I honestly don't understand how people can be against the fact that the CEO of DC is an actual comic book fan. Most of the time these studios hire people who just want to make money and don't care about the characters their bringing to life. As nerd myself i cant help but get excited whenever i hear him talk about all the new projects to come
Totally agree. Someone who actually gets it. Sure, he might not interpret everything as all of the fans have done prior. But that’s true of every adaption from one medium to another 🤷🏻♂️🙂
It's because people (the fandom) have been buried in bitterness over the years. From Snyderverse to a series of flops, the DCEU became a soup sandwich of pointlessness. Where's The Batman 2? But there's a Penguin series?! Joker 2 was a bust. Superman & Lois is cancelled. I think a lot of people just refuse to put themselves out there for a DC product right now. They expect more of what's been going on.
its either, he made dark jokes 10 years ago or his movies are funny, those are the main arguments but no one talks about his passion for comics, his skills in character writing and even world building, many very stupid fans complain that his crude jokes are too far, and yet those same fans have totally said worse
@jjeteuati264 I agree it's either Gunn is a pedo or he just sucks for no reason whatsoever. I've come to realize haters will always hate regardless. Imagine some people are already saying The superman movie is gonna flop or David Corenswet will never be as good as Henry cavil when he hasn't even done anything yet. In my opinion james Gunn storytelling is the most exciting thing about the new DCU because anyone can make an action packed superhero movie but there's no consistency in the storytelling, it just falls flat
@@lusamulonga525 ye and those fans have the confidence to say TSS was a bad film. it was literally the most fun I've had in the dceu. Gunn is on par with the russo bros and jon Favreau and dare I say chris nolan and rami. Gunn takes all his projects methodically and works to heighten every aspect from the casting to the vfx to the set design, practical stunts, costumes. all with the same professionalism as nolan while not taking himself so seriously, being open to the most spontaneous changes to scripts, characters and even in casting. he has the same level of intimacy with his projects as jon favreau on the first iron man. he's like the russo bros if they could direct and write a a good film without chris evans
Pretty cool he described Superman and relatively seriousness. Of course well be getting comedic elements which are to be expected and im a big fan of Gunns comedy, however I do think Superman needs to be more serious than his other CBMs so far.
@anubhavkumar2354 wasn't nothing wrong with cavill superman he was a grounded version the best actually....if u wanna see that goofy superman u might get him this time lol
@@seaniveroni5579there was some wrong with the character of Cavill's Superman, though Cavill did a pretty decent job with the material. I'm happy we're bringing him back to his roots, though. Excited to see what Gunn can do, he's obviously a huge fan.
Good interview! I like how he highlighted the differences in tones, like between Superman which sounds like he approaced as a more serious story and something like Peacemaker that he wrote as a comedy. I'm sure there will be some levity in Superman, but it's good if the DCU has a variety of tones.
Thanks for watching and leaving such a nice and thoughtful comment too! I do agree about it feeling good to know that they are actively thinking about the tones and specific groups of audiences that will be most suitable for each new installment in the DCU. Creature Commandos might be to graphic for some, but feels like Superman will be broader (almost family friendly) and more serious. Might be really interesting to not feel like you know exactly what you'll get like the MCU have gotten the past few years.
I loved Cavils Superman but honestly after watching many of James films I could tell the huge difference between him & Snyder, looking back at it I like what James Gunn is doing with his DCU The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, Blue beetle, GOTG4, all great projects, not to glaze 😂I’m just excited for Superman, Creature Commandos & Peacemaker s2
@@5iveisHIM I agree. I liked Snyders films and even loved ZSJL. But Gunn just seems to have the skill of being able to get me emotionally invested in every project he does. Pumped for the DCU 🔥
@@BusterBarnes I cannot stand Snyder. People make fun of his slomo scenes, and I frankly don’t really care. Every director has their cliches and at the end of the day it’s all artistic expression. What I don’t like is expecting one thing from a character meant to bring comics to the big screen, and being made fun of by him for expecting that. “Superman and Batman SHOULD kill and if you disagree you’re living in a fantasy land”. Yes, Zach. Because that’s what superheroes are, fantasy.
@@BusterBarnes Yes exactly & the haters can call Superman a flop fest & criticize James Gunn all they want but he’s honestly the man the DCU needs he knows his comics he’s a huge fan of them.
I am hoping that even though Superman is family friendly, it will still have it's hard and scary moments of peril. A lot of great family movies do have moments of peril, horror, and sorrow, like The Land Before Time, Toy Story, The Incredibles, The Lion King, Beauty and The Beast, and even the DC Animated shows and movies we all grew up on like Batman the Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, Static Shock, Batman Mr Freeze Sub Zero, The Batman Vs Dracula, Superman The Animated Series, etc. Those darker moments are all what makes the victory and triumph at the end all the more powerful when you know the struggle those characters had to go through to get there.
Yeah, I agree! Would've loved him to tell me which comic books I'm missing to be able to catch up on the stories he's dying for all of us to learn more about now in the DCU :)
I'm still waiting for Batman solo movie in superhero universe, we should've got that with Affleck before Matt Reeves took over and made another Batman where he's the only hero in the world.
Gunn is developing a solo Batman movie in the DCU called the brave and the bold. It will have a story that involves the bat-family and be part of the new interconnected universe
There is not a single Superman movie, or television show that was not "pretty family friendly." I don't understand the point of declaring this. It's like declaring that this Superman movie will feature his red cape. Um...ok.
Did you not watch Man of Steel? Where Superman snapped Zod neck in front of family 🤣🤣. Did you watch Batman V Superman with Batman blowing guys heads off with a .50 cal on the Batmobile?

So kind of you to say! 🥰🙏🏻

No Snyderverse for you
After Rebel Moon's reception, I don't think that last hashtag will come in any day in the future, not even as a comic book or animation haha
Give up, the snyderverse is dead.
Get a life 😂
The snyderverese ain’t coming back cry about it.
