Quite informative but i want to add one thing as i have read somewhere even if you claim 160 points but but do not qualify for points for skilled job offer or skilled employment in New Zealand;or
have not undertaken full-time study for at least 2 years in New Zealand resulting in award of Master's or Doctorate degree
You wont get ITA instead they will give you smc job search visa for 12 months

If u apply for a job, the employer will employ you if got resident visa and to get a resident visa you need job offer. Please can you share with us the secret how to solve that problem. Migration advisors have kept this secret to themselves. If u ask them to solve this catch 22 dilema they charge u alot of money as if they are giving licence enter heaven. To make matters worse they will tell u straight that its a lose or win game
I am a diesel mechanic. With level 7 and highest ielts , age 47, my points will reach almost 210 with job offer outside Orkland. But catch 22 is keeping one spot for the past 4 years.

Without job offer Residence Visa is not straight forward.
There website says: Assessment of your residence application
Please note in order to be granted residence under the Skilled Migrant Category, you must be awarded points for skilled employment in New Zealand, or have a Doctorate or Master's degree gained in New Zealand.
If you do not have skilled employment in New Zealand or a New Zealand Doctorate or Master's degree, but you otherwise meet the Skilled Migrant Category requirements, you will be able to apply for a Skilled Migrant Category Job Search visa. This visa is granted for the purpose of obtaining skilled employment in New Zealand. If this temporary work visa is granted, the decision on your residence will be deferred. If you obtain skilled employment during the deferral period your residence application may be approved. If you do not obtain skilled employment during the deferral period your residence application will be declined.

Deferral period
