My parents told me they saw the shining in the theater in the 80's before I was born. My mom still swears it was the scariest movie she ever saw. I always wanted to get to experience it the way it was meant to be seen on the big screen. I got really lucky and a theater here in Phoenix was doing a special showing of the Shining, my girl got us tickets and we went to see it back in October. What an amazing experience, one of the best movies ever made.
Every Stanley Kubrick movie you could watch dozens of times, and still like it like the first time you watched it. Can’t do that with movies these days. I cannot count how many times I watch Clockwork Orange, full metal jacket and the shining. Stanly Kubrick was a genius.
This... There's a reason his movies are tied to a lot of conspiracy theories too. The man was clearly onto something with a lot of his references throughout his films. All of his movies are a rabbit hole to go into on their own. But I don't blame people for attaching his works to many wacky and (some) plausible sounding connections to the conspiracy world. There will never be another esoteric filmmaker like him again.
70s men being dangerous is so true. I grew up in the 80s, but my dad and all my uncles (all up about 15 guys) were all scary dangerous maniacs who treated their wives like total shit. Like "shut that baby up, or I'll shut both of you up" kinds of guys, who'd finish work on friday and go straight to the bar and maybe not come home till saturday afternoon, etc. This was kind of the norm back then, and now it is the norm for guys to be tamed and so much so they are abused by their wives, but it is cool that Louis mentioned that because it is so true and such an interesting observation.
Ya you’d like James Whale Bake Sale. It’s just clips of actors, comedians, and directors talking about films- whether they love or hate it. Bill Burr has a ton of great ones.
Fantastic movie. I love King, but he got a chance to remake The Shining years later, and that wasn't scary at all. Kubric was right about how to tell this story; King was wrong. Love Louis! Always fun when you react to him! :) I hope you're doing well, Frank! I look forward to Rondo's return, when he's ready.
Bro Frank you should check out the Opie & Anthony rip Rich Vos for not knowing The Shining 😂 it’s just a bunch of comedians making the funniest Shining jokes about Vos, insanely funny 😂
I'm a huge The Shining fan. Man, when I first listened to that Rich Vos clip, I died laughing my ass off. Still listen to it every once in a while. The K I K E part floors me.
When Halloran gets axed in the chest I still jump lol. He goes all that way and the whole movie of psychic interactions just to get axed in the chest immediately :/. But he delivered the snowcat they escaped with so he served his purpose I guess? In the book he lives and Jack comes to his senses and they blow up the hotel IIRC.
Just seeing the clip compilation from the movie reminds me of how godlike Kubrick's directing was. The Shining is so good at capturing an uncanny and ominous energy. Barry Lyndon is an incredible movie as well. I saw it in a cinema, and it was the one time I've seen a film with an intermission in it. It's like four hours. Each Stanley Kubrick film is unique and worth a watch.
That comment confused me. Was he talking about the actor Jack Nicholson? Or his character? Because the character dies in The Shining. But another actor portrays him in the sequel. You can definitely bring back a dead character in a sequel as a ghost. Especially in a hotel full of ghosts. I don't think bro knows what he's talking about, honestly.
They REMADE this? Yeah, I'll give that the big swerve. I don't care who made it. CGI ruins so many things. You can't even have a car chase these days because they can't resist doing ridiculous "stunts" where the physics just isn't correct. It's so off-putting.
I watched the Shining 2, its like a barely family friendly super-hero movie. I liked it, it was fun, it just is not a part 2 like your expecting it to be.
Thank you. They turned it into an MCU movie - girl with superpowers! - and made it completely uninteresting. And it looks like they're vaping all the time, wtf
Okay hear me out you're one of the best at doing reaction videos but I have a unique business proposal for you and Rondo. You'll be the first ever nobody else is doing this you guys can start a whole new trend. Do reaction videos to pornhub videos lol keep an open mind here Frank and Rondo don't try to cancel my idea like a far left liberal LOL just think of it lol
Louis is all kinds of wrong. Kubrick didn't make the book as is, he made it as an exposé of Stephen King's fucked up, alcohol-soaked brain, which is why King hates it. To King, this movie is Stanley saying, "I see you." All of the horror is not real. We are in the novel in King's mind, with King, as he is writing it. It's Meta within Meta.
No he just thought King was a bad writer who hit upon a cool idea about a secluded hotel. Except King stole many ideas from other sources anyway for "The Shining"
Will you leave a trail of thc gummies leading to the couch so Rondo will come back?
Ooo, piece of candy
What happened to him? I think they probably got in a fight or something. There’s no way he would be gone this long.

He's right. The hotel is the star of the movie. It's a liminal movie; the original backrooms.
Louis is literally a director. He's a huge film buff. He knows his ish

Louis' take on Goodwill Hunting is a funny one, that's from his come back standup
His best take however is his take on Magic Mike.
How do ya like them apples?
He ruined the movie for me lol

RIP Shelley Duvall, she passed away several months ago.
Hope Rondos doing ok! Love you guys so much❤️

Dr. Sleep was surprisingly good. Very rewatch-able.
My mom dealt with really bad domestic abuse when she was young. This movie gave her flashbacks of it… when Jack turned to the dark side
The other guys talking to Louis are Joe List and Raanan Hershberg.
Is the other guy ever coming back?

In Dr. Sleep Jack’s character was an actor. Jack Nicholson is still alive. It wasn’t CGI.
What happened to the other guy?
that's funny you said Jack Nicklaus at the end. I used to get Jack Nicklaus the golfer confused with Jack Nicholson the actor for the longest time
You gotta do Talking Funny with him, Chris rock, Seinfeld and Ricky gervais
All work and no Frankenstein's Lab, make Jack a dull boy.
kubrick is a unique. filmmaking genius.no one capable of criticizing him...louis ck is right...
Hey, is the Chinese guy ever coming back? Tell him we miss him!
The book is great.
The fact Steven King doesn’t like Kubrick’s version of The Shining makes me love it even more.
You can't even spell his name right.
Most King movies sucked, until The Stand miniseries. Carrie was ok. Dead Zone was good. But the others were lame.

That’s how irrelevant he is lol

Yup. Besides, King stole all this from at least 2 different sources

if you haven't watched barry lyndon you definitely should. great film. also a technical marvel for the time with its lighting techniques
"The Shining has nothing to do with Stephen King" But.....Stephen King wrote The Shining.
Barry Lyndon is a mood on film.
So when's your buddy going to come back man, kudos to you for doing it by yourself, keep us informed, Thank you.
Bobby Lee, Mad TV, “24”. There’s a couple of them….

did the interviewer even ask a question?
it's cut from conversation with Joe List and Raanan Hershberg
There's other vids of louis talking about kubrik films, the trick is finding the videos without the other idiots interjecting at all.

7:02 never happened 😂 Flanagan used Henry Thomas for the role
Bro, don't kill off Jack Nicholson yet! Still kicking at 87.
Jack’s still alive dog
Doctor Sleep was damn good, I thought.
No, they didn't bring Jack back as CGI character, it was a different actor. Were you high watching it lol?
I hear he donated his eyes to science hahaha
Frank we need closer where's rondos body
React to his catholic church sketch its one of the best sketchs
Wasn't there an asian dude before? Randy..?
Pretty sure Jack Nicholson is still alive
TIL: John Nicholson is dead, someone better tell him.

Jack nicolson aint dead homeboy. Lol

It was okay, and the book was only just okay too.
Director Mike Flanagan is overrated and his stuff is way too syrupy.

The Stephen King TV version is not great. Good acting. Not great version..
