In 1967 I spent the summer driving an HD 22-70 Hayes moving oil drilling rigs in Saskatchewan. It was big, reliable, heavy steering had two winches and was so ugly, it was beautiful. I'l never forget it!
90% were 12V71's.That truck has been repowered with something more modern and efficient.Trans would be a Allison 6spd auto and the rears look like Clarke BD 91,000's.I was at Pacific from 77-87 doing assembly on these trucks..There were some Cat's and some Cummins KTA powered trucks.Inline 6,V8,V12 and some V16's..It was up to the end use...

That Hayes in those colours just reminds me of growing up in Cowichan valley.

On these and most trucks what it the weight the has to be stopped by the CAB each time the truck brakes? How much weight in wood?
Some claim they was getting 150 ton load .
Old timer said if u go around 160 ton the tire just explode .

Pity the restored one has the wrong for the period engine. It should had a 12V71.

@@mtl-ss1538 Hayes was off road 150 ton load all day . Those Volvo tire are to small cand do the job in real wood working environnement.
A pacific would eat that Hayes for lunch.
