This video shows an adolescent with severe autism safely and effectively progress through Dr. Greg Hanley’s skill-based treatment (SBT). The student first learns that his behavior matters and he can trust his teachers during the analysis. Then he learns that his communication is effective and yields better results than his challenging behaviors. Then the student learns to tolerate delays or denials that reflect the ambiguity of everyday life. At this point, we have discovered a safe and motivating context to build a variety of new skills such as functional life skills, academics, or other domains that will help the student reach their personal goals.
