i love looking at what my favourite place on the island used to look like. im 14 so i didnt get to experience even the indian bit and i dont remember much of what's recently been blocked off due to the cliffs falling. i just watched a video on what blackgang used to look like in 1993 i think and i wish I could've experienced more. brilliant place.

went there in 1988 - remember seeing abandoned areas back then with views straight down to the sea - a shame what happened but its nature and we humans cannot stop its progress.

i remember the floodlit nighttimes at blackgang in the 1970`s also.we used to go in the daytime , then back again in the evening on the same day. god my parents must have been tolerant.i thought they would still be open in the evenings , but alas that is all now history.i have recently bought a few reels of 1960/70s cine film of the isle of wight so heres hoping there is some more old film of blackgang on them.check out my blackgang playlist for tonnes more videos about the chine.

Brilliant! pity we cant put then and know pictures alongside?? Blackgang is a land of mystery!! has amagical feel! spent many a holiday as a kid and now adult with my kids here! Thanks to the Dabell Family for all the thought and hard work they have put into this place for many years and hope they keep it up! would love to see a evening floodlite walk around the park from the 1970's(the nearest we got to this recently was a Ghost walk around the park with Marc Tuckey by tourch/lantern light..

Oh we used to scramble about here as children and it was a magical place with little coloured lights in the 6o's and 70's. We love The Island still... Thank you for the film.

The worst thing they did was getting rid of the old railway line. The steam buffs and weekend vintage fans would have flocked here for that alone. Then they closed down the tourist info shops. The cost of the ferry for cars is overpriced that puts people off but plugging into the Vintage scene is the answer. People are looking to escape the modern world and the Island has so much charm. We love the Island and visit whenever we can. As the man said in the movie "People will come Ray, people will most definately come" but the powers that be, the business owners, the Islanders must get together and fight for their Beautiful Island.

I loved Blackgang Chine as a kid - including Adventure Land with the old army vehicles. By the time they put the spaceship in, my grandparents were still taking me there, but by then I had reached my teens and was finding it a bit childish. But that area has always been crumbling into the sea. It is not even a true "chine" anymore (in the geographical sense, like Shanklin Chine for example) and hasn't been for about 50 years. What remains of the park is still worth taking younger kids to. My daughter used to love the Cliffhanger roller coaster; I remember once sitting in the cafe all afternoon reading "Hornblower and the Hotspur" while she went on the ride over and over again. But even she has outgrown the attraction of it now. Sad - but time moves on!

I too loved mission control. For years I have been trying to find an internal photo of it as if I remember it had a control panel and a couple of shop dummies dressed up as NASA type guys. One photo surfaced online 2 years ago showing some of the interior.
Here's a walkthrough of mission control this year explaining what I remember was there as a child. ua-cam.com/video/keICTO3BWDk/v-deo.html

@@ISLEOFWIGHTARCHIVE yep. Widows on both sides of the walkway. I remember the knobs and buttons were actually all from old cookers and tvs etc. I managed to climb up inside the big space shuttle that was next to it through the hole around the landing gear. I have a photo of me looking out the window of that at about the age of 9. No pictures inside mission control though other than vivid memories 🙂

I'm 42 now, but used to go to the Isle of Wight every year and Blackgang Chine was always what we looked forward to the most. We played in those armoured cars many times.
Very sad seeing how much of it has all gone.

It's changed so much since I was little it makes me sad when ever I watch videos like this it just makes u wonder if one day the Isle of Wight will never be here I mean I went there last year and they got rid of the mirrors witch was kind of upsetting I wish they could put that roundabout there because it would show kids that people in the 1950-1990s played on that 😭😭

Havn't been able to find this part yet...think we walked the wrong way last time we were over!! Doh!! Your Brading vid with the old Waxworks brought a tear to my eye...was there back in the late 80s/early 90s with my kids and had such fun, but Blackgang always has a piece of my heart! Coming over again next weekend...maybe I'll find it this time!

My god, I have fond memories of going to Blackgang chine in the early 1990's (91-93) & while yes some parts from my childhood are still there, others are sadly gone.
I rember a large metal digger, which my mum has a photo of me on & 1 armoured car.
I visted the theme park 2 years ago with a friend of mine & couldn't believe how small it now was.

I VISITED BLACKGANG CHINE IN THE LATE 60'S ON A FAMILY HOLIDAY TO THE ISLE OF WIGHT. WE WENT AT NIGHT AND WAS A MAGICAL SIGHT. THE ONLY PART OF IT I REMEMBER WAS THE HALL OF MIRRORS WHERE WE AL WERE IN HYSTERICS AT THE CRAZY IMAGES OF US ALL. VISITED IT AGAIN IN THE EARLY 80'S DURING THE DAY WHICH WAS QUITE ALOT DIFFERENT. CANT REALLY REMEMBER WHAT WAS THERE. PITY ITS NO LONGER AROUND (LIKE THE BRADING WAX MUSEUM)

Wow Thank you so much for sharing this - I used to take my children to Blackgang Chine in the early 1980s and in fact visited BGC in the late 70s. It is quite sad to see the remains of the crooked house and the mission control that area holds so many happy memories - I am sure somewhere I have pictures of that area I must seek them out and compare it then with this film. Thank you once again (excellent supporting music as well)

Just watched this video again and picked up things I hadn't seen before! You know loads!! ;) The "Unknown Post" could possibly be something to do with the old rockets you were telling about me infront of the mission control? Perhaps a stand for the rockets or something? Or if not could be a hand rail of some sort or a part of a swing/slide.

Did I read right? Blackgang not open in eves and no lights? That woz best time to go. We use to get on coach ( moss ) who were based in sandown couple of guest houses from where we stayed. Half 7 picked up and then picked up people in lake and last stop shanklin. We would arrive at blackgang and be till turned 10pm. As going round blackgang and getting dusk lights would come on and made it even more magical. We never went during the day. It wouldn't been the same. I also remember going and each year finding wooden stake fencing over paths and cliff fall. Running along paths with cracks. Health and safety not so strict back then so mayb that's why they might not be open in evenings

Obviously this was for the kids to climb on (unless H&S since had other ideas) but as someone who has an interest in earthmoving machinery, it'd be great to get some pictures of this - if indeed it still survives! Does anyone know what happened to it, or even the armoured cars?
