I ask Ron why he uses Mastercam - and some more MultiAxis toolpaths in the video too!

Great videos. I model all my jigs and fixtures in Mastercam. Works great. As far as programming, I'm so far behind because I'm so rushed at work to get jobs done that I don't have time to up my programming skills. I guess I'll have get on board since I'm getting a 5 axis mill in the new year. (Haas VM-2 with TRT160). I've actually quit programming from wireframe and going from solid.

Find 1/2hr a day to put into learning. Within a month you'll be faster than what you would have been, making yourself more efficient. If you have a bulldozer but don't know how to use it, would you keep using the shovel :)

@@CamInstructor LOL! Absolutely true, I’d figure out a way to use the bulldozer. Thanks

Wow....all this for free!!? As a machinist, I really appreciate the time and effort you have put into these videos. The quality of the presentation and content is great. I work in a prototyping shop at a university, and am relatively new to the multi-axis world. It's been a steep and at times frustrating learning curve, but It's encouraging to see that even the seasoned pros learn by 'messing around' as I have been doing. There is a lot of value in the perspective gained by looking at someone else's programming methods.
Thanks for sharing Ron & Mike!

Glad you are getting use of these videos. It is a lot of work to put these videos out on top of our regular content. Hearing positive feedback helps make that work a little easier.

I think there is a market for more deep dives into advanced stuff. It's one thing to say "just go in and experiment" but it is just as valuable to hear an experienced programmer's insights into different variables in each toolpath since we all know corporate isn't always the best at naming a lot of these options, so there's lots of little checkboxes around with uses that may not be apparent, even after experimenting with them.

This was a 2hr session and I think he covered quite a bit. Those toolpaths have so many settings, digging entirely through one toolpath would probably take more than 2 hrs. If you want to see more on this part or ask some questions, make sure you sign up for our BIG EVENT coming in February. Its a one day virtual CAM Conference. Ron will be presenting...this is still not officially announced yet...and there will be a Question and Answer period you may find useful. Oh, its FREE to attend. I will be posting more about this soon.

@@CamInstructor I am just saying, I would buy an "advanced 5 axis" book if you were to make one.

Lots of great tips in this series by Ron. When doing 5 axis toolpaths don't apply collision checking until you get the motion you want first, Ron touches on this when he mentions he makes a course/ big step over toolpath and not trying to fully finish the part. Also when making changes while learning, only make one change at a time. Making multiple changes will lead to frustration on what each change actually does on the toolpath (easier to see one at a time). Great work Ron and Mike!

@@haford2 Those coarse stepovers are very helpful when troubleshooting! I've also found that opening up the toolpath tolerances at first speeds the processing time greatly!

Ron I'll be sending you an email to help program some of our programs or make them more efficient.
We have a lot of programs that need don and we are bottle necked at the programming department.
    Love your format of programs
