I remember watching this movie in theaters being cautiously optimistic. It came out 8 years after Batman and Robin, which was a meme at best. The franchise was all but dead before Nolan took the reins. The Dark Knight is great, but this movie brought Batman back in an amazing way. I was floored at how hard Nolan knocked it out of the park. I love this movie so much!
Don't come at me but I always thought micheal Caine was the best Alfred. I met him once when I was waterproofing a very expensive new build in Chelsea, London, he was so down to earth and said " don't mind me lads I'm just having a look around" it was the penthouse apartment and he bought it. Really nice bloke. Enjoyed the reaction guys and you have a new subscriber. Fondest regards.
In interviews and everything I've always thought he comes across as a really genuine and down-to-earth man! Incredible actor and his Alfred will always be my idea of Alfred Pennyworth!
I always kind of forget how good Batman Begins is, just because it tends to get overshadowed by The Dark Knight. It's funny, I remember when they first announced Heath Ledger was cast to play the Joker in The Dark Knight, tons of people were questioning the casting decision and thinking that the sequel was going to be a massive disappointment after such a great first movie. Boy, were people wrong about that!
I remember this too, he was seen as a bit of a romcom heartthrob actor - then he delivered one of the most famous portrayals of any character ever put to film!
Look forward to watchinh her reaction to the Dark Knight. The Batman trilogy is one of the best trilogies ever n it's no surprise really, they're Nolan's movies, what a genius
Thanks you two, I hadn't seen this a few years. Reminded me how amazing a reintroduction to the Batman character this was when it came out. Growing up in the 80s and 90s with that run of Batman (don't get me wrong, I still love me some Keaton Batman, and Nicholson's Joker!), but these films starting here just elevated the character from Saturday morning cartoon to serious, adult, superhero with the right amount of darkness and showmanship Batman would use for a guy who's super power is (in the immortal words of Affleck's Batman) "I'm rich". Cheers guys!
Still one of the best superhero movies! At 2:19 - I noticed the faucet and the slow trickle of water in the background and how the prison is very much like a (bat)cave...I think water in the bat cave is a recurring motif through all three of Nolan's Batman films. Water could represent the inspiration or the source of the Batman character. The slow trickle of water marks the early beginnings of the character. As you may know, Batman has been around since the late 1930's and through the decades he has gone through dozens of iterations. Each new Batman writer brings something different to the character. This is Christopher Nolan's version and he integrates aspects of previous iterations and weaves them all into a new whole. Towards the end of the movie, they have destroyed the mansion and plan to re-build it from the ground up and Alfred tells Bruce, "I thought this might be a good opportunity for improving the foundations." That could be Nolan's acknowledgment that he is taking the entirety of the Batman story and tearing it down and rebuilding it and starting over with a strong foundation.
A coworker of mine came up with an entertaining theory when this movie was new. If one assumes that Ra's al-Ghul and Qui Gon Jinn are the same person, and Batman was trained by Ra's, that means Batman is actually a Jedi!
Ra's al-Ghul is surrounded in mysticism and is supposedly immortal, Qui-Gon the first of the Jedi to return from the netherworld of the force... there are similarities here
Most interesting thing about this movie's production (to me at least) is that the real Tumbler vehicles (there were three made for this movie if I remember correctly) actually had the hydraulics to jump. I met someone who was on a team working on some of the stunt vehicles during production and they were gushing over that tidbit. You can look it up, it's really awesome.
This is such a good movie! I just recently watched it and it's one of the only DC films I'm a fan of! Imo this movie has good acting whereas other DC films can feel slightly cheesy. Another great trilogy I would really recommend is the Mazerunner's, they're my favorite movies of all time and I think you both would really enjoy them! (Unless of course you've already seen them)
Ahhh I lived for the maze runner books/movies as a teenager 😂 but I don’t think Danny has seen them. I’ll have to add it to our list. Thank you for the recommendation 💙
So a lot of people get confused by that line Ra's says about burning his how and leaving him for dead. This line illustrates the utter brilliance of Chris Nolan's mind. In the beginning during Bruce's introduction to the League of Shadows, Bruce and the audience are lead to believe this other person, played by the amazing Ken Watanabe, is Ra's Al Gul. During the confrontation when Bruce sets the house on fire, he does indeed leave the fake Ra's for dead. Because Liam is the real Ra's, he takes this personally. He feels like Bruce left him for dead because he left who he thought was the real Ra's for dead. It's such a subtle layer to see of Ra's personality. Brilliant.
@@CoyzyMovieNight Hello again! Answer the question if you don't mind. Will you be watching the original 1980 Shogun series? (for comparison with the 2024 series) I would also like to recommend to you (if you haven’t watched) two films: 1 - "How to Steal a Million" 1960 (US) 2 - Savages (Selvaggi) Italian. Both films are good relaxing comedies to watch with family or friends.
I highly recommend Batman: Mask of the Phantasm it's the greatest Batman movie of all time. Live action is great and all but animation blows it away. No live action Batman compares to Kevin Conroy. He's the one and only Batman.
Hmm. This is a mistake many does. You shouldn't sleep on the sequels. While we originally had to wait years, we rewatched the movies up to releases, they're meant to be watched back to back. Many reactions miss a ton of clues and references because they wait too long on watching the sequels.

One of the greatest ways to explain Batman’s gear was explained in this movie all Prototypes that were never put into production.
