      Oh wow so Warner Bros actually had that whole block built and all the houses on it just for filming purposes ? That is so cool. Why on Earth would they want to tear it all down ? Surely they can still use it for future films. Even if it is on a different channel i almost fell over when i saw you posted a 2nd video in the same day lol. Double the pleasure !! 😎✌😎✌

      If you have ever lived in California, you will know that the state has no interest in historical preservation. Big $$$ property development contracts supercede anything historical. Here in San Diego, plans are already being made to tear down and develop historical Seaport Village for more high-rise condos.

      These aren’t actually real houses. But studio set houses. It lacks basic functionality like indoor plumbing and toilets. Even if you try to preserve and register it as a historical site. Who would pay for it?

    • @jfmezei
      @jfmezei 2 роки тому +17

      This is likely why they put restrictions on the vodeographers to not publish until it was to late to save it, This could have cause worldwide uproar to preserve it and would cause a lot of legal trouble to a lot that has likely already been sold needing to cancel contract etc. (or delay project by years).

So I've seen about every notable location... been in every notable building, at least once. I can't under state the loss of history that's taken place in the last 35+ years, in terms of film making. The industry and the corporations that own it now, have zero respect for film making history. None. It always amazes me how you can find a handful of volunteers in some little town, who make more effort to preserve history... than an industry that's made trillions of dollars.

At some point this was the old Columbia lot and I think Sony bought it and now Warner Brothers. TV shows included Bewitched, Father Knows Best, I Dream of Jeannie, The Donna Reed Show, Gidget, Hazel and Dennis the Menace. The Three Stooges filmed exteriors there all the way back to the thirties. Also, The Fuller Brush Man and The Fuller Brush Girl used that lot. Fascinating!

    I have a personal memory attached to pretty much every frame of this. The last 30 times I visited the ranch was to pull set dressing from the many out buildings (all part of the Main Lot Property Dept). Within the first :30 seconds of the tour, I dressed Halloween skeletons in all the front yards of those facades and we wrapped the night doing night shots in the pool. Pretty Little Liars Season 3. 2012. My overall attitude toward Hollywood is bitter sweet. There’s a lot of evil manifest “above the line” and a lot of almost slave-like sacrifice below the line. Gave that damned industry 16 years of my life. I said it then and I will say it now: you can love TV and film but it will NEVER love you back.

    Glad you guys got to film this! Amazing to see where so many of our cherished movies and shows were filmed. And you’re right. Very rare to find any behind the scenes video from here. To my knowledge there were no public tours there. So cast, crew and employees were the only people permitted on property and under strict non-disclosure agreements. So they couldn’t film or share video or pictures from here. This is very special. Sadly another Hollywood gem to the landfill forever. A la MGM, and parts of Universal backlot.

    That was such a cool video! As far as the Christmas Vacation interiors, I watched some of the Christmas Vacation interior scenes side by side against your video of the home interiors and I actually think that a good portion was indeed filmed inside that house. And upon review, although I recall the Griswold house looking large in the movie (as a kid), it doesn't seem all that large now. I'm guessing that the bedroom scenes were soundstage and also the scene where he unleashes the Christmas tree. After that scene the tree is much smaller and could definitely have been in that alcove that you filmed. In the movie, there was also a wall separating the living room from that room with the fish tank where the grandfather is reading to Cousin Eddie's daughter. On the other side, there is a wall separating the dining room from I guess what would have been the kitchen.
    Great video! You guys are lucky that you got to walk around in there. I've done the Warner Brothers studio tour twice now, but I think most of the time we had to stay inside the trolley thing and weren't able to go exploring like you guys did.

    You guys are younger than I am so you associated some of the homes with different shows than I did. The Lethal Weapon house you pointed out was also the location for Hazel's house and Gidget's house although the facade has changed somewhat. It stood right next door to the Bewitched home. Also in that same neighborhood is the house of the Patridge Family, Dennis the Menance and the homes of Father Knows Best, Mr. Wilson (from Dennis the Menace) and the I Dream of Jeannie all shared the same house. Again, the facade has changed on a lot of these. The Monkees filmed some scenes where that pool is located. There used to be a big fountain there and it was also used in the opening credits of the Friends TV show.

    I never knew that Screen Gems/Columbia Television used the Warner Lot. I thought Columbia had their own lot. You could always see Darrin and Samantha's house from Major Nelson's and Jeannie's. The Park area was used constantly in the first season of the Monkees. Any Screen Gems TV show on Antenna TV from the '50s and 60's used the Warner Backlot. Father Knows Best, The Donna Reed Show, Dennis the Menace, Hazel, Gidget, The Flying Nun, Here Come the Brides, and The Partridge Family.

      iIt was actually the columbia pictures back lot before it became the warner ranch , after they moved the studio to save money in the 70 s colunbia picture moved from sunset & gower to warner bros and they called it the Burbank studios , after columbia was bought by sony they moved into the old MGm studios. the lot became surplus for property for Columbia/ sony pictures so they sold it Warner Brothers thats how it became known as the Warner ranch

      I remember watching several episodes of the Monkees where they were stuck in a ghost town, in Mexico, and at Mike's aunt's ranch, and I noticed some of the buildings that were also used in some of the Three Stooges shorts. The Three Stooges filmed many of their shorts at Columbia, especially at the ranch up until Columbia phased out its film shorts, then television kept them in the public eye for decades. It's sad they are being demolished, a part of the film and early TV history is being forgotten in the name of corporate greed.

    Great to see, yet sad to see. One correction. The house where Darren and Samantha Stephens lived on Bewitched is referred to in the video as the Sabrina house. The character Samantha had a cousin, Serena, so I think that is getting confused. That façade was used not only for Bewitched but for the TV show Gidget, as well as being the house where the Bellows lived on I Dream of Jeannie. It was also used for a Jerry Lewis film, and the movie Brian’s Song. In all of those instances, the same interior soundstage set was used, with minor modifications. It’s my understanding that the studio had a requirement to match the exterior with the same interior.

    To think the back of the house only got boarded up recently, it was wide open to the elements.
