This is the worst, woefully inaccurate depiction of the events at Bannockburn I have ever seen. Stirling castle was not on a flat plain. De Bohun and Bruce fought on horseback and Bruce used an axe, not a sword. After that the English cavalry attacked the Scot's prepared position. First many falling into concealed pits with calthrops in them, then failed. They were not chased by light cavalry. Clifford tried to go round to the east, but were stopped by Douglas and Moray's pike men at the ford at the Pelstream burn. The English vanguard camped to the east for the night, awaiting the foot and archers to catch up during the night. Where the English vanguard camped is disputed and crucial to understanding how Bruce won. Edward, his escort and around a thousand archers made it to Stirling castle, where they were turned away before heading for Dunbar. Did you read anything? Lanercost? The Stellar Templum? Anything?
@@briancarno8837 No sources at all saying they fought on foot. Think about it. If Bruce had dismounted to fight on foot, the English cavalry would have been on him in a minute and that would have been the end of him.

His name was Robert de Brus, Anglicised to Robert the Bruce. I love history but it is intricate. The French called the Indians Le Sauvages which means the woodland dwellers, the English called them Savages which in English is more degrading. There is such inter-marriage between English, Scots and Irish that it should hardly matter. Shakespeare has the English making fun of the French King by calling his son the Dolphin rather than the Dauphin. James the First should be perhaps be James the Great he was very instrumental in North America and especially Nova Scotia.

Bogs either side of the English camp which The Bruce was well aware of und used that for his final push. That archaeologist Oliver Neil and his crew proved it although there wasn’t much left after the battle as the Scot’s took everything of value.
I'm subscribed to another channel that just did a Total War video on this battle. Is someone coordinating?
No! Just bad timing :)
@@cinematicbattles559 copycat channel, nothing original
@@Maximus1883 I was working on this video for ages! I had no idea he would release it a day before I scheduled mine!
@@cinematicbattles559 Yeah, I never doubted you, since the unit roster and mods look very different. This video is more personal while Bellum's focus is on formations and numbers.
@@Omperor Thanks I appreciate that :)
There is a reason the Long Bow and the Long Lance became the end of the Heavy Cavalry.
The information was put together well, but the bloody graphics, especially the beheadings were a bit much.
Interesting you show the single combat between bruce and de bohun on foot as this is normally thought to have been fought on horseback
They did fight on horseback and Bruce killed him with an axe. I can understand if they can't recreate they exact way it went down, but they could have at least fought on horseback.
@@leeashley1902 how do you know Bruce killed him with an axe..?Anyone could have killed him..he might have fell off his horse...no one will ever know now
@@briancarno8837 True, true.
What total war game is this?
This is Total War Attila with the 1212Ad Kingdoms mod!
It’s all about the ruling classes both Scottish and English, they don’t care who dies and nothing changes
Why 300 years after the invasion of William is a French knight assisting the English !
Anything?
Agreed
how do you know they fought on horseback? one pro bruce source written 60 years later?
@@briancarno8837 No sources at all saying they fought on foot. Think about it. If Bruce had dismounted to fight on foot, the English cavalry would have been on him in a minute and that would have been the end of him.
@@2001perseus. I thought it was supposed to be chivalry code of honour gauntlet across the chops kind of thing..but we will neerr know now...Its a good story though
@@briancarno8837 There wasn't much chivalry going on in that bitter war Brian. It is one hell of a story though.
Bannockburn and Stirling bridge were basically English cock ups ….just like Flodden and Halidon hill were Scottish cock ups ….
Yeah, thanks for this but apart from the names involved this was nothing like the battle.
We now have unionists walking amoung us.
I mean our country was completely fucked and we don't have anyone who can reliably lead the country without it going to shit with independence.
For all its cock ups the unions the only thing saving us from being a ruined nation
The colour is really good for back in the day.
Scotland was never conquered yes a few garrisons from England but never conquered. This English army was not English it was a Norman army, England had been wiped out at the Battle of Hastings in 1066 by William Duke of Normandy.
Disappointing beginning, the Bruce killed De Bohun with a blow to the head from the back of his palfrey, there was no face to face on the ground
I know! That was hard to get right with the game unfortunately
@@cinematicbattles559YES, I really wanted to see the palfrey side step , while Bruce rose on his stirrups and cleaved Henry de Bohun's head in half armour n all , with his famous battle axe. The Bruce is my favorite hero.
This was awesome footage from the “Total War” game series. You should at least credit them.
Could do with a round 2
I'm English, but I love the Scottish and Scotland.
good on u mate :)
Who mooned who? 😮
As an American we are the only ones who really conquered the English as the Scotch still live under English rule.
And you think the people that rule America are descended from Americans,I think not. The Americans were murdered and the rest put on reservations.
I suggest that you go read some historical facts before you come to any conclusions. You are in fact wrong in both of your assertions....and "Scotch" is a whisky by the way!
What total war is this for
This is the 1212 Ad Kingdoms mod for Total War Attila
Bruce halved De Bohums head with an axe and they fought on horseback
I think it is correcttly called Scotland v England as Scotland was the home team.
Did the spearmen make it back to England
Yes they did!
* not actual footage
Scotland was led by a warrior king. Who killed a English Knight in battle. You are going to follow someone like that. Plus Wallace was a good Fighter aswell. But wasn't a nobel.
Actually William Wallace was of minor nobility.
William Wallace ruled until his death then England seized Scottland.
Not a single square sausage or can of iron bru in sight
Even the romans couldn't conquer Scotland
who wrote this
Don’t mess with Scotts.
