A Cuban gentleman named Pierre San Martin was among those jailed by Che Guevara in the early months of the Cuban Revolution. In an El Nuevo Herald article from December 28, 1997 San Martin recalled the horrors: “Thirteen of us were crammed into a cell. Sixteen of us would stand while the other sixteen tried to sleep on the cold filthy floor. We took shifts that way. Dozens were led from the cells to the firing squad daily. The volleys kept us awake. We felt that any one of those minutes would be our last. One morning the horrible sound of that rusty steel door swinging open startled us awake and Che's guards shoved a new prisoner into our cell. He was a boy, maybe 14 years old. His face was bruised and smeared with blood. "What did you do?" We asked horrified. "I tried to defend my papa," gasped the bloodied boy. "But they sent him to the firing squad." Soon Che's guards returned. The rusty steel door opened and they yanked the boy out of the cell. "We all rushed to the cell's window that faced the execution pit," recalls Mr. San Martin. "We simply couldn't believe they'd murder him. "Then we spotted him, strutting around the blood-drenched execution yard with his hands on his waist and barking orders -- Che Guevara himself. 'Kneel down!' Che barked at the boy. "Assassins!" we screamed from our window. “I said: KNEEL DOWN!" Che barked again. The boy stared Che resolutely in the face. "If you're going to kill me," he yelled, "you'll have to do it while I'm standing! Men die standing!" "Murderers!" the men yelled desperately from their cells. "Then we saw Che unholstering his pistol. He put the barrel to the back of the boys neck and blasted. The shot almost decapitated the young boy.

No. This may come as a surprise to weak stomached people like yourself, but war is as violent as it is necessary. This is exceptionally true in a revolution. @emmswilliamson I am 61. I was almost 9 when Fidel took over Cuba. During my university years, Che was idolized by many. You never read of his atrocities in school, for some mysterious reason. I read his works and found his thoughts a bit dreamy, so I was suspicious of him then. Later, as an adult, I worked in Miami for some years and met many Cuban refugees. it struck me then, you never hear of people trying to get into Cuba, only those escaping. continuing...

This is not proven just heresay. Yes the revolution was bloody but not nearly as bloody as the US invasion if Iraq was. All war is bad but Che also was prepared to die like a dog for his convictiond rather than behind a keyboard like you....not many people nowadays would have the cajones to do what El Che did.
Ha. I guess all of history is "hearsay" if you don't like it. When I make comments in favor of the Iraq War, you can try to use that distraction. Otherwise, it is irrelevant to this discussion. One thing you're right about, though. Che did die like a filthy, flea infested dog. Those who saw him when they pulled him out of Churro Ravine said how pitiful he appeared. Like a bum. Finally, plenty of people have the "cajones" to do what Che did - which is to say, the picked up a rifle in defense of their country. I'm one of them. I doubt a true keyboard warrior like yourself can say the same. Che was a murderous thug who got what he deserved at the hands of Green Beret-trained Bolivians. After he was killed, they chopped off his hands and buried him in an unmarked grave on an abandoned airstrip, given exactly the military honors he deserved.
I also agree, he was a great individual, and the most important part, he was a man of the people, im Cuban, and i can tell you that none except perhaps Camilo Cienfiuegos (another Revolutionary War hero who died in an "accident" october 1959), had as much support, Castro was the leader of the whole thing, but these two guys had the charisma to pull the people wherever the wanted to, and not through false promises, cause these two guys where the firsts involved in everything was being done
He is so right most Interviews are just a 'one way conversation' the interviewer is only there to get what they want and expects the interviewee to just smile, fill in the blanks and confirm everything they say just to give them a juicy story. Hows about listening and understanding for a change?
Che was a trained doctor who came to the conclusion that the worst threat to health is poverty, he clearly didn't believe that only the wealthy deserved medical attention, so he turned to revolution. An unusual man.

@jacintolibertad I would like to know the inaccuracies you are talking about cuz as far as i can recall everything filmed there was chronologically accurate.
You can see that with your eyes, theres pictures of Che doing "Trabajo Voluntario" (Voluntary work), wich basically is a way in wich people themselve construct what they need, and the state just supplies the resources. Many of the biggest community these days, (great example Alamar) were done trough this, and he was the ideologist behind making this a reality. No matter if people like communism or not, Che is beyond that, he was a Hero, an example, to all generations.
For those who say Cuba is in bad shape nowadays and blame Che... if he was alive, Cuba would be totally different, and so would the rest of Latin America. Cuba is like it is because Cubans didn't have the guts to continue the revolution and many fled to America while those who stayed were too afraid to show their discontentment .
This is true and a good point. I was not supporting Che in any way, i just like to somewhat debate and i really like Benicio del Toro and his roles...sometimes!
Pay attention. I said that he never killed a civilian, which is consider to be a fundamentally different social category than that of soldier, politician, or any other rank that serves the state. It's the oppressed versus the oppressors, and Che absolutely executed oppressors as any true revolutionary ought to. If he didn't like blacks, then why did he risk his life for the Congolese? If he thought Mexicans were stupid, why did he fight for a unified Latin America? Etc., etc., etc.

And a revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate.” Guevara “If the nuclear missiles had remained (in Cuba), we would have fired them against the heart of the US, including New York City. The victory of socialism is well worth millions of atomic victims.” Guevara

@themailman43 I'm specifically referring to this nonsense "the embargo doesn't allo Cuba to trade with the US. However....Cuba is free to trade with any other country in the world and buy anything they need from any other country. " First of all you're right every single country in the UN except the US and Israel are against the "embargo", however if a country/company trades with Cuba they cannot trade with the US for 6 months. That greatly hinders who trades with them.
The fact is that there were always attempts at getting rid of Fidel, but with the Cold War and the Soviets backing him the U.S. not only left him in power, but stopped any means of trying to take him down.
He is not talking about CHE or him, he is telling a FACT. Jornalists always delivers ONE WAY conversation, what is not etical. They want to form opinions according to interests... that´s not right and I support Benicio on that.

@VictorPajeron Uhhh, Batista was the mass murderer, actually. Che never ONCE killed a civilian, in combat or in the transitory period after the revolution.
not really. he made those statements when he was a college frat boy. he also criticized his own latin american race too .he helped in the congo revolution after those statements. he went to congo and cuba and fought alongside congonese and black cubans. Also he wasn't reffering to african americans....but even then he was aiding the black panther party and was freinds with malcom X and jessie jackson praises him.and envisioned an independent african american state in michigan or ILL.

or in Burma, they trade with them, US had never hesitated in trade wih the latin american dictatorships and had never hesitated in support those dictatorships so closely, so the embargo to Cuba has a more bad propose, to make the cuban experience a total failure so latin America can not be developed independently from the USA

I am 61.
I will always remember with true admiration el commandante Che
A murderer and a failure? You're an idiot.
My family are from Cuba and Argentina .
"A Cuban gentleman named Pierre San Martin was among those jailed by Che Guevara in the early months of the Cuban Revolution.
"But they sent him to the firing squad."
Soon Che's guards returned.
Men die standing!"
"Murderers!" the men yelled desperately from their cells. "Then we saw Che unholstering his pistol. He put the barrel to the back of the boys neck and blasted. The shot almost decapitated the young boy."
After he was killed, they chopped off his hands and buried him in an unmarked grave on an abandoned airstrip, given exactly the military honors he deserved.
che guevara i love you my hero
Are you still alive? Oh man what do you think about the movie
Yaaaaaasssssss
Our hero
man i watched savages and it's an instant spot-on that he's a huge star with a lot of wisdom
Well said bravo amigo👏🏻✊🏻👌✌👍
Che is a symbol, now more than he was or fought for in life.
Benicio is the man. Seems like a cool guy
He is so right most Interviews are just a 'one way conversation' the interviewer is only there to get what they want and expects the interviewee to just smile, fill in the blanks and confirm everything they say just to give them a juicy story. Hows about listening and understanding for a change?
AS I'M TYPING THIS I'M LOOKING AT A HUGE CHE FLAG IN MY ROOM... YOU'RE MY HERO. R.I.P ERNESTO.
Che was a trained doctor who came to the conclusion that the worst threat to health is poverty, he clearly didn't believe that only the wealthy deserved medical attention, so he turned to revolution. An unusual man.
So precious
its refreshing to hear someone talking facts for a change, without any bigotry or contempt, its a rare case these days, bravo.
You must hear both sides of the story always
There's only one side to this story. Che is a hero and that's it.
@@AB-wl8kr No, no that's not it. Both sides of any story should be told.
@@steveyoung8186 No, that's really it. You're confusing telling a story from different sides with twisting the truth until it's a lie.
@@AB-wl8kr One persons hero is another persons terrorist. There are ALWAYS 2 sides, and whether you like it or not, both must be told. Nothing should be censored.
How do you turn the page?
One way conversation...
Benicio what an actor! Che what a great personality. Hasta La Victoria Siempre
Ok lets do this
Viva Che Guevara!
Benicio del Toro❤❤❤
"Che’s life is an inspiration for every human being who loves freedom, we will always honor his memory." - Nelson Mandela
right-wing liars fear Che's bravery and example.
I love him! ❤
El Che - Possibly the Greatest Revolutionary that ever lived.
Universe Man that pasty white bastard no thanks
Emiliano Zapata is the Greatest Revolutionary.
@muffinmanxxx321 was the game homefront not about fear of invasion? was the film red dawn about fear of invasion?
that was awsome
Muy Bien Me Encanta 😊 Saludos
I love che, i just don't agree with his politics
VIVE CHE! he's a true world icon..great mad that risked his life for his fellow man
i agree with him no matter what? why should it be one side.. wouldn't you want people to hear your side as well?
@jacintolibertad I would like to know the inaccuracies you are talking about cuz as far as i can recall everything filmed there was chronologically accurate.
Joe where can I find these quotes and read them?
Real men keep their promises. And Yes ! Che is the Real MAN.
That was actually a good answer. Why have a interview when the journalist is arrogant and ignorant of your answer?
I totally agree with him! There is after all a difference between hearing and listening!
"People have to see what’s really happening. Cuba has never attacked anybody. Cuba has solidarity with other countries. They send teachers and doctors to help the people of other countries. It believes in solidarity.
@HalfLifeFan91 you are right. Where are you from?
To watch the interview of course. I just said I could live without websites, I didn't say I was against them.
The journalist try to get uncomfortable to him.
I like the way he goes.
Maybe he didn't want to talk about
"I believe that the man was not only an intellectual but also the most complete human being of our age." - Jean-Paul Sartre -
@JessieAckles im not talking about SUPERRICH people, people who has more money than the average people
Your opinions are your opinions, and I agree that alot of people wave the picture around without knowing alot about the man, but still at least he did something with his life; what have you done.
Che is justice ... Che is righteousness ... Che is liberty ... Che is equality ... Che is fearlessness ... Che is rebellion ... Che is truth.
Che is everything noble in the human spirit. An eternal flame that burns in the hearts of millions - that flame can never be extinguished. If a heaven didn't exist before Oct 9 1967, then one would have had to be created = solely for Che Guevara.
Hasta la Victoria Siempre !
He should talk about these phrases, that Guevara uttered:
“To send men to the firing squad, judicial proof is unnecessary. These procedures are an archaic bourgeois detail … This is a revolution. And a revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate.” Guevara
“If the nuclear missiles had remained (in Cuba), we would have fired them against the heart of the US, including New York City. The victory of socialism is well worth millions of atomic victims.” Guevara
@CiCiSFU And I don't see where you got all that info that Che is my hero. My comment was about how that guy from Colombia/ Venezuela (I forgot) said his individual life wasn't the best, but he is a happy person,
I don't know why everyone here is talking about Marines and sh!+... well, i'm here to say... Benicio did a remarkable job on Che... strikingly resembling in his looks and calmness as well. Bravo m8.
@themailman43
I'm specifically referring to this nonsense "the embargo doesn't allo Cuba to trade with the US.
Exactly! 😍
The fact is that there were always attempts at getting rid of Fidel, but with the Cold War and the Soviets backing him the U.S. not only left him in power, but stopped any means of trying to take him down.
Handsome Benicio!
He is not talking about CHE or him, he is telling a FACT. Jornalists always delivers ONE WAY conversation, what is not etical. They want to form opinions according to interests... that´s not right and I support Benicio on that.
Enjoyed the movie a great deal and I have to agree with Benicio. Great response and again one hell of a job in the film.
"Che Guevara is an inspiration for every human being who loves freedom, we will always honor his memory." --- NELSON MANDELA
"Che Guevara is not only an intellectual but also the most complete human being of our age our eras most perfect man." --- JEAN PAUL SARTRE
perfect for this role!
Conversations ~ two ways talking ,both side storytelling
Monologue~ 1 way talking,1 side storytelling
Democracy, Benicio, you are a really lucky man, and no the cubans citizens that know who really was El Che Guevara manipulated for the Castro revolucionary mafia. You are a really lucky man to live in democracy, for sure....
Communism isn't flawed it's just used in the wrong manner but a world without political parties wouldn't need people like che to keep it free and stable, unfortunately we don't live in a world like that and wars for superiority are waged and that is why people like che are icons. They do what others fear to and people put them down because of fear.
@muffinmanxxx321 Yes, "articulately presenting an argument with proper grammar can not only speak volumes about a person but about their argument as well", but NOT IN UA-cam BUDDY. ;)
@murfdasurfer Yet he is top 100 of the most influential men of the 20th century. Thanks to him now in modern time governments realize that if they commit the same mistakes they did back when, people will react cuz they don't forget. Government knows what unions, syndicates, organized commoners are capable of if their rights are violated. And there's many other civil rights organizations based on Che's ideals not from a political perspective but the fact that we all deserve equal opportunities.
"I don't need proof to execute a man, I only need proof that it's necessary to execute him!" what a judicial genius !!!!1
What the hell where is this movie viewing and when did it come out?
Che got grandomania....he is like the Michael Madsen of revulotionaries. Cool. Had a very good start n breakthrough...and followed that with an embarrassing fiasco on a level where organization n planning didnt exist.American help or not,he was screwed.Benicio did a great Che though...
@ruskybalboa except Puerto Rico..the US decided to keep that for themselves and to squelch all the nationalist movements during the first half of the 20th century.
@emmswilliamson You right mr . CHE one of the biggest man in the world !! he is living forever !! the CIA killing him,but the spirit is alive !! by the way, nothing are shattering ,until you get the right books ! I,m a history teacher,so lot of knowlidge I,ve about CHE !! For me the IDOL !!
@VictorPajeron
Uhhh, Batista was the mass murderer, actually.
Also he wasn't reffering to african americans....but even then
he was aiding the black panther party and was freinds with malcom X and jessie jackson praises him.and envisioned an independent african american state in michigan or ILL.
“To send men to the firing squad, judicial proof is unnecessary … These procedures are an archaic bourgeois detail. This is a revolution!” -Che Guevera
thank you
I travel each year 3-4 times to Cuba and I have many friends on the "Island" and they hate the USA !They would fight for her Country and they´re proud! Her level of education is very high, much higher than the level of the neighbours and USA Friends! The argument of poor, hungry is bulshit!!Visite Cuba and compare with other Countrys in this Hemisphere and you will see how poor are the most democracys in this Area !!
By the way:The Cubans in Cuba talk really bad about her "brothers" in MIami !!
What a guy!!!!! Love him!
or in Burma, they trade with them, US had never hesitated in trade wih the latin american dictatorships and had never hesitated in support those dictatorships so closely, so the embargo to Cuba has a more bad propose, to make the cuban experience a total failure so latin America can not be developed independently from the USA
