When my parents had a steel roof estimated the guy initially did a remote estimate with some software he had, it was higher than the job ended up being, he said that weeds out the tire kickers, once they were still interested he came out and did a proper estimate. Ended up doing the roof and did a great job too
My uncle owns a roofing company that I work for and whenever homeowners tell him that they want a roof over the old shingles he always tries to talk them out of it. With adding another layer of shingles on top of another layer it adds more weight onto the roof than what it does for just one layer of shingles. A lot of times you don't even know if any of the plywood may need to be replaced if you go with shingle over the old shingles. It has more disadvantages. The only advantage is that it can save the homeowner or homeowners some money. Now if the homeowner or homeowners insist that they want a shingle over roof then that's what they're gonna get. The last time we did a shingle over job was like a couple of years ago. Most of time though we don't do shingle over jobs.
I always visit the site if possible, I like to look in the attics as well. It also is a useful sales tool, it demonstrates that I care about their project and needs.
I believe in rip to the deck re dry in the roof with proper underlayment then install all new roof and flashings I never do a go over I believe they are just B's always do new
Did the storm that came through that night help the removal process? lol. I wish you worked up here in Jasper County. That storm ripped some shingles off of my roof and upon repairing them I noticed my shingles are in pretty poor condition. I would totally have you come out and look if you serviced this area!!
In answer to your question, I visit all potential customers and sell my brand and which/what products I use to ensure our success. Need no worries for either party. As far as that roof, WOW. Thanks for the video.
Initial estimate high via email and if they accept I sometimes go and confirm my quote, but I do not do roofing. I always ask for photos and most homeowners cant provide roof photos.
Interesting timing, my house is in the process of getting a reroof with a metal stamped shingle. Only one layer though and the under layer was in good shape. Supposedly a 50 year warranty so shouldn’t have to worry about labor removing. Great video

I know you said you don’t like going to those places with 10-14 layers, but it would make for an awesome video.

Blow everything up , start again from the foundation .
Thanks for the informative video. Happy holidays to you and your family, Brian. Looking forward to next year!
Lol I couldn't fall asleep at night knowing it is snowing and there are 14 layers above my head I've heard of 3 but holy s**t man
14 layer? Holy crow. I'm in Michigan and the most layers I've seen is 7. That's outrageous
Very informative

I have always heard if you do a recover it cuts the new life of the roof in half. But I’m not to sure that’s just what I heard. @ben Sherman
@@jacobgonzales8867 still would be under warranty in theory.
Sell the job in person for sure.
Wait 10 -15 layers what ?
I know, gotta be kidding me 14 layers
No, I have seen 14 layers in Logansport IN. I wanted NO part of that job.

How did the rafters not collapse?
I know right. Holy moly that's a lot of layers. I never seen that many before. The most layers of shingles that I've helped tear off was 4 layers.
🤐
I recorded a worse roof then that. Metal roof.
