinneticut
That button, longer than the others: yes
The big blue ball wacker!
When time is slowed down in 'Prince of Persia Warrior Within', in the mechanical tower, I hear this exact sound
The clockwork pony! Cause lowkey sounds like a horse hoof
Very true!
It would be awesome if you could mess around with the weight of the ball or timing of the hammer and perfect it if that's possible.
Maybe add a damper, and time it to bat once per second like a clock.
Call it the smacker
The ball slapper....for kicks
THE ball KNOCKER
Goalie kicker
Obviously it should be called “Ball Kicker”
Tbh, there's a restaurant in South Africa that had that exact design and use in the children play area
When you want the annoying sound of small children after they’ve moved out of the house.
I feel like this could be made into an actual perpetuum mobile
Very cool thank you for sharing. I'm just a fan of your work and 3d printing, so I don't even know how hard that had to be.
Thank you!
This is dope.
This is great!
Thank you!
It should be called a "Clock-Shot"
