Thanks! It's a forage soybean, looks like the Midwest wildlife managers RR mix for me here in NH. They have a confusing number of seed blends. Your plot looks amazing! Thanks again!
I’m doing the Buffalo system at my property. Can I broadcast forage beans prior to crimping my cover crop with success? I’d like to do beans for the fall and just not certain if I would be wasting my time/money by not drilling the bean.
Good question. It’s a gamble. Soybeans can grow by broadcast but they really need to be covered some with soil. If you do what you said they could germinate off they had good enough moisture but being on the surface if it gets at all dry I’m sure they would get zapped. I would advise against it and do something that does great for broadcasting. Any smaller seed. Clover, rape, turnip, chicory, etc.
Thanks I did a ton of management videos this summer so be sure to check those out. This last week I did a quick update on those two plots. ua-cam.com/video/NnfOuyTXBTA/v-deo.html
how did you prep the area where you did the no till drill? did you have to round up the no till drill area? just wondering if it would work if you only bush hogged and "drilled" into low cut sod...
+Huntin Grounds (Steven Fuller) I broadcast a wheat, clover, chicory, & turnip mix here a few weeka ago onto bare dirt. haf a lot of rain over the next few days & it is coming up great! Ultimately with limited rain ww have to take more extraordinary measures for good seed to soil contact. A drill would be nice!
Good side by side comparison. I thought I remembered you timbering some land. Did you turn any of that to food plots? I would be interested in that progress, expectations, etc.
I had planned on it but my logger let me down and didn't do anything. I will wait till the end of hunting season to start with a new logger and I plan on showing everyone that process each week.
+Huntin Grounds (Steven Fuller) We had 12 acres timbered this summer. We then made 7 more acres of food plots (10 acres total). Definitely excited about feeding our hungry deer.
hey Mark, here is a video about how I use logging to improve habitat and get a good forage plot done.ua-cam.com/video/zMWlgSkRmzU/v-deo.html. Always use a forestry consultant who understands wildlife habitat improvement
Hey man what do you do for a living? Cuz it seems like you have a lot if time to work on your food plots. Plus I do like the little update videos. Your videos have helped me a lot on my knowledge of food plots. Thanks!!
Thanks. I just work my butt off lol. I work a fulltime job for a company doing social media marketing and video production plus run my show full time, plus work my new property and I'm in the process building a house, just my dad and I. I'm a little overwhelmed right now but it will be worth it. Thanks for the support!
Hi, I'm almost totally new to farming, I'm going to start this year on a tiny 1 acre field, and I'm looking for some advice I definitely want to go no till, n herbicides, pesticides etc. My basic plan is to plan at rye+soya combination. Unfortunately I don't have access to a no-till drill, so I will have to broadcast the seeds intstead. Do you guys think it would work? The plan is to sow the rye in about a week, and interplant the soy a few weeks afterwards I woud really appreciate any sort of input! I live in a temperate climate, daily highs have been reaching 20+ degrees, although this dawn it fell below freezing, it was probably the last frost day. Thanks!
No till mean spraying. You kill the overgrown stuff, then crimp it over which acts as a kind of mulch layer. Drop a small low energy seed and not have to till up the soil but you have to spray
Marc Fournier all the soybeans deer eat in big ag fields are all round up ready I don't even know if there is an organic farmer in all of my county here in Wisconsin. Glyphosate isn't bad for deer, although it is bad for the streams and rivers when runoff occurs.
Right on package it say no grazing for 30days after application. I will not judge any for using it and it may not be as bad as it made out to be. That being said the warning is there for a reason and it should be used a bit more sparingly than it is in some areas.
The difference between broadcasting and using the no til drill is amazing! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks no prob

No problem, thank you
nothing beats comeing home from work and getting to watch another episode of the huntin grounds
lol well thanks. This is just a short video. New episode will be coming this thursday!
great video this has to be the best side by side comparison I've seen! thanks for sharing
Thanks. I saw it and I thought I just had to show it.
how are you getting soybeans to grow like that? Deer usually wipe them out when I plant them
Make sure you plant enough acreage per deer pressure

I'm going to have to keep an eye out for a drill!
Nice comparison, keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your videos, you got a awesome dog there
Thanks. Yeah she is spoiled. lol
How about an update to this video. Interested in the difference between the two fields.

Thats a moving target. Do you have ag fields around? How many acres you have planted
So which would you recommend?

I sprayed with round up when it was short and drilled in. You could drill in to your tall stuff then go over it after planting with the brush hog.
cool thank you! very helpful... is that an Australian shepherd? we have an aussie and she's the best dog. thank you again!
Thanks. Her name is Journey and she is a full blood Australian Shepherd and she is the best!
Thanks, they seem to have a bunch of different soybean seeds, which specific seeds?
Check out the map on this link. I used Large Lad. eagleseed.com/forage.html
What kind of soybeans did you plant? At the end of this video( the tall ones)
They are Eagle Seed soybeans.
Is this with your phone? That is pretty good quality.
Yes it is. Easy for me to do live updates that way.

Are any of your beans starting to get the little flowers on them yet?
Yep tons of them. Small pods are starting on some of them.
+Huntin Grounds (Steven Fuller) Same here.. Growing by the minute. Had two days of drizzly rain this weekend, warm and sunny today!

+Huntin Grounds (Steven Fuller) well its all looking good man. Keep it up!
Love the videos, does Eagle seed sell any concealment cover. Something that grows 6 or 7 feet?
Thank you! I don't thing currently at this time. I will tell you I have some soybeans close to 6 foot tall.

Broadcasting works if you work the soil and drag soil over the seeds. You won’t have much luck leaving them on top of the soil
No till mean spraying. You kill the overgrown stuff, then crimp it over which acts as a kind of mulch layer. Drop a small low energy seed and not have to till up the soil but you have to spray
That's definitely not an acre.
Monsanto earns you a big fat thumbs down.
Dang man you're making me dizzy
good video, Roundup is bad long term
round up soybean...mmm must be delicious poison for the deer...and then you feed your kids that...
