And I still remember when I first saw that boss fight, I had a friend in school (who was the reason I started WoW btw.) that was always ahead of me with the lvl, and I came to visit him that day and he was in the middle of this ZF fight. I just thought I need to get there asap lol. Must've been 2007 cause thats when we started.

@@OliWinchester Yeah, yours aswell. I don't know if WoW ever could potentially be nearly as good as it was, since I'm not a kid anymore and times are so different now but I'm 100% sure it could still be so much better than it is right now.

@@noraelan Some Goblin settlements have an Engineering theme to it, so they included "Gadget" (device, apparatus) into the name. The -zan is spoken like other locations which are Goblin related, like the starting isle Kezan.

@double_joseph327 considering it's a goblin hub full of machines, engineers and GADGETS it's maybe quite possible that it's pronounced gadget-zan.
It's not like they don't have other places named after engineering terms (Ratchet, mudsprocket, stramwheedle )

theres simply zero company gonna do the same thing again. make a trio single player game for setting up the storyline, then prepare multiple years for a huge world to put all single players in. Thats once in a life time game exp, it was so good.

They killed the World in Classic. Now it's chopped up into a dozen layers thanks to the devs' obsession with megaservers. They're shoving players off into their little instances. Even WORLD bosses are going to be in instances in SoD. That's insane. The idiots running Classic should all be fired. They have no clue what made the old game so great.
The best reward for discovery is when you find an unsuspecting cloth wearer from the opposite faction as a rogue.

Running down stranglethorns road the first with no mount was pretty crazy.
Accurate however you forgot two important things. First, the nightmare incursion addon is basically mandatory or the group will KICK. Second, the other players will be looking up your raid parse with Warcraftlogs Archon addon to read your parse by mouseover and then KICK.
dont forget to link achievements and start leveling your 6th alt for our tertiary side content raid farming
The comparison between Tanaris and Tatooine is something I forgot I did when I discovered the place. It also too me more than 5 years to know how to pronounce GadGetzan because I used to pronounce GatZetzan.
Took me about 5 full years to realize that... "Gadget" + Zan... Felt so stupid.

I remember moving from Tanaris to Un'Goro Crater and loving it! I've always found dinosaurs cool so doing all the quests in un'goro was a lot of fun for me.

This is exactly why I stopped playing SoD.
Instead of adding new areas and new missions for leveling and DISCOVERING new things, all they do is add new skills, a dungeon converted into a raid and an area converted to PvP.
I deeply hope that by the lvl 60 it will change and we can go to Hyjal etc.

Yes. I agree. That's basically what we all wanted, I think. New quests that could further the lore of these classic zones... Bring back the thrill of exploring the world. It's not a missed oportunity yet, because it might still happen. Who knows...
Thats thumbnail running from shimmering flats (when it was dry) down into tanaris. Simple but epic on the first run. You come over that hill and see Gadgetzan and like ahhhhhhhh so much to explore. That was great.
Man,this feels like a time capsule.
To be fair even with classic+ nobody would be running around zones questing. People don’t care, they do the fastest thing to get max level. People have a problem with FOMO and what they might miss if they dick around to much.
I mean, with the way blizzard does things the FOMO is real. I took my time enjoying myself at classic release and ended up missing out on the entire raid content. Dinged 60 when TBC released. But you know what? It was one of my best experiences playing wow and would do it at the same pace again.

Back in the day people didn't have FOMO, because they didn't have the guides on the internet, they didn't know that the content would become irrelevant and they just enjoyed playing the game for the sake of playing it, not just to beat it.

Yeah, they should have just kept adding quests, zones, dungeons and raids, instead of these instanced alternative version of the zone(nightmare incursion) where you just farm. it's good, but the former is better.
Damn, those memories... When I started back on TBC (Czech private server Anathema), I had absolutely no idea what to expect. My friend, who got my brothers and me into the game helped us catch up, I was a human warlock, the friend was gnome rogue I think (he also had a gnome mage, but I think rogue was first)... The first run to Booty Bay and then another through Barrens, Great Lift, Needles... down to Tanaris... So epic.
I remember vividly how I reached the Lift... and missed the platform and fell down. 😀

The most classic-like thing I did in SoD was having a 30 man raid group of random Paladins to get the Divine storm rune. On the step where we had to get ashes we split up into smaller groups but still worked together. We called ourselves the Ashenvale Crusade I think.
Nothing else really clicked as much as that though.
Also phase 2 and the pvp was a dogshit mess, lost me as soon as I hit cap.
It can't. You can take the player out of retail, but you can't take the retail out of the players. Even if they made a totally new revised Azeroth, you'd have people making mods and compiling data to begin optimization day 1. You'd have gearscore and parse benchmarks in raids in the 2nd or 3rd rotation.
Tanaris was by far one of the most adventurous place I went when I started the game (after the Barrens). Horde and Alliance doing same quests, occasional brawls and npcs attacking you at Gadgetzan because you accidentally right clicked an alliance… The first time I discovered Caverns of Time I was so amazed. I think back then you needed attunement with some dungeons if I remember correctly, so those dungeons were such a mystery to me
Me in 2024, playing WoW for the first time, just reached lvl 50, no online guides, only good vibes and a huge fascination for exploring the world. :)

I feel like they could have cut the phase durations in half and it would have been way better. People got their gear and disappeared because waiting 3 months between phases with exactly 1 raid and 2-3 dungeons was boooooring

I remember not knowing hunters could buy arrows from a vendor and once my first few stacks ran out i meleed my way to around level 16 before i found a vendor with arrows. Also not knowing how to tame pets coming from pokemon i would dps npc to 10% then cast tame pet lol thinking they could resist my tame.

It's crazy to think that we had no addons really for questing. You had to read quests and or ask chat, which a lot of people did and people were willing to help. I remember always seeing barrens chat with either chuck norris jokes or where was the orc wife.
back in 06 me and a mate swam down to tanaris as lvl 30s, didnt know where anything was, exploring was bis, and all new areas were so scary!
You need to make the discord notification sound in 2024 to mimic the one from MSN in 2006

Classic+ wasn't a bad first attempt, hopefully now that they see people will actually play it they will invest in it. They certainly aren't investing in retail anymore.

a friend I made in stv when farming my whirlwind axe first showed me tanaris. this was how I discovered zones back then, I was also stuck in darkshore for a long time until my brother took me all the way to Westfall. so I feel like the world of warcraft guidebook was a bit of a miss, people used each other for information

Even if WoW vanilla came out today, it wouldn’t be the same. Social media, free online game wikis and guides, optimization content. Adventure MMO games just aren’t played like they used to be, and that collectively kills the classic immersion experience for MMO’s. Besides, you can’t recreate the “brand new world” feeling with a world you already know intimately. The special parts of Vanilla that people missed usually surround the updates that optimized and streamlined gameplay to be “easier” and less convoluted. All together WoW was more challenging and therefore rewarding. Classic’s success should show Blizzard that they need to revisit their formula as they go into the World Soul saga. I haven’t given up on WoW, our game universe isn’t beyond repair.
