People need to realize that art direction is more important than graphics. All these triple A games with stellar HD graphics all look like bland copies of each other. Elden ring looked like a painting from beginning to end

Graphics don’t matter because it can’t be improved anymore. Not by much, at least. We’re reaching a plateau in visual fidelity soon. The difference in graphical fidelity between RDR2 and GTA 6 will be FAR less significant than the difference between GTA 5 and RDR2.
That’s why Fromsoft are GOATS because they’re ahead of the game. They priories what CAN be improved, and focus on the artistic style of visuals, rather than their graphics. That’s why, as you said, people had a cold reaction to the Demons Souls Remake, because it looked very pretty, but people weren’t happy with how the Remake ended up making worse artistic designs and music than the original Demons Souls
Elden Ring was criticised for how it “graphically” compared to GOWR by game journos. Baldurs Gate 3 was criticised for how “clunky” it looked compared to Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2 by game journos. If Elden Ring and BG3 weren’t supposed to win the Game Awards, respectively, then we may as well take our asses to the Oscars if we care bout the graphics😂

GoW was sick for sure in story, graphics, and gameplay, but graphics were absolutely sidelined by the sheer scope, gameplay, and immense hidden story within Elden Ring, I was also pretty dissuaded at first as I had never played a fromsoft game and was pretty annoyed about the 60fps cap, though I just don't think anything can compare to the feeling of entering an entirely different region and finding out just how massive the game is without being a walkfest, not to mention the accomplishment of figuring out a boss's attack patterns and finally killing them making you feel badass for it

Art direction and gameplay top graphics and story forever. You can have a shitty experience with Just high fidelity graphics and a ok story. That's like saying why all anime isn't CGI since CGI is Graphically better looking.
People use 'Fidelity' and 'Art Style/direction' interchangeably. there's an important difference.
Personally, I don't care for Elden Ring's art direction (this was a major factor in me skipping that game) - so if that's what you mean by 'dusty' then that's valid. However the Art Style, regardless of if it suits my individual tastes, is striking and unique enough to garner praise from many others. It just happens to be beauty that is lost upon me.
I think the relatively lower fidelity was a necessary sacrifice, considering the size of the game's scope though, and that's not really something that should be criticized quite so harshly.
Jei has correctly observed, the Demon Souls remake has noticably more impressive fidelity... but it can afford to, due to the scope of the game.

Garbage take. Gameplay over graphics always. I dont take time out of my life to turn on a videogame to watch it. If the gameplay is garbage, graphics won't save it. The dude on the right has a personal grudge that's clouding his perception of reality.
Reality in this case being, his take is disingenuous. Didnt look dusty to the majority of other eyeballs that saw it. His eyeballs are next level cybernetic or alternatively need laser surgery badly.
I'm with Jei. I beat Elden Ring and honestly it never felt rewarding, the boss battles felt more like a chore I had to get through. In between there isn't even anything else to do, I was bored and all I had to do was, grind to level up so my health bar is bigger so I can fight the next boss and there's basically no story...you just face some bosses who say some cryptic things and that's it. I played it once and never picked it up again.
very subjective, but I get that some people might not be used to or like games that do away with any sort of handholding in both exploration and story, theyre things you look for and discover in elden ring if you really care enough to do so
@@shallot4991 getting a story shouldn't be a chore my friend, that's poor game design not a matter of handholding. My character effectively felt like he was a nameless empty shell. You are told he needs to accomplish these things but what is the impact? You never feel his actions have any impact in the world around him and how could it, there are a handful of npc in the game...its a lifeless sandbox with just enemy fodder to again level up.
If you just like games that are focused on boss fights that's fine but the story most certainly wasn't a strength of the game. As for exploration, that wasn't part of my initial comment so I had no problem there. That said, the game literally has tutorials all over UA-cam telling ppl how to get to certain places. The fact that those videos have so many views says a lot. Any game that forces that many players to go to a different source to figure out how to get from A to B has done a poor job.
Ppl have taken to praising bad game design because they want to feel like they're part of some elite gaming class that "figured it out". Which is quite unfortunate because being good at one thing doesn't make anyone an elite anything
The game has its strengths, I'm not denying that but the praise it gets is massively oversold

just like you dont like games that dont tell you where to go or what to look for, most people are tired of games that do tell you where to go on a marker and what to do. Souls like games aren't for everyone of course but even I who despises turn based games can understand why something like Baldur's gate 3 won goty last year even if I haven't or wont ever play it.
