Man, I love your intro and the music - it's like I'm watching a show on the PBS channel from the late 70s in an alternate reality :) This game looks awesome, hopefully it wasn't kickstarter only and I can actually buy it!
Was not a kickstarter, but the game feels like a deluxe version. When I bought it I actually asked whether that was a deluxe version, and they were like, no, that is the one and only retail version.
Looks like a good game. I do love me some Legends of Andor. On a side note. Your camera work is fantastic on this video. Well done in showing the whole of the game.
It's a gorgeous game, moves fast, and it's just full of charm. So far I like it best at two players. We do sometimes house rule that a movement action is two spaces depending on the player and the difficulty level. Happy to see this one get some more love! I feel it gets overlooked as some reviews labeled it as "simple" or too swingy. There's also an expansion that looks to be released next year in the US, so I'm looking forward to that.
After the first playthrough, where admittedly it is easy to quickly fail by overlooking something, players should realise that completing the assignments and paying attention to tasks in the chronicle should give them a very good chance of success. Of course ultimately it's a matter of luck with the final roll. I really like the pace of this game, you often move a couple of spaces a time and it just zips along. The production is simply beautiful and exudes quality throughout and I can see the Michael Menzel comparisons (not played Ghost Stories). Filed with Legends of Galzyr on my shelf (good to see that particular game now getting some traction).
Looks amazing! It seems a step up from ghost story and I love that it is telling a story while still maintaining the core resource management gameplay. Also Those chronicles cards probably can be used for solo RPGs too :)
I really like the wooden player tokens look. The usual plastic mini figures are way too detailed and until they are painted, they just look like green, brown, or grey blobs. I wouldn't ever have time to paint minis anyway. Lol But the wooden meeple designs just look appropriate to a board game and you can easily see what it represents.
Pretty nice game. My only big gripe with it is that I wish the player turn would last longer with more things to do. If the incidents were bigger, with multiple stuff to do to solve them, I think this game would be an 8,5.
I have been on the fence about this game since its release as I like the premise but know it is one I would have to play solo and it definitely feels a group game. It got localized here so at least I have the option if I decide to buy it anyway ..that box cover looks so nice.
No clue. I've only played a few times. However, I rarely take replayability into account with my games, so I'm probably not the person to ask. For me, if a game gives me a great experience even one time, it can be a great game. You can play each story with different assignments (goals), so that's like a year's worth of gaming for me (1 or 2 a month - but I don't even play my favorite games that often). There are also all the different incident and event cards, which add some variety. By the time I do that, I'll have completely forgotten what happened in that first game.
You can mix up the incident decks to provide more variety and challenge for any given Chronicle. Also, the pacing will change as the movement of the "problem pawn" is random. It's not one to play intensively, but to bring out from time to time, so I would say no, plenty of replayability.
@@TheDungeonDive Yeah my assumption was that maybe it had hidden information or something. I didn't understand it either. Oh well better late than never.
It is definitely soloable but I would hesitate to true solo it, but with how easy managing characters are that shouldn’t be an issue . The only “difficulty” with soloing is technically you are not supposed to know the reward for completing a challenge, so normally another person would read out the challenge . But honestly you just cover up that part with your hand or something. But overall you can definitely solo this game
Tough to beat Vincent Dutrait art but those meeples are glorious. They remind me of Ralph Bakshi's work or the Banner Saga video games art style.
Thank you again for another amazing video, Daniel! You rule!
My pleasure!

That was the vibe I was going for - actually old VHS logos. :) I got the game from Amazon.
@@TheDungeonDive lol, yes, old VHS is spot on!

@@DarkwingUser Thanks for the info! Yea, the overall quality looks really solid and wooden dice... I do like wooden dice :)
Man, you hit the nail on the head w/that description. 💁🏻

I love how zippy the game is.
I might check this out, looks cool.
Those buildings are perfect for solo rpging :-)
Dunno if it's related, but John Grumph wrote an Oltréé TRPG in the early 2010s, iirc.
Interesting!
Yes, this is based on French RPG.
This is why l should not judge a game by it's cover. Thanks for the video!
In this case, both the cover and the game are awesome!

For me the briskness it's a huge selling point. It's such a snappy, fast playing game.

@@wilsn8799 I've been playing solo and liking it quite a bit! Just don't read the consequences when you turn an incident card.
Talk about a big middle finger to the BG plastics industry. 😍
Haha! Take that, Dupont! ;)
Is there a problem with replayability once you are very familiar with the Chronicles? Are there multiple pathways to solving a chronicle?

Mike Delisio has the highest IQ in DT. Just kidding it is a running gag though :D .
LOL! He's the best addition to the Dice Tower.
Mike is huggable
I looked at this at Gencon and the person working the booth said it was not soloable... I just ordered it based on your review.
That's really strange. It's a co-op game. Almost all co-op games are inherently solo games.

Not my cup of tea but great upload!
This looks really cool. Is this a Top 50 game candidate?
Probably not.
