And that he is actually perfectly able to reach those notes, but he was not 100% confident and was internally nervous to sing the higher notes, which created unnecessary tension in his vocal chords. So basically it was psychological effect rather than his actual lack of capacity.

I agree in what you said and I add when you can stand with no mic and no music and you sing a song and you sound good then you can say you are a singer, if you are a professional singer using professional mics there is always the possibility you are as good as the sound engineer behind the console. There is no real live music on TV just like there is no real reality TV...
