And here I was expecting this to be better than the RG Zaku II across the board... Also, I tried tweaking the video settings a bit, so the recorded footage should look better.
Also fun fact, if you ever want the right hand to be free, but don't want to remove the GN Sword, you can pull the hinge back to be in a holstered form of sort. And this is a feature you can see during the Exia's debut
It came in time to avoid the worst of the RG's, but too early to be anywhere near as good as slightly later RG's. Not being able to hold its signature weapon in dynamic poses because the pre-built shoulder frame is too weak and can't exactly be tightened has made me avoid every subsequent version of RG Exia.
5:44 Better buy HG Astraea (and the Type-F) to make Gundam with 2 GN Blade equipped, because the kit have same runner as Exia. Basically it's Exia with extra armament and alternative armor.
I bought this thing around mid 2018. The frame is still as stiff and solid as concrete. It's held up the best of all my old RG kits so far. Even better than the Astray Red Frame.
Yes, the MG have additional articulation for skirt armors so it can lift the legs higher. In RG Exia it's just standard skirt armor articulation when the thigh are bulkier on the front made the legs hindered by skirt armor.
14:58 Okay, so, first off, those DEEP bows from the GM Custom and Zaku III make me feel sore in the legs just looking at 'em. Second, is it just me, or is that a figma or whatever of Meyrin sitting on the back of the Zaku III?
Thanks to you I bought the RG OO Quanta, Rg Destiny, RG Zeta, and HG Barbatos. The Exia was on my list but the Quanta was in stock but this video makes me want to buy it next.
"Dynamic" standing pose... LOL! But in all seriousness I wholeheartedly agree: the hip articulation really hurt the posing of the legs. With that said, to me it's a minor inconvenience rather than a real issue. The RG Exia is a great kit for any 00 fan and I do hope some day Bandai will grace us with the release of the other three gundams from season 1.
Slightly angling the leg outward at like a 20 degree angle is enough to bypass that limited range for the legs. Plus it looks pretty natural still. The RG Repair II and III are actually far worse though. Because of the added bulk on the thighs, both of those kits can't even bring their legs forward at all.
Easily the best Exia in 1/144 scale IMO. Like I mentioned in the unboxing comments I suggest watching out on the pre built arm frame since mine was weak out of the box and broke. A fun kit to decal and paint but with all the small parts that move really have to be extra careful. So yeah middle of the road RG solid enough/good value.
I built one of these after someone else buggered up the legs a tad, without using my snips (I jus couldn't find them... not until I started the arms, that is! Blew my mate's mind at the job I'd done!), as a resque build! The GN rifle/sword looks NICE even on my TITANS colours Mk. II, which bodes well for my kitbash!
I partially "solved" the leg movement problem by getting the "Exia Repair" set (as you remove one of the front skirts as part of the Exia Repair's "battle damage") so I can have ONE leg kicking forward nicely... Then again, as part of the Exia Repair's accuracy I had to ditch the vast majority of the Exia's equipment and its left arm... but it still looks cool! XD
What's really sad for me is that some people defend that the leg movement isn't so bad by saying that they don't recall the Exia doing much with its legs in the show to feel it's worth getting worked up over. I dunno what they smoke that makes em think it's permissible in this case when it wasn't a problem even on the old High Grade Exia.
Got the same problem with the left leg of my RG Exia as well as the 00 Raiser which shares the same inner frame. It's more pronounced on my 00 Raiser because it gets very back heavy once the Raiser is docked.
The hips articulation is even worse in the Repair II version. The new parts around the hip practically gimp that version of the RG Exia. You should try the RG 00 Gundam or 00 Quanta. They use the same MS Joint frame but have much better articulation.
My only question is. Are the stickers in the GN Condensers (all the big green pieces that aren't the eyes and cameras, for those who don't know their Celestial Being terminology) absolutely needed? Or can you build it without them? I honestly can't tell, since Exia does comes with the green pieces. And just because knowing more never hurts, those movable yellow parts are the Clavicle Antenna. Every Celestial Being Gundam has them. They help to control the GN Particles produced by the GN Drive. As do the GN Cables.
This kit was fun to build, but the small and fragile pieces were very frustrating, even for a more experienced builder such as myself. Exia is just naturally on the smaller side of Gundams so this is unavoidable. The worst part is that when you are attaching the arms, if you don't do it correctly you can snap the hinges for the vents and it is EXTREMELY difficult to take apart that section of the chest. I had to use a toothpick to apply cement into the cracks in order to fix this screw up. If anyone has built the MG Exia, how is it in comparison size-wise? I'm considering buying that since maybe it'll be closer to the size of a HG given the smaller stature of Exia in general. Any advice would be appreciated.
"wouldn't recommend for beginners" *insert flashback of having to buy a second kit to replace the part I accidentally damaged.* As you can tell, this was my first kit ever. I didn't know anything about grades yet and only bought the best looking kit of my favorite Gundam. The plus side is that while ordering my second kit I came across the p-bandia add-on kit that converts the Exia to the Exia repair. and it doesn't need the damaged by my inexperience.
Weird I don't remember any complaints from the exias legs from type v3 or mecha gaikotsu. Also if you're wanting best real grade of its time, real grade gundam mk 2, its an overall solid kit.
From what I have seen this thing has good articulation except for the non-movable skirts. Because of this fatal flaw, this rg is inferior to the amazingly stable and articulate rg zeta gundam Oh and personally I prefer to use one blue post-it to tighten my joints
In my school vr game the exia gundam is a boss that's a joke it has instant KO where goalius used his hyper strike the dreaded cataclysm where he used a murder drone head as a football reverse headbutt it in the air and then when it down goalius kicked it so hard it causes the game to freeze which is a fake out then found the exia dead cockpit caved in and blood coming out
Guess the old 2008 Master Grade is still the better Exia at a good price. Have you got a copy of that Exia, or wish we would have a Ver.1.5 thanks to the Astraea Type-F derailing those plans?
I think I have similar issues with my 00 Raiser RG. Something about the joints in that suit for me just don't feel right. Very floppy/loose. And this is pretty much I built the kit>put it in a pose>put it on my shelf. After messing with it months later it just... doesn't hold poses well. Dunno if it just needs superglue or what, but I never had that issue with my various Tallgeese RGs or the Sazabi or Nu, so...
My very first model kit, it was a very troublesome process especially when I only have a nipper used for manicure as my only tool, the head part was too wobly and yeah the hip articulation is very bad, the chest pieces are like grenades when posing, but all in all I really enjoyed building it my fingers hurt for two days tho, it is definitely not for beginners 😂
The only thing I hate about the RG 00 kits is the stupid joints on the torso connecting the arms, they are so brittle, I broke the same part 4 times by casually moving them a few times.
well this reminds me of the second gunpla expo event in the Philippines where every 00 kit went on sale and most of the stocks of RG Exia, RG 00 Raiser and RG 00 Qant went out of stock LMAO.... soooo i went for the RG Astray Gold Amatsu Mina since it went on sale too and the RG that I'm gunning for, which was the RG Exia, went out of stock 😅🤣
Dude, If you're from Manila, those 3 kits are easier to find. There's a lot of reseller out there and also Greenhills has a wide variety of kits for a reasonable price.
Already have PG Exia with LED. Because if that my standards are pretty high for additional Exia kits. Hope we get a MG 2.0. Think I will pass on this one
Just built this one a few minutes ago. It was difficult especially since it was my third gundam. I really hate the stickers, my hands are way too shaky
This video made me realize that despite the exia being the most popular setsuna suit it actually has the worst model kit out of all of them (except the perfect grade which is perfect) the hg is outdated the rg and mg has some issues that the other 00 rg and mg don't have. I hope we get that juicy mg exia 2.0 after the virtue with that awesome gn frame
@@Gunpla_shrimp I don't know how much more complex you want the inner frame to be but in my opinion that inner frame is complex enough as it is (you have to deal with the wires and the led while building the frame)and the only frame that I can think of that is more complex is the pg unleashed rx 78. Also unless you're displaying the kit in one of those cases where you can see both the armor and frame then why does the frame complexity even matter? Ah I see you got the first taste of that early real grade problem
Just finished the Gouf from 08th ms theam. Fun build.
