These were true comedy shows as they never required dirty themes or words to be funny, they could be even funnier by keeping it clean!

I agree, I'm 70 and grew up with this show. Dick Van Dyke is a national treasure, Everyone was so good usually on this show. The writing was so original and crisp.
This is truly my comfort show, I grew up with this constantly on in the house. I can tell you what the episode is about from the title and I come back to it anytime I need a pick me up
I watch this from beginning to end twice a year. Now I have been falling asleep to this with my phone under my pillow and listening to it. I can picture everything as I hear them. Hope to dream to be in an episode one day lol.
Me too as they are playing on the iPad on the kitchen table. I can control UA-cam from my smartwatch laying in bed. When I want to go to go to sleep I just turn it off from my watch. Well that smartwatch. I have three of them.

I was feeling a bit down until this show came up and I watched it. The show lifted my spirits. We need to somehow find this kind of entertainment again for all of our sakes.
I especially liked the episodes where Richard Deacon, as Mel Cooley, was given the opportunity to dance. Once or twice with MTM, and a Christmas show or two, and once in a dream sequence where Rob has to decide between seeing Richie in a school play, or flying to Washington as a talent scout for Alan Brady. Mr. Deacon was adorable in all of those episodes.
One of the best episodes ever. I really enjoyed this one, and loved seeing the softer side of Buddy. Even Buddy had a heart for Mel. This was an episode with a "good example" towards others. 👏👏👏👏👏☆☆☆☆☆

In the later seasons, her hair was completely different because the hairstyles were completely different. I meant to say "whatever was-" not "whatever she."
Carl Reiner wasn’t just a great comedy writer and producer, but a phenomenal actor as well. Did he ever do any dramatic roles? He could’ve excelled at that type of acting as well just like he did at comedic acting.

Producers like Carl Reiner changed. He produced The New Dick van Dyke Show in the early 70s. Similar to this. Reiner wrote an episode where the preteen daughter walked in her parents having sex. CBS said not on our network and not with Dick van Dyke and Hope Lang and NOT in the family hour. Reiner got mad and quit. The show limped on for a few more months. Reiner next appeared writing and producing Steve Martin sex farces like The Jerk, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid and The Man With Two Brains. IOW the talent no longer wanted to do these shows, despite millions still watching them in syndication.

Rob Petrie was the buffer between the writers, the producer and Alan Brady's ego. He knew how to "handle" the ego of Alan, while defending Mel's value. Very diplomatic! I grew up with this show!! I'm getting more out of it now, heehee, (I was pretty small back then).

In the 50s he was in a Disney film that showcased Annette Funicello, he played Mr. Whipple in an episode of the Twilight Zone ("The Brain Center at Whipple's") and he played Fred Rutherford (Lumpy's father) in Leave It To Beaver. Look him up on a search engine and you'll get an idea of how many shows and films he played in both before and after Dick Van Dyke. He was easy to work with and even wrote some of the insults Buddy said to him in the Dick Van Dyke Show.
Alan Brady may be the biggest weasel ever, I've always hated how he treats Mel. With Buddy insulting him it's more fun and games, but to have a boss treating you like that would be torture
