No it's not cute. It more like the babies just stopped trying. So as this in an evolutionary explanation, compare it to the animal world. When a mum starts to ignore her offspring it becomes an outcast and lays down somewhere away from the others and generally doesn't survive... (not that human babies who are ignored don't survive, but it's that kind of behaviour), so it is just showing that social releasers are important in bond formation.
