      I purchased my Crystal in July 2023, with the option for the wide-FOV lenses (which meant I didn't get the higher PPD extra lenses as standard). Despite two promised dates I still have not received them and at this point I don't think I ever will. The last message I sent to Pimax today:
      "Hi.
      It's now over a year since I purchased the Crystal, with the option for the wide-FOV lenses. You have given me two dates for supply, both of which didn't happen. At this point I no longer believe you intend, or ever intended, to supply the promised items and consider you have engaged in fraud."
      I would probably have purchased the Crystal Super but that's no longer going to happen.

    I know people that i know and trust that have the new WideFOV lenses that think they are well worth it. So this is interesting. I’m looking forward to getting them as so far my experience with the Crystal has been pretty top notch. You do need to work on settings no doubt and I wonder if MRTV actually adjusted these correctly and adjusted and restarted the software correctly to get these working.

    Hi Sebastian just a question do you from your side have any updates about the Pimax 12k. I just don't know from the Pimax team what is it with them they told us the 12k would be here about 3 years ago and still nothing. Would there be any chance that you could maybe get an update or interview from the Pimax team again about this headset and maybe just ask them straight up when will the Pimax 12k be released and they should stop with this Pimax trade in programs and releasing all these dumb products just release one standard headset just like you say and they should just stop this nonsense. Thanks for you excellent content. Appreciate

  • @Guinea54

    I've commented about this quite a few times, and I just don't get it.. The bigger the FOV on a VR headset the less binocular overlap you should have? right? The way I always see it is if you increase the horizontal FOV one eye is going to see more outward while the other eye is going to always have it's vision blocked by the nose area of the VR headset. Even your own nose blocks a lot of FOV in your normal everyday vision. I don't really comprehend how you can increase horizontal FOV and not have the binocular overlap decrease because your eyes can't see inward past what's blocked by the nose area... Can someone please make sense of this for me? I feel like we're simply replacing blackness with a picture that doesn't have binocular overlap because the other eye cannot see past the bridge of the nose section.

    • @mixedrealityTV
      @mixedrealityTV  6 місяців тому +1

      You can get a bigger FOV and a bigger or similar binocular overlap by increasing the FOV of each eye. And you could get that by bigger displays for example. If the display size stays the same, the only thing you could do is decrease overlap.

    • @Guinea54
      @Guinea54 6 місяців тому +1

      @@mixedrealityTV Well you would know you have every headset. I just can't picture it visually in my mind. I feel like the physical limit is the edge of the lens and the nose area... Maybe by bigger screens the image is zoomed out more? I just don't get how you can see past what is blocked by the physical headset obstructions.

    Pimax as a company is utterly baffling. There's no other company I can think of in high end electronic space that pumps out so many products with utterly baffling and poor decision-making, yet remains around to do it again and again. I feel like they just operate in a super niche VR space that allows it.

    I am stoked for my wide FOV lenses for the Pimax Crystal to arrive. I appreciate the info as always but VR is so very subjective even when being objective.
    It seems that those I have talked to who have used the wide FOV lenses have been split as far as having them replace their standard lenses or not.
    From being a variety VR user, who used the Varjo Aero for over a year as my daily HMD, and the Quest 3 since launch, both have been replaced by my Pimax Crystal as my favorite HMD. Both the Quest 3 and Varjo Aero have a less than great binocular overlap, and even with the wide FOV loss in binocular overlap, they are still on par with both of those headsets.
    As with all things VR related, there is an adjustment period where it requires time to get used to the new hardware. These wide FOV lenses are no different. They are not swap out and you are good to go, but take some additional adjustments to make work as intended.
    I feel a 110° horizontal is where I start to not notice the black around the lenses. These wide FOV lenses will allow for more than that and all without losing the 35PPD clarity.
    Props to Pimax for taking their time to release these lenses, with eye tracking. I’m very excited for mine to be delivered. Like I said, it may not be for everybody but I’m sure as heck willing to take the time to adjust and do whatever is needed to make them work as Pimax has intended. I get a 104°x104° FOV currently and can’t wait to experience a 114-120°x102-104° FOV with the Crystals clarity. Binocular overlap has never been a deal breaker for me and I don’t expect it to be an issue for me with these lenses considering the comparable binocular overlap on my favorite VR headsets. Cheers!

    • @mixedrealityTV
      @mixedrealityTV  7 місяців тому +2

      Great, hope you can enjoy them. For me they are just so much worse than the 35ppd ones and again...fundamentally flawed because of the tiny binocular overlap.

      @@richardPalmisano Great thing about this channel: I make these videos for you, my subscribers! It's not about pleasing the companies that send me free stuff. After building my own VR google I quickly found out that large FOV lenses have to be super close to your eyes, forget about having glasses inbetween. What we need is lager OLED screens that we can place close to our eyes. Its the only way optics physics works out, thats the obvious reason Apple got their custom screens made. I advocated for the VR manufacturers to come together and share the dev cost for such screens years ago. My hopes now is that Meta will fund mass production of more large custom screens in the future.

    • @shApYT
      @shApYT 7 місяців тому +4

      I am not sure if I am correct, but I believe the industry is going the other direction with micro OLED displays to make headsets more compact. Bigger screen is big and with it comes big optics which are also big and heavy.

They seem to make high end VR products, but seems like most videos everyone has some kind of problems with them or takes a genius to set them up to work properly. Plus they cost too much for what I want to do.

      People have been predicting the doom of VR since I bought my first headset in April of 2016. Sure, it has remained a niche, but I'm definitely not seeing it shrinking. That said, any chance of breaking out of niche territory will require a much different form factor. I don't think until you get what essentially looks like regular eyeglasses with high quality so people don't feel stupid and isolated when using them, can it really reach mass appeal. Once that happens though, why not. You can sit on the couch next to your spouse and kids and watch the same movie, and it appears the picture is on the wall, and heck, you can switch and watch sports if you like now and then ;). You can still see each other and talk without feeling silly. I do think the Apple Vision Pro is a failure in that regard if they really thought that this fake face display would alleviate it. That said, if a headset is comfortable enough and high enough visual quality, I could definitely see myself working using one for hours on end.

      I think it will have to go away for another decade or two as the technology just isn't there and people are just going to be tapped out financially. More people have played VR this time round compared to the 90's and have decided to not stick with it. I think the final push will be AR/MR computing but people will find out that doesn't add much other than "wow this is cool" it doesn't make anyone more productive in a work environment.@@tosvus
