My daughter loved Gumby, too, and grew up enjoying Saturday morning cartoons. I always enjoyed the swing ride; it was scary but not too scary. Please don't ever ride the Zipper, that has to be one of the most insane rides ever created.

The abandoned water park is what used to be Raging Waters & a few other water park type attractions before that.
It wasn’t the greatest but hopefully Sac can do something to that part of the fair grounds again soon.
It's funny because I was wanting to go there this summer but found out it closed last year. I'm hoping it does actually open by 2027 because it's usually wayyy less crowded than Sun Splash in Roseville which is the only other real option.
They plan to open it next year they opened the ond in san jose

I think Raging Waters was a water park franchise, there was one in Salt Lake City. They tried to switch it to another name & it was operational for a while but is now closed & is scheduled to be demolished & turned into a regular park.
It was called “Waterworld” back in the 80’s and 90’s .

I'm actually a little sad I'm not going this year because the ride selection is actually awesome! They brought out every major ride they've ever had with the exception of Magnum (which is a top top top teir ride there)

Would like you to try more of the unique odd foods at the fairs. I live in Sacramento and the gold bears are from the original state fair grounds. I wish they would have the fair when the weather is more hospitable. Love your channel.

That soccer field is home to our soccer team Sacramento Republic Football Club aka Sac Republic FC. The abandoned water park was home to Raging Waters Water Park which closed 2 years ago.
The transition time at dusk from the hot stark day into the cool breezy night with the lights if the sky n the sun setting combined with the lights if the fair coming on is my favorite time of the day n experience at the fair or carnival or park!!! Way to end the video, Carpetbagger!!!!
sad to see the water park abandoned... they used to have all day passes to this and you could go in and out all day as well as a huge pool for all.

I used to love those candy cigarettes. They have a layer of powdered sugar that you can blow into them to make them smoke. Big league chews were also a favorite and those cigars. And yet, I never smoked in my life, believe it or not. Thanks for coming to our state fair I hope you had a good time. I wish I could've bumped into you and shook your hand, but I have yet to go. I'll be there at the end of this month.
I remember those candy cigarettes they actually puffed out smoke from all the sugar I never picked up real smoking, but I went through the pack a day with those things

I recall there being two distinct types of candy cigarettes, one of which was MUCH better than the other. There was the "gum" kind that looked like individual cigarettes (and had the powdered sugar "smoke" you mention). Then there was the other kind that was just a solid sheet of hard candy with ridges that was, I guess, supposed to represent an entire pack of cigarettes if they were all fused together for some reason. The gum type made some sense; I could never figure out why they even bothered with the "cigarette" theme for the other kind.
The water park was called waterworld for decades and was a staple during the summer at Cal expo. The State Fair was a separate entity that often times coincided with waterworld. Quite a few years ago, waterworld USA was bought out by raging Waters water park and they just shut it down last year I believe. It is currently up for sale. It has been mostly non-operational for probably close to a decade because no one can seem to properly manage it anymore. It's sad in many ways, but separate from the fair. Just happens to be on the same property.

A few days after we seen your video, we live in San Francisco. We were planning to visit the fair, we loved your preview. Update we are back now, we had a blast. We stayed from opening to closing, did and seen everything including the live music, wonderful fair.
We’d always stay inside the exhibit halls because they had AC. We’d go early then leave before it got super hot. It was a lot of fun.

You actually got really lucky this year because every time I've ridden that dark ride there was almost nothing in it. They added several figures this past year I guess.

It looks like it could be a fun ride, but a few seconds in, I realized it was indeed not fun at all. And to add insult to injury, the one I rode went backwards too. 🤮. Thanks for these great vids. Lake Tahoe is very beautiful this time of year specially the wildflowers and the mountains to and waterfalls as well 🏞️🏔️🌹🦋 especially The Little mining towns hearing California and Nevada high Sierra and Topaz lake too

I bought one of those giant jaw breakers as a kid in a candy store. I liked it and kept it in a zip lock bag. I kicked it so much my tounge started bleeding and gave up the challenge lol.

Ever since you showed the carousel in Santa Cruz with the rings, all other carousels have been ruined for me
There is one also in Pennsylvania at Knoebels park. I have ridden it a few times. It is the best carousel I have ever ridden by adding that element to it.
Used to go there as a kid in the 70's!!! No where near as good now!!!

But nice coverage. I hope you enjoyed the park. It's been sparser in recent years but still has some surprises.
Today has been nuts, so I had to watch this video in several different chunks, but I'm so glad I had a long Carpetbagger video to help distract me from my stress between tasks!
Anyway, the one thing I would love to see more of in the state fair videos is the unusual fair food, even if you don't eat it. You could just walk by all the food stands and comment on the one with the most interesting offerings in each state. I'm so curious to see where you go from here!

Nice establishing shots of the Fair featuring the monorail. Some fine artistic scenes there (monorail on high, the sparkling Midway lights, the moon above).
Years ago, my wife and I married on a Saturday but due to scheduling issues our reception was on Sunday. So we invited our guests to come with us to the State Fair after the ceremony. About 30 took us up on the offer. We communally dined on State Fair food: tacos, barbecue, onion blossoms and all other kinds of fried veggies, topped off with funnel cakes and cinnamon rolls.
And then the evening was completed with fireworks. We could not ask for a better ending to our wedding day.

Hi. Quick observation in regards to the tram ride. I haven't been to the fair in a few years, but I distinctly remember that as you were leaving the station, a pre-recorded "tour guide" would start. The guide would usually be a news anchor from news 10, who coincidentally sponsored the tram ride as well. If this all sounds familiar to you: please comment

We saw the magic carpet... It was "cute" at first but lasted WAY too long. (I felt so bad for the poor guy inside!) The rest of their performance was way more entertaining.
Thanks for taking us along. I most likely will never make it to that fair. The dark ride you rode is one of the best I have seen so far as a fair attraction. Most are rather simple while this one had some unique scenes.

I have been to the California State Fair once, about 10 years ago so thank you for this video! I really like it. I like that you took the mono rail, (I did not take the mono rail when I went), you stopped to see the animals which I really like and didn’t do. I also got just thoroughly distracted by the rides, and the food. It’s good to know there’s so much more to see at the fair! I did however, take the old times photos that was so much fun! Take care ❤

I’ve lived in Cali all my life. I’m currently 41 and I never knew about a state fair. And I grew up loving roller coasters and going to parks. Only knew of the country fair in Pomona.

37:34 there is a Maglev in China that I think hits 500mph. Maybe its list in Km/hr so it might be like 350mph or so

Coolest part was seeing that monorail, I think the only other of that manufacturer still in operation is the one at Hersheypark. They use to have one at Magic Mountain too, but it closed many years ago, and Hersheypark actually bought the old trains.
