    As a retired professional driver in all my thirty five years of driving one thing to keep in mind if you do not keep your distance between vehicles when driving regardless of weather conditions you will always be in trouble. Patience is a must not speeding is a must common sense when it comes to weather conditions is a must.

      Slow and steady gets er done. Thing is, you can be the safest driver but some asshat always comes along and screws it up with speeding in bad conditions.

    I saw a Swift driver one time trying to back into a truck stop parking spot for the night. After making several attempts but failed, the driver got out, threw his hands in the air in frustration. I went over and asked if I could help him. So I backed the thing in on the first try. The Swift driver just lowered his head and asked how much he owed me. I just said nothing seeing how you were just bob tailing.

      Remember hearing it from dispatchers..”You’ve got to be there in the morning”

    • @magnificenthonky
      @magnificenthonky 3 роки тому +2

      @@hekterr6677 And, more than once, I have calmly replied, "Well, that's not going to happen."
      Legally, dispatch may not compel a driver to drive in unsafe conditions. The driver is there, and knows the conditions. Dispatch can scream all they want, but they cannot make you move. And, the company may not fire you, dock your pay, or otherwise discipline or retaliate against you. The law is written, and plenty of case law exists, firmly setting a precedent in the driver's favor. Multiple drivers have sued former employers over this, and won large sums of money.
      Quoting the legal code, and citing the relevant cases, tends to shut them up.
      I was fortunate, though; my main dispatcher had years of driving experience. So, as long as he was on duty, all I had to do was send a Qualcomm message, "Snow falling, road greasy, shutting down. Will keep you posted". His response was always, "10 4. Stay safe". He was a great dispatcher. I understand that he runs the department, now, which is a good thing.

    I was a professional driver for 30 years. The two most important words for driving in these conditions is SLOW DOWN!!!! And if you think you are going slow enough, SLOW DOWN some more!! That's rule #2. Rule #1 is, the most important part of being a professional driver is, KNOWING WHEN NOT TO. I live on the I 40 Airz corridor. Near Ash Fork. Seen a lot of this. Regardless of reasons, it can be a very scary route at times.

      True, but what difference does it make when you really think about it? After all, who would have thought driving in icy snow as if it was sunny and 80 degrees would result in landing in a ditch? Just ask Mr. Darwin the driver. When will truck drivers figure out that they have no power over inertia?

  • @skytechbits
    @skytechbits 3 роки тому +2

    I prefer to drive the snowy roads in the northeast than in the southwest of the country because of this. Truck drives DO need to work together by slowing down. The one in the ditch though was not the same one that passed the car. Anyone in any vehicle is not going anywhere after sliding into a ditch no matter what the weather is about. It is better to get there "safely" at a later time than not at all is what all drivers should be caring about first in such conditions. Also, anyone who does not have to be on the road should not be there. Not working together causes these problems.

      I don't drive for Swift. If you look at the 10 video's they recently released on you tube. Of all the trucks in the ditches, and medians. You see 1 Swift truck. 1, and you have to rag on Swift. Of course Swift will have more noticeable accidents. Same with Prime, Schneider, JB Hunt and all the other giant trucking companies. These companies have over 20,000 trucks on the road every day. Not like some little 500 truck company. Every trucking company out there is having accidents. But since you can't see Swift on the side, you ignore them. You're an idiot.

    This is why I have bad reports on my MC via freightguard. I don't drive when the weather is bad. The brokers write me bad reviews because I protected my truck and messed their customer. I'd rather protect my equipment and deliver load safely than hurt my business and the load most likely

    Yeah, some guys go way too fast, but some of us understand we have more traction than car because of the weight. In these conditions 30, 35 max. But this isn't for everyone. Especially Swift.

I've been doing the speed limit or 5 over (for cars) when some hotdog trucker comes right up one me when I am driving a 2500 pound car. Come on!!

    I love it how you said he's going to be in the ditch soon, at the beginning of the video But you don't know whether he's already had them tires heat it up while he was driving on regular roads with no snow.I would have been driving in the same way. Had I been driving in dry conditions then ran into snow.

I drive I-40 between Kingman and Holbrook regularly and the SCARRIEST thing for me is to pass one of these old "Busy bodies" swerving all over while busy texting on their phones?
