At least you've not had what the Barroom Brawl advent has had, the past three days have consisted of a set of dice, and two consecutive days of tokens. Which upto this point there had only been one day with tokens.
Sounds like the distribution isn't so good there. We have had two sets of dice and three sets of tokens for Deep Space Pest Control, but they have been well spaced, with plastic components distributed between.
Avalon Hill definitely did a really good job on the new terrain. I think the only piece they have made that I didn't like was the Elvish table, which I felt didn't seem quite finished in terms of detailing. It's nice that HeroQuest continues to have such a strong table presence, which was one of its original signatures.
We're going to end up with one each of every piece from their sci-fi Terrain Crate, which is a useful mix of computers, crates, tables and cupboards. Enough to at least add a little set dressing to a sci-fi environment.
Oooh! That'll be fun! That bookcase alone could be used in a number of different missions like capture the enigma or use codes foud in the desk to open a safe on the bookcase! I could go on but I'll stop for now 😅 Thank you for having this series on you channel!
I'm really enjoying following along with this. Honestly I passed on the calendar because I wasn't interested in the actual miniatures themselves, but I'm really enjoying the anticipation as well as the close-up views of the terrain. I'll see if I have (lack of) buyer's remorse after you pull the mat and rules and leave me wondering if I would have wanted the game itself 😜
I'll be honest, as far as the game goes I am hoping for the best and expecting the worst. If it's passable I will consider that a win! The main draw for me was the concept, and the fun of having a little something to open each day. It's been a few years since I had a calendar of my own! If all else fails, I had a bit of entertainment, and got some plastic bits and bobs to make use of somehow.
So what storage options are you considering for this thing when you're done? I don't know how well that box is going to hold up since it's all torn up.
That's a very good question. There is always the chance that the game isn't worth much of anything, in which case miniatures could end up magnetised in a rubber steel-lined crate, while the terrain will go into one of my terrain crates for use elsewhere. If I decide to keep the game intact, either because it's okay, or because I decide I want to preserve the original presentation, I will probably paste a sheet of thin card directly behind the doors, and then glue each door down to it. All the components will then be stored in the plastic tray, which can be slid out of the side of the box.
The stuff from the advent calendar is made by Mantic Games, it's all reissues from their 28mm Terrain Crate terrain, which was also used in their Star Saga game. For those people who were interested in getting a better idea of how that scale matches up with other ranges, I compared it to the bookcase from HeroQuest, made by Avalon Hill.
Possible. Doors 20 and 21 are large, so most likely the remaining large bits of furniture, and I am sure day 24 is going to be the player character. That only leaves 18 19, 22, and 23, one of which is a miniature and one of which is tokens. I'm thinking they would be more inclined to get the last tokens out of the way to have a strong final seven days of plastic right up to Christmas.
To be fair, mantic has an issue with scale- dungeon saga (both versions) and star sage have squares which are too small for the miniatures if you ask me. Some miniatures make others look too big or too small. So you have to take it on the chin a little. I say this as someone who has a soft spot for mantic games
The original Dungeon Saga was pretty bad, but I felt the new edition of Dungeon Saga was incredibly cramped. They could have made those boards a little bigger, especially considering that barbarian waving his axe around all over the place.
For the record I like this series well enough.
That's good to hear. Thank you.
I too am enjoying this series of videos.
Thank you. I enjoyed today more than yesterday - I think today's piece was a lot better!

The heroquest terrain is excellent, have bought extra copies of the game/expansions just for the terrain and miniatures for use in other games.

Love listening to you trying to figure out what you’ve got 😂
It's always nice to get a space thingie.
I'm loving the different types of furniture that are included in this advent-ure calendar!

Thank you for watching.
Yay, things are looking up.
A marked improvement from yesterday!
Soon your space ship will be complete 😊
All your furniture are belong to us.

And your space tax return documentation.

Well I thought the space book case looked good at first but then when you placed it next to the Heroquest bookcase then it looked a bit bad.
While the furniture is nice, it's nowhere close to the quality of HeroQuest.
Is this because the furniture is coming from the advent calendar, or is that the normal size from the core game?

I recon another miniature tomorrow - Just to break things up a bit

Maybe iys boxes of space custard cremes? Why would you need books....in spaaace.
It's just a row of Kindles nobody can find the power packs for.
You need the Enigma machine. You never know when you run into space-Nazis.
Edit: It happened again! What was that?? 😆
Seems to happen whenever I'm not looking at the camera. The run-up to Christmas is a strange time.
