Many afternoons in second, third and fourth grade spent dreaming of this set.
I don’t think you were the only one! 😊 Thanks for watching!
And the skull eye schooner 😞
Yeah, I get that!
By the way, if you are not a 100% only on-brand lego collector and just like the ship, you can still buy Enlighten Brick copy of it for like $20.
When I got this set back in 1989. I never realized this would become such an iconic set. But I did think it was something special. For it’s the only set I never really played with nor tear apart. And carried it into my adulthood . Sadly around 2000 I somehow lost track of it. I think my ex wife unwittingly thru it in the trash not thinking much about it. But ironically this past summer I came across the box and instructions cleaning out my parents home after both had past. I guess I can think my mom for this . Because she unknowingly to me repurposed the box to store old family photos in. Thanks mom you’ll always be missed.
I can see why she's an ex wife
@@StrahinjaVilimonović-xk6ig hahaha that's more than reason enough
Who throws away LEGO ??? Everyone knows it’s expensive. Like she must have been from the moon or something.
Wow this brings back memories. I got this set for Christmas in 1989 and absolutely loved it. My parents still occasionally bring up the fact that they were up until 5am building the thing lol.
You MUST get the new Black Seas Barracuda remake. It's absolutely a love letter to this set. I watched this video a few months ago and I came back just to tell you this :)
@Eric Cartman I agree so much about the sails. I chose the bay build rather than the ship because of that. But the bay itself is so wholesome as it is, I am happy with the set.
I also like the original one better. Mostly because of the way the 2 decks in the middle were designed. You can see and acess the lower deck, while ther is also an upper deck, at the same time.
Yeah but he’s do no the OG sets… but still I got the remake and it’s AMAZING
And the 90 Years Of Play set.
I’m so happy I can get a version of this set in the new pirates of barracuda bay set !
For its size the ship is quite accurate with the open deck. Mostly ships of this century had a 'weatherdeck', exposed to the weather.
Great review!
Good to know! Thanks for the info, and for watching! 😎👍
To me, this is exactly the best part of this ship. No other lego ship was like this, and it just looks and plays great. The other sips were either completely open and empty in the middle (SES for example), which looks plain, empty and fragile. Or, they had a completely closed upper deck, so you could not see or access the cannons, unless you take it apart, which makes it look open and empty again (as in the BSB remake or in the imperil flagship). But here, in this original BSB, you could have both at the same time: Much detail, 2 decks, walkways that remind me of those in the knight's fortresses, and you could easily access the cannons. Ingenious and also realistic, as you pointed out!
So, this section makes this ship my favourite. :)
As a kid i begged... begged my parents to buy me this, but they never had the money. Many years later, i spent my first paycheck on it, jaja.
Nice review the Black Seas Barracuda is a legend for a reason and I really hope that LEGO releases a updated Icons version of the Black Seas Barracuda similar to the recent Lion Knights' Castle and Galaxy Explorer
They already did, Barracuda Bay
There is barracuda bay
I was too young when this was originally released, but my parents did get me this vessel for Christmas in 2002 when it was rereleased as part of the Lego Legends series. To this day, she remains the greatest ship of my little fleet and is displayed proudly in my living room along with the Imperial and Armada flagships.
First thing to do this year? Watching a classic lego review. No regrets.
Greetings from Germany :D
😄 Thanks for watching! Glad I could help kick off the year!
@@TrikBrix I Gotta feeling now that I'm back on that lego trip I'm gonna blow so much money this year 😂
😆 Yeah, that’s the way it goes!
@@TrikBrix How much money did this UA-cam Channel cost you up to this point? (Sets and production) would be interesting to know
Gosh... I have no idea. And I probably don’t want to know, lol. The production side isn’t too much; I use my iPhone and iPad (which I already owned) for all filming/editing, and I compose and record all of my own music, and design all my own graphics, so other than lighting I was able to keep start up costs almost nonexistent.
As for all the sets... yeah, I don’t want to think about the money I’ve spent on those, lol. 😄
@TrikBrix Will you upload videos again? I'm a big fan, and I love the dedication you put into the channel, Greetings from Argentina!
To me this is the holy grail of Lego. I always wanted it, but it was above my parents budget. First I got the Black Monarch which was cheaper, and when the pirate lineup came out I got the El Dorado fortress instead. The ship was just too expensive and the small blue ship I didn't really want. I do want one in my home some day. I still have all my LEGO stored away in parts.
This is the greatest LEGO review channel on UA-cam ever! !! I am looking forward to watching more of the videos you make.
someone on the fb marketplace in the UK had this boxed and some other gems listed for FREE. One of my best finds ever managed to snag the lot.
Very sophisticated review! I love how commited you are to these gems, I also want to collect them one day.
And this set...the best Lego has ever created. Period.
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it! And Pirates is one of (if not my most) favorite themes to collect, so I highly recommend it! Thanks for watching! 😎👍
Great intro :-D Great work covering one of the classics! Great tip on the flags - those things are really brittle! Your set looks to be in pretty good condition! I remember seeing this in the toy shop window and being very impressed! I wish I was more into pirates back then! Thanks for sharing a great in-depth review and keep up the good work!
Thanks so much for watching - I’m glad you enjoyed it! And after seeing so many used sets for sale with broken flag clips, I felt the need to address the situation. 😄 Happy New Year!
Couldn't afford this awesome ship back in 89'. Still couldn't afford it in 2022 lol.
Always had a soft spot for Redbeard ever since I played Lego Racers. I remember back in 2015 when I was on a trip in London with my family we went in the big Hamleys toy store and when got to the floor with all the Lego stuff they had a display of the new pirate ship in a glass case, I saw the pirate captain in the set, saw he looked like Redbeard and I was thinking ''Wait is that Redbeard?!'' Turns out I was right! They brought Redbeard back in the 2015 pirate sets with a nice updated look!
Yes! They actually changed his name to ‘Brickbeard’ then, but he’s always been Redbeard to me! 😎👍
@@TrikBrix Actually Brickbeard is the captain from the 2009 Pirate sets and is a completely separate character
A truly legendary Lego set. Fantastic review, I miss the old Legoland and System words on the box.
Definitely a legend! And I’d love to see Lego do some retro packaging, like so many other toy manufacturers are doing these days.
Huzzah! Great work, and a worthy celebtration of this classic
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it! 😎👍
I love this all time classic set! And i have one;)
One of the greatest, most majestic Lego sets ever! Thanks for watching! 😎👍
Damn, I'm no fan of lego boats but thissss set is a cut above
Agreed! Hopefully we’ll see something like this again someday... Thanks for watching! 😎👍
Thanks for bringing back the old pirate theme! I subbed!
You’re welcome, glad you’re enjoying it! And thank YOU for subscribing! 😎👍
I love the opening scene
Thanks! If you didn’t already know, the dialogue is from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride from Disneyland/World. Took a long time to animate the talking skull, but I’m glad you enjoyed it! 😎👍
TrikBrix that’s a cool fact
TrikBrix and thanks for being nice in your replies thats sadly rare in UA-cam videos now , good on you
I did get the black seas barracuda (bsb) in '89. I played a lot with it. I loved that set. In '94 i got the skull eye schooner (ses). Also played alot with it. Bsb looked more elegant design. I was dissapointed with some details in ses,-only 4 guns,i was expecting 8. Front crew compartments where not so elegantly done like in bsb. And no walk deck above cannons. Also i liked more wooden doors of captain cabine in bsb, than white square doors in ses.
What i liked in Ses - it had a compass, one more mast, working rudder ,4 cannons on one side and captain cabin was opened by the side, meaning it was more practical..
The Black Seas Barracuda, while not the biggest of the 3 that were in the first wave of Pirates, it is the most memorable of the 3 for me. I did not own any of them, but had the opportunity to play with all of them, and for some reason this one stuck with me the most, I would say the Caribbean Clipper is a close second.
2:30 if flag's clip is already broken, you can glue the flag directly to the bar ; i know glue lego is completely illegal but this is a special case ;)
i do remember when i have it. if you use the soldier ship together you getting even bigger ship back then.
Really nice video, best review on 6285 on youtube.
Thank you! I tried my best to give her the attention she deserves. 😎👍
TrikBrix keep up the good work 👍
I’m gonna try my best! 😊👍
You have a good channel! Keep it up and the subscribers will eventually add up.
Thanks so much! Glad you like it! 😎👍
I bought a box of vintage Lego for £40 and it came with this and about 50 other sets from the early 90s late 80s
Dang you would love barracuda bay
The yellow slope piece behind the naked torso figure was only ever produced for this set.
just grabbed my BSB so it can sit next to me while watching this review :)
That’s so awesome! Right on! 😎👍
Love your channel, was so lucky to get this set in Legoland in 2004, there they sold some of the old set
This ship is the Holy Grail of the Lego fans.
I'm curious about is it possible to make a real deck with black modified grille plates?
Also i really like your editing style and your detailed reviews.
You deserves more subs and views sir.
Thanks so much! And I actually just put together a custom deck for the Skull’s Eye Schooner, which can be seen in my review of that set. I still need to make one for the BSB, though.
Thanks again, and thanks for watching! 😎👍
Just bought it online for 180$
Nice! That’s a pretty great deal - congrats! 😎👍
Sooo glad you added comments back! Does this mean you will be coming back with more videos?? :)
Here something really cool, I research the parts for this set and found that that flag use for the Cannon Covers (Which is really cool) has a rare color that I Never heard of that Is called Rust? This color for the flag was use in This set and 6542 Launch & Load Seaport from Classic Town. Have you ever heard of that color?
Interesting! I’ve heard of that color (just from going through color charts on BrickLink), but didn’t know it was that rare! 😎👍
Bought a used but very good condition ship today! Came with box but no instructions. I think I did well at $150
Best Set Ever #1 🏅❤️🧸
barracuda wins for me:
1. I had it
2. played 10000 hrs with it
How come at 6:47 the place to put the plank is 3 studs wide on the port side but the starboard side has 5 studs open? I dreamed of this set. I never got it, but my pareants got me 6277 (Imperial Trading Base), 6271 (Imperial Flagship), 6268 (Renegade Runner) all during Christmas 1993, and a bunch of older Imperial sets like 6263 (Imperial Outpost) and 6267 (Lagoon Lock-Up) from 1990 to 1992.
2 figurehead questions: 1 is it based on the pirate wench
2 is the ship flesh colored? Considering minifigs have yellow skin
My favorite LEGO Pirate is Captain Redbeard!
Mine too, Erik! 😎👍
I collect LEGO Pirate Sets!
I remember racing him in Lego Racers
Me too, matey! ☠️ It’s such a great theme with so much more potential - I really wish Lego would bring the Pirates back in grand fashion!
Indeed. I have all of Pirate Sets from 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2004, 2009, 2011, 2015 and 2017! That is.... My 1993 sets and my 1997 sets are not complete yet. All I need is The Skull's Eye Schooner and Pirates Perilous Pitfall. I almost done with my 2004 sets, my 2009 sets and 2011 sets, Including LEGO Pirates of he Caribbean.
Wish the Pirates of the Caribbean sets offered such diverse ship options.
Very interested in purchasing a set still in the box. Any recommendations?
Well after watching this video if i was ever lucky enough to buy that ship i could remove the cannons and use that space for cargo
I had this!
Where did u go Jamie
what part of the world got the non-firing cannons?
USA got the non-firing (from mexico factory), europe got the firing version (from denmark factory)
I have this set not the New release the original, its sad cos few peaces are missing sane as the book)(i donno the right Word) (Btw, finnish) so its not fully original but almost.
Nice! I usually use Bricklink to find any missing pieces, it’s a great parts resource! Thanks for watching! 😎👍
This one is cool, the new one is just lame
One of the best reviews of this set. Love how substantivell and thoroughly you went over the parts of the ship. Looking forward to more quality content
Thank you, Clarence! Glad you enjoyed it! 😎👍
Let me start by thanking you for your great videos! I'm shocked you don't have more subscribers. As a kid I was a huge fan of Lego and I just recently dug your my old sets. While I wasn't even born, when this and most of the vintage sets you present on your channel came out, I still have always had huge love for the old Lego sets, esp. Western and Pirates, though the Black Seas Barracuda is actually the only set I own out of these themes.
And it is my favorite Lego Pirate ship and one of my favorite sets ever. I much prefer it to the Skull's Eye Schooner and even more to the 2009 and 2015 ships for various reasons. The level of detail and realism, the color scheme, the lack of skulls all over the place (I really dislike Lego putting the skull emblem on the sails), the attempt of creating a deck (I think the route Lego went with is great, you have access to the canons but also have sort of an upper deck to pose your minifigures). And one of my favorite parts of the ship is the use of strings, esp. the one running from the bowsprit to the rear. Especially the 2009 and 2015 ship don't hold up in that regard. And you get four cannons and they even come with nice little wheels, which really adds to the level of realism this set is at. The SES includes more playfeatures so kids might prefer it but to me visuals go over play features on such sets and the BSB just wins it here for me.
Keep up your great work, your videos are really a pleasure to watch!
Best regards,
David
Thanks so much! It’s nice to know that these sets aren’t appreciated just through the haze of childhood nostalgia, and that younger fans also enjoy them.
And if you had to pick just one classic set to own, the BSB is definitely one of the best you could choose!
Thanks again for your kind words, and for watching! 😎👍
So i don't blame you for birning out of running dry on content but what you've contributed is so nice and wholesome to listen to over and over again. If you ever decide to come back, i wholeheartedly support it but if you dont, i keep periodically coming back to hear you talk about the pirates and adventures sets
I come back to these also. He has great reviews.
Cmon man! You can review the Dino island sets better than bricktzar ever could!
Fantastic review! Despite this being the original classic, I prefer the Schooner. The use of black, white and red seems to be more fitting for a pirate crew, in my opinion. It also has an extra sail in the back, which gives it a more complete look. It's a close call, though! And to be honest: I was born the year the Barracuda was released. So the Schooner was the one smiling at me in catalogues when I was old enough to look at them. :)
Despite the backlash I may receive, lol, I think I have to agree with you, Glenn. The Schooner just looks more menacing and pirate-like to me. The only thing I’m not crazy about are the green gunport covers, but that’s a pretty easy mod. But like you said, it’s almost too close to call! I was born in ‘85, so I was really too young to have the Barracuda when it came out, but like you, I definitely spent my share of hours gazing at the SES... 😎👍
I got the 2020 Black Sea burracuda
To be honest I always love the skulls eye schooner the best. I was able to finally buy that set in 2014 cuz I wanted that since I was in middle School and I'm glad I was able to finally get it.
I’ve come to feel the same way; the BSB is undoubtedly an amazing, classic, milestone set, but... the Skull’s Eye is my favorite of the two. It just feels more piratey.
Thanks for watching! 😎😎
Recently created a floor for the upper deck rests on the cannons can be removed easily to access them. Also added a hatch at the front to cover the open hole.
I love the use of Jolly Roger in the opening. A pirate's life for me
hi, I inherited 40 pounds of lego and have been sorting/cleaning up. I have researched a bit- this is the first video I've looked up as there were obvious pirate parts (flags, treasure coins etc) all throughout. So with this help (and some sites) I will collect all the pieces I can from the original black seas barracuda set. There's no box etc etc...Will it be worth my time to do this and sell it on eBay????
For sure you could net 300 dollars of it
I built the 90 Years Of Play version while watching this.
Mid-thirties and my parents found this old set a couple of years ago in the old family home. It’s now rebuilt and sitting proudly in my conservatory, it’s a thing of beauty!
Great review. Still my all time fav set. LEGO must do/release something to commemorate the Pirates anniversay, surely? A shame they neglect this theme so much as was one of the best/classics
I’ve got my fingers crossed that they’ll do SOMEthing... but I haven’t heard any rumors yet, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I’d love to see them give it the same care and attention they give something like Ninjago.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it! 😎👍
Where are you man? We need more reviews!!
6285 Good. Best pirate LEGO
It’s an awesome set! Thanks for watching! 😎👍
$110 back in '89 is around $230-250 today... wild to think Lego has actually gotten cheaper.
i have got lego black seas barracuda and it has been the best toy ever when I was a child
That’s awesome! It was amazing back then, and still is! Thanks for watching! 😎👍
Pirates, hands down was one of the best themes they ever did. Along with space and town.
Agree
Better than anything done now
Nice review, thank you. I don’t see, why putting the string through the last hole of the front sail would put pressure on it since you can just losen the string a little. It doesn’t look complete this way imo. 😉 but good job other than that!
I own this!!!
In all honesty, if I were to pick just ONE of either the Black Seas Barracuda or the Skull's Eye Schooner, I'd go for the Barracuda. Sure the Schooner has a working rudder and rotating cannons and the ultra-rare pirate minifig making it extra special, but the colour scheme doesn't stand out as much as the Barracuda and from what I can tell the Barracuda is a bit cheaper than the Schooner, though not by much. Again both are beautiful ships, but for me the Barracuda wins for having a more elaborate Captain's cabin.
Hey Jamie I'm getting the black this Hey Jamie I'm getting the black barracuda on Easter today
I like elements of both the Barracuda and the Schooner.(Not including modifications).
Barracuda I like the open/lower deck. I like the storage bays. It's got the anchor + winch. I like the brown doors.
The schooner I like the poop decks more modern stuff and design. Minifigs,
But overall I think I like the Barracuda more. Although it's tough.
I’m wishing for the Black seas barracuda for Christmas I’m gonna rename it the Black seas bounty\Great video !
I had this as a child. Played a lot with it for sure! I still have it, but the figures are in storage in my brother's house somewhere.
I have it ,it's and from the best ones what I have from my Lego collection, thanks for the video.. take care
I had this as a kid. Its only flaw is the three or four piece hull. Should have been bricks but lego made it huge pieces.
They stopped making this when I wanted it. Got the skulls eye schooner though
LOOOVE this video. Some awesome Saturday night entertainment. 😁
Great Review. Thanks for the tip about sliding the flags on.
What do you think of the new pirates of barracuda bay set that can turn into a reboot of this set
I was one of those disappointing kids. The trauma of not getting this set is still with me ;)
Trust me, I know the feeling, lol... 😄
yarrrrrrrrr
i had all of that set only 6276 & 6270 i didn´t got back in the days
❤
Just thought about this for the first time in thirty years. Lovely thing
Have you seen the Lego set, Pirates of Barracuda Bay?
This would look great next to the new barracuda
If you want make the ship look more menacing you could switch out it's sails for the Sculls Eye's, though I don't know if the sails would be too happy about being stretched or torn during the process.
Hmm, that’s an interesting idea! I might have to try it sometime. 😎👍
Great ship! Awesome review!
Thank you! 😎👍
Whats that jingling in the background
The railing is highier on one side of the shie
Yeah... I built it wrong and didn’t realize till after I’d filmed the video, lol. Good eyes! 😎👍
@@TrikBrix thanks
This is impressive even 34 years later
Great video with tons of info. I plan to make some of my own videos and this was very helpful thank you.
Awesome! Glad I could help! 😎👍
Skull’s Eye Schooner!
Wow this video is amazing. Shot and edited very well. I definitely liked and subscribed. I just bought 80 pounds of LEGO and this set was in there. Piecing it together now.
You need to do barracuda Bay now
Wow, 30 years!!! Making me feel old lol. I had this ship, I was the envy of the neighborhood with actually having got this for Christmas '89. Thanks for uploading this, I forgot how detailed it actually was.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! I was really hoping LEGO would do something to commemorate the 30th Anniversary, but I haven’t heard any rumors yet.
@@TrikBrix I was hoping over the years for a re-release of it but have never seen one. I hope they do something like that in the future.
Me too! I’d LOVE to see a UCS style Barracuda!
