My gut instinct is that plants care a LOT more about weather conditions like temperature and rainfall than they do about the phase of the moon and whatnot. The trouble with many of these types of calendars is that it's difficult to find side-by-side comparisons with a control group. Lots of people swear "it works!" but they really have no idea if the same plant would have grown just as well planted a few days earlier or later, so that's just not very helpful.
My personal experience with various sorts of plants is that they'll take off and grow when conditions are right for them, and they'll be ready to harvest when they're damn well ready to be harvested ;)
We're just getting the second season going in a new place, with various expansions and new beds, so I don't have time to do a proper comparison this year. But I do have extra space, so I intend to do some of that next year. One bed or row of plant X following the biodynamic calendar or Farmer's Almanac regardless of weather etc, and one of the same plant done strictly according to the current conditions. That may give me a better idea of which to follow in the future.

It's always worth experimenting - assuming you have the space. Do let us know how you get on.

I love Rudolf Steiner and biodynamics! In a biodynamic garden, or on a biodynamic farm, you can both see and feel the powerful difference. The energy is truly amazing! Thanks for bringing this method of agriculture to the attention of your viewers.

That was my main takeaway from Biodynamics as well - it's motivational to get the sowing/planting/harvesting done, handily giving a timescale for planning what to do next

And if nothing else, seeds get planted and crops have more time to grow. :)

There's a lot of confusing and frankly just plain weird stuff in biodynamics. One proponent in the states swears that bit about stuffing a cow horn with fresh manure and burying it over the winter works, but he admits he has no idea why. I did some digging and found that the practice originated in Scandinavia somewhere, Finland I think... what was happening was, they buried it below the frost line in fall and therefore beneficial bacteria were still growing in it all winter, so the microbes were ready to burst into action early in the spring. And that's why adding it to compost or soil gave a nice boost.
So. Some of the biodynamics stuff turns out to have a solid basis in fact, and some of it is just... well... we don't really know.

@@dogslobbergardens6606 Yes, and the BD500 prep isn't that unlike modern aerated compost teas...

I like the way your seeds are organized. I sort of have started sorting my seeds in a similar way.

I've got mine in photo organizers. They have different pouches inside a bigger case. I got a 2 pack

Good evening, I'm from Vietnam, and we are also practicing biodynamics in our garden. We're also a Waldorf/Steiner Primary School so biodynamic is definitely a thing to try. I also try permaculture and syntropic farming practices in our school garden, and see some beautiful yet modest result. Anyway, just found your channel today and learn some good knowledge. Thanks.
You also a good person, I feel that. Good job man.

Just discovered the Maria Thuns calendar this year thanks to an accompaniment of the seed coop booklet recommending it

Thanks Aranya, if you have the time and inclination to update on your biodynamics journey as you go, it would be really interesting to see what emerges. Not too far away from buying land and trying to start an eco-community, re-gen agg project and very interested in biodynamics as a tool. 🙂🌻

Very exciting! Do you know Huxham's Cross biodynamic farm near Totnes? They've made a dramatic transformation in a few years on what was badly damaged agricultured soil. www.apricotcentre.co.uk

I couldn't find no information about using bio dynamic inputs for container garden.. could you please tell me how much cpp and cow horn manure i should mix for my container plants?? How much grams of cpp and bd500 in how many litres?? I see my local farmers using 1 kg cpp and 100 grams bd500 in 16litres of water for one acre land.. ps: i prefer to pour water into the roots and do not prefer spraying on plants..

Sorry, I have no idea about that. We don't use the preparations - not yet anyway. I'd ask here: www.youtube.com/@BiodynamicAssociation
