Managed to see him perform in London on the evening of the album release - it was just incredible. The only concert I've ever experienced where the whole audience was silent throughout, absorbing every second of the performance. What an unbelievable artist 🤌
Sampha’s older brother used to read Jonathan Livingston Seagull to him when they were kids. Lahai is his middle name and his grandfather’s name. And, if he’s touring with Daniel Caesar, I need to go to that show - those are my leaders in the AOTY consideration so far. Both this and Never Enough are exceptional
Cant go back really brought a tear to my eye.. it made me look at myself and straighten some things in my mind. I appreciate this album more than words describe..
Painfully good album. Borderline discouraging in its level of perfection and thoughtfulness. Albums like this bring us closer together as people because they expose something within us that somehow shows us that we are all here, TOGETHER. An unexplainable quality lies within the tracks that gives the listener the feeling that they are not alone.
Just saw Sampha perform live. I’m still over the moon. It was truly a beautiful transcendent experience. Lahai is a treasure. Suspended and dancing circles are my favorite. 💗
I think this probably is AOTY. Not enough year left for anyone to compete 😅 and some ppl have come close already….I keep thinking of Caroline polachek’s “desire…” but this is another level of artistry
Such sincerity in the “11 year olds aren’t ready for that shit” 😂 as an American I def didn’t study that book in school but sounds perfect for me now in my 20s
I missed Sampha so much. It was becoming a running joke at some point that he was just never gonna come back, “Where’s Sampha??” I’d tweet every other month lol. So glad he’s back. This album was well worth the wait
Favorites as of now gotta be the intro, tenderness, Johnathan L Seagull but this album is incredible, not as perfect as I think process was, but it’s definitely top few aoty
Had the pleasure to see him in Brooklyn this year, and actually got to speak with him after the show! Seeing him again in Nov for this album. Would love to hear Jonathan L Seagull live 🙏🏽
was hoping you did this one Jon! thanks so much for taking the time to do it despite it not being as mainstream as some other albums to react to. really wonderful record. also lahai is sampha's middle name and the first name of his grandad. the albums got a lot of themes of intergenerational/spiritual connection, moving forward and time travel. cant go back is a great example. he recently had a daughter of his own and in interviews has said that makes him more aware of the future in context of what came before.
The inclusion of the bits about the book isn't really to do with the book itself; it was about the fact that his brother read it to him when he was younger and the memory of that, and what that means.
Treasure by Sampha on the beautiful boy soundtrack is so emotional for me and I haven’t even watched the movie. It already makes me cry so I’m so scared to watch the movie.
The new Scorsese film is unreal by the way if you haven’t seen it yet. De Niro, Scorsese and even DiCaprio some of their best ever work but the actress who plays DiCaprios wife in it steals the show. 10/10 film
I've been a fan of Sampha since 2011 when he collaborated with SBTRKT. If you haven't heard the songs he did on the self titled SBTRKT album, you should check them out.
*The irony is I just looked up your reaction to this album yesterday and nothing was uploaded and now boom, it’s here. “Suspended” is easily my favorite song on the album.*
jon i'd love to see you react to the ghost~pop tape if you haven't heard it yet, it's the biggest release jpegmafia made before he went by that name, under devon hendryx, he just released a remaster and the original on streaming, full of ambient pop and experimental beats that kind of led him to where he is now
Sadly I feel like I’m not mature enough to fully enjoy this album lol. I can hear the quality in it but I can’t quite connect. Gonna give it a few more spins
It’s crazy how many times I see reaction channels saying “musical perfection” when listening to this album - cuz it is!!!! I keep saying “thank you Sampha for making us wait” 😅
Sad short story. I bought the vinyl Deluxe edition with clear vinyl and 2 bonus tracks. I even waited over the 20 october for my Copy to arrive and have the First listening on vinyl. Sadly It is One of the most horrible pressings i've ever bought. Ugly scratchy noises.
I'm still not sure about this album, it's definitely good. Cool production and nice chord progressions and what not, but nothing really stuck with me after it was over. Felt kinda samey and there weren't really any peaks and valleys in the sequencing. Will have to listen to it more I guess
@kaitom6888 so far my favorite this year is the caroline polachek album (desire, I want to turn into you)...favorite album of the past few years is probably Dijon's Absolutely
Johnathan L. Seagull has been on repeat since it came out, I also especially love the theme of birds in this album too!
Fking love it
this whole album is masterful, but Dancing Circles just does something different to me for real
the beatdrop and sampha's falsetto on Jonathan L.Seagull are just amazing !!!
I definitely cried and got no shame in that. Might be the most beautiful song to release this year
There’s something strangely reassuring and beautiful that other people hear the exact same moment that moved me so much. Cheers.
'LAHAI' Is his grandfather's name and his middle name, I think he dedicated his album to him but also to his heritage/connection with music
'Suspended' is one of the tracks of the year
Fucking love that song
Johnathan L seagull I think is a bit better but both are my favorites this year.
@@pablomablo1012jls my favorite song too
I was just listening to it RN😂
I think Spirit 2.0 is one of the best of the year - but there’s a lot of great picks from this album
Managed to see him perform in London on the evening of the album release - it was just incredible. The only concert I've ever experienced where the whole audience was silent throughout, absorbing every second of the performance. What an unbelievable artist 🤌
Damn I wish i got to go to that show 😭 it was sold out by the time I saw they were on sale, glad you enjoyed!
I hope the show in Toronto is like that tbh
big up banquet records
me too man it was incredible
At this stage I feel like we have to put Sampha right on that same pedestal that Frank Ocean stands on.
The dude is an infinitely talented artist.
He’s better imo
Calico by Ryan beatty should've been in that convo
This is genuinely one of my favourite albums not just of the year, or the last few years, but of all time.
That’s the MOST incredible duo wooooow 😅 their voices alone!!

Suspended has to be one of the greatest songs I've ever heard in MY LIFE. It feels like any second, I can just float off into space.
If it takes him another 7 years to drop a quality record like this, then so be it
Cant go back really brought a tear to my eye.. it made me look at myself and straighten some things in my mind. I appreciate this album more than words describe..
This album And the two Cleo Sol albums Are just healing musical perfection
This album is so good it one of the best albums of this year it’s my favorite I been listening to this album a lot since it been out
Why did everything everywhere all at once catch a stray lmao I love that movie
😂 Same
I went to the comments for this specifically 😂@lastshanty

This album was really something, immediately fell in love with Dancing Circles and Suspended. I’m gutted that I didn’t get to see his London shows
Absolutely beautiful album
Spirit 2.0 was life changing for me.
Hypnotise made my soul vibrate. It's hipnotizing
Its so hard to choose a favorite song off this album cuz they’re all 10s but
Dancing Circles
Can’t Go Back
Jonathan L Seagull are the ones fr
Totally! And I would also add Suspended to this list. What an amazing record
Yes yes and Only, along with Rose Tint & What If You Hypnotise Me?
…yeah, just all of ‘em.
Amazing album, nobodys voice can help me calm down like Sampha's
Had this album on repeat for the last 2 months
I've been stuck on this album the past few weeks.... beautiful music
Listen to rexx life raj, california poppy 3 and thnk me later
@@pedroqueba5337 aih my guy! I'll let you know
I think this probably is AOTY. Not enough year left for anyone to compete 😅 and some ppl have come close already….I keep thinking of Caroline polachek’s “desire…” but this is another level of artistry
I still listen to Process since the first day it came out. This is gonna be in my rotation for another few years.
this album came out the same day i had a plane flight to Iceland (from the UK). shit almost made me ascend
Such sincerity in the “11 year olds aren’t ready for that shit” 😂 as an American I def didn’t study that book in school but sounds perfect for me now in my 20s
This is a top 5 album for me this year. Gotta leave space for the danny and peggy albums.
I missed Sampha so much. It was becoming a running joke at some point that he was just never gonna come back, “Where’s Sampha??” I’d tweet every other month lol. So glad he’s back. This album was well worth the wait
spiderman 2 game also came out October 20th which is absolutely amazing. good day for people like me fr fr

Now why is Everything everywhere catching a stray 😭
Dancing Circles, cant stop listening to it
Sampha is one of the greatest albums of all time. This album is absolutely beautiful, so meticulously well crafted. Album of the year for sure
This transcends music its art. Each song so meticulous crafted and pulls heart strings
Music is already art
Might be my fave album of the year
potential album of the year right here
Had the pleasure to see him in Brooklyn this year, and actually got to speak with him after the show!
Seeing him again in Nov for this album. Would love to hear Jonathan L Seagull live 🙏🏽
Album of the freaking year
Lahai is Sampha's middle name and the name of his grandfather
You are STANNING hard for Sampha and this album and I love it!

Treasure by Sampha on the beautiful boy soundtrack is so emotional for me and I haven’t even watched the movie. It already makes me cry so I’m so scared to watch the movie.
'dancing circles' is UNREAL brothaaaa
What if you can hypnotize me might be my song of the year
The new Scorsese film is unreal by the way if you haven’t seen it yet. De Niro, Scorsese and even DiCaprio some of their best ever work but the actress who plays DiCaprios wife in it steals the show. 10/10 film
Bro you can’t just say Everything Everywhere was an overrated movie and not elaborate. Masterpiece of a film
I've been a fan of Sampha since 2011 when he collaborated with SBTRKT. If you haven't heard the songs he did on the self titled SBTRKT album, you should check them out.
THIS ALBUM IS BEAUTIFUL❤

thank U for giving this artist his due. this dude is next up for all of us, and that's why i follow U 🍭
Love Jonathan Seagull.
you had me until you called Everything Everywhere All At Once overrated lmaoo
This production reminds me a lot of Frederic Robinson, really great!
lahai is samphas middle name btw

Dancing circles is the best song of the year

Him and James Blake should make a song
Suspended & What If You Hypnotize Me ❤

First Illuminati meeting in France
His talent is borderline cheating. People would kill for his voice alone but his production is somehow also out of this world
👍
11:35 preach Jon. That movie was so bang average I don’t know how it won so many Oscars.
@johndenton bro you gotta react to a great chaos- Ken Carson
