I'm one of these fools who still hasn't rewatched it to reassess what I think about it and thus still have a positive experience the one time I watched it, but yeah, dunking on To Boldly Flee is always funny.

No Winston is doubly wrong since he's pretty much only Ghostbuster actor who's consistently willing or able to show up for random Ghostbuster related works. Whether it be meet and greets or the Stern Pinball Machine.
As long as there's a steady paycheck he'll cameo for anything.

The door opening animation is very similar to the one in Luigi Mansion, and It gets even more weirder considering the Ghostbuster characters redesign looks more like Mario

It absolutely sucks that Winston was being excluded from Ghostbusters stuff *this* late, especially considering Ernie Hudson’s attachment to the franchise (heck, he even contributed voice work to Stern’s pinball machine based on the first two films, that’s dedication). At least he’s not “the driver” in this game?
What's weirder still is the his character I believe was included or at least shown in that video from the Ghostbusters extreme pachinko from 9 years earlier. It's almost like they were trying to stay consistent with the crap they've been doing for years and just kept cutting him out of the original Ghostbusters cast. Japan has the weirdest most inconsistent racism.
It's like the game adaptations of the first two films where the devs omit him just to be racist.

Even the Sega Genesis game that was also made in Japan excluded Winston.

So tired of Winston being slighted. They include worthless Slimer, but exclude Winston?! 😠
It's like Slimer somehow became a Ghostbuster, and Winston got demoted to a supporting character like Janine or Louis.
Slimer, as in the series mascot and roughly a quarter of the merchandising? I'm sure he'd be seen as a bigger priority than all four of the original Ghostbusters combined. I'm surprised this thing isn't all just chibi Slimer and Stay Puft dancing around the entire time. But yeah, Winston being omitted is inexcusable, but sadly a recurring thing with video games. It's like just because he comes in later in the movie than the three others, and has the somehow unforgivable crime of NOT being Eddie Murphy, he somehow doesn't count.
I can't imagine anyone else doing Winston Zeddemore. My mom took us to see Ghostbusters I a total of 4x in 1984. Ernie Hudson was perfect for the role. It would have been scary breath of air to take the constant focus off Slimenstein and maybe feature Zuul or Vinz-Clortho. Nope they wanted to make it a cartoon for babies. 🙄

The Ghostbusters without Winston feels off. It's bad enough that he was downgraded to the driver in the cartoon and barely present in the sequel, but being excluded in a Pachinko game is way worst.

Maybe the reason Winston is excluded is because Japanese animators know they can't draw black people without it looking racist so they left him out to be on the safe side.

I've lived in Japan for 15 years, next to loads of Pachinko places, but I had no idea that this was around! Will have to look around some older ones. Unique ones often stay around for decades. Fingers crossed!

Yep. I kinda understand it with some of the earlier promo stuff of the first film even though it still annoys but 2010? That's like 26 years they've had to catch up with everyone else to acknowledge Winston is just as important and iconic as Ray, Egon and Peter. I just bought his Afterlife action figure the other day even though I said I wasn't gonna buy any GB merch (even though I love the Afterlife movie I just can't afford to get addicted to another range of figures and that Phoebe/Egon double pack is EXPENSIVE to find now) but because my friend got me an Ernie Hudson Cameo vid for christmas and it was amazing having him in his Zeddemore overalls saying my name and making references to the movie. I love all four of the GB guys but Hudson always seemed the most down to earth and easy going. He just seems to really enjoy himself and be a cool guy and loves interacting with the fanbase. So yeah after that video I had to have his action figure on my shelf even if it's just the one piece of GB merch I have there to represent my love for the franchise in general. :)

It's pretty cool that they made some pachinko machines based on Ghostbusters, including one for "Extreme Ghostbusters." Cutting Winston out of this game, however, is just sad and stupid.

you’d be surprised by how many pachinko machines were made with both American and Japanese IPs, some were episodes made in PMs like Kaiji’s Mahjong of Doom Arc from the manga.
Even Dastardly and Muttley of Wacky Racers got a Go Hawaiian OVA type machine

There are pachinko parlors that have a "separate" business next door that sells groceries or other practical things in exchange for pachinko balls, so it's literally being touted as a semi-viable way to make a living, and not just buy impractical or luxury items. I'm sure the exchange rate is VERY fair, like all gambling.

As far as I understand it, Pachislot is almost entirely just you sitting there feeding the machine money and all this crazy shit will happen by chance rather than you doing anything. I think usually you can direct the way the balls enter the machine to either left or right, but that doesn't guarantee where they go. The balls barely even bounce around like actual pachinko.
Your facial expressions are always the best when I see random clips or videos making fun of those terrible, terrible movies.

@@ExplorerDS6789 Definitely. Japan is a VERY ethnocentric country. Culturally they do not like associating with anyone whose not ethnically Japanese. Their population is like 98% ethnically Japanese, by design.
White Westerners are the exception as far as what Japanese standards of aestethic beauty is concerned, however. Everything else is unpleasant to look at to them. Because it doesn't fit their ethnic standard or their ideal beauty standard.
It's just most obvious with black people because they're basically nonexistant in Japan.
This is a culture that saw nothing wrong with the designs of Jinx or Mr. Popo until westerners complained.
Yeah i'm just gonna say, design wise i love some of hte cgi cinematics and if it was used for a children's tv show OR a video game for kids i would love it, but since its used for gambling it feels like a waste of effort or a effort to lure kids into pachinko machines because "Cute characters"

These things are sooo weird. sadly, good footage - or emulators - are impossible to find for most. I once hunted down Devilman Lady footage because they have a pachinko machine of that anime too, using new CGI footage of the monsters. They are super confusing with all these lights and sounds and plastic stuff that pops up, I assume not really made for home use but for "casinos". Odd, did not know Japan forbids gambling, that explains these.

Well with this... I mean, it's Japan. It's the sad truth about Japan. The Japan you see in the really good animes & mangas is what some maganka WANT Japan to be: A country that actually respects all races & cultures. Unfortunately, because of the crazy amount of isolation the country has been doing to themselves, it's still a bit of an issue, even with the whole exposure of SOME parts of American culture that shaped anime.

3:30 Well everything on Extreme Ghostbusters seemed to be out months or years after the show ended including the video games. Including that out Door Live stage show at Universal Studios Floridia that had nothing to do with the series at all. Seeing that live was rather confusing experience.
Honestly, when i first saw these designs, I thought about the arcade game, which I guess was also based on the Real Ghostbusters. But those were all generic designs. Still, I think it's too much of a coincidence that this uses those same shades of Orange, Blue, and Yellow to not be a reference to the arcade game.
I've only played pachinko games virtually (i.e. briefly in the Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku games) but if you don't know what to expect you will quickly realize that despite those games throwing a lot of modes and flashy shit at you, you really don't do much that constitutes "gameplay". You largely just control the direction of the balls (which is part of what makes it "not gambling; can't get mad!").

I don't understand the removal of Winston. I mean, I would get it (not like it either, but get it) if this was China, as they're notorious for doing this, but Japan? I never heard about them doing it. Then again, the official american cartoon ended up relegating him to driver, so.
It's a real shame. Ernie Hudson has always given me the impression to be the nicest guy of the group, and he's been getting the short end of the stick since the first film, when they cut down his whole backstory.
I think it's simply because Ernie Hudson wasn't one of the "lead" actors (e.g., he's not on the original movie's poster). This isn't the first time Winston's been left out of a game, though. It's possible that people making some of these games just didn't think Winston was important enough of a character to pay for additional likeness rights fees.
The old computer game made by Activision's David Crane also left out Winston. (Although technically this game has you running your own Ghostbusers franchise so the three white Ghostbusters shown in the game might not be the guys from the movie at all. But the game roughly follows the plot of the movie.) There is an episode of a show called Computer Chronicles that you can find on UA-cam where he talks about his then new game. It started out as some other game and was modified to be a Ghostbusters game. I'm not sure if David Crane had even seen the movie, though. E.g., the building that Dana lives in is referred to as the "ZUUL" building rather than "Gozer".
There was a Data East Real Ghostbusters arcade game that left out Winston. This was a modified version of a Japanese game with the Ghostbusters license added to it.
The Sega Genesis / Mega Drive Ghostbusters game also leaves out Winston. It takes place after the events of the first movie so I don't know why Winston isn't there.
Disproving the Winston was excluded due to Japanese people being racist theory:
The Japanese developed New Ghostbusters II game (for Nintendo systems) DID include Winston. ("New" is in the title because other countries had different games based on that movie. Don't know if those versions have Winston or not.)
In the clip of the Extreme Ghostbusters Pachinko game shown in this video, Roland is present. (It's really weird that a children's cartoon was the basis for a pachinko game.)

I hate it when you have a franchise you love that now a days you can only see in Pachinko form. It’s definitely not the case with Ghostbusters but it happens. There is a late 70’s early 80’s wrestling anime called Kinnikuman that as of now is only really around in pachinko form. The sad part is the pachinko animation is actually super good.

Yeah, that seems to happen a lot, unfortunately. I think they're still making Kinnikuman manga, though. The Kinnikuman II Sei anime is a weird case where it was more popular in the US (as Ultimate Muscle) than it was in Japan. After it was cancelled in Japan additional episodes were animated for Fox Kids' version, which were eventually imported back into Japan.
With all the myriad of Slimers, they should really have called Buster's Rush Slimer's Rush.
